Days Gone is undoubtedly a looker, but on a console with titles like God of War and Horizon: Zero Dawn, it’s perhaps not the prettiest product in the pipeline. Of course, there’s much more going on behind-the-scenes in Sony Bend’s open world apocalypse, and speaking as part of Game Informer’s month-long coverage, creative director John Garvin has revealed that the title is pushing the PlayStation 4 hard.
“We’re definitely pushing the PS4 to its limits,” he said. “What we really want to do is create something that is best in class for the kind of game that we’re making, that’s super important to us.” The key technical challenge appears to be the release's emergent world, which means that virtually anything can happen at any time. This means that you could get mobbed by hordes of Freakers – or caught out in the wilderness without gas. It’s all down to the systems to decide.
To be fair, it’s also a handsome game. Even in its alpha state, the release really has its moments, and we’re sure that the developer will be polishing the product up immensely before its ready early next year. Are you impressed by what you’ve seen of Days Gone thus far? Do you believe it’s genuinely pushing the PS4 – or is that all marketing chatter? Dis game looks coo-coo-bananas, from a technical and gameplay standpoint!
I'm particularly interested in the moral decisions, which I didn't know about until watching the Game Informer first-hour preview, and the focus on the human-side of a zombie-like outbreak. To me, that's what made TWD best in creating a zombie setting (compared to all other zombie games)...those tough decisions of who lives and who dies among the survivors!
I had a dream last night about what this game would play like. I'll bet by the time it comes out, everything I dreamed will be wrong.
Reports of the preview builds not running well probably lends credence to maxxing the PS4 out.
Then again this studio made Bubsy 3D so...going back to their console roots?
Well the game is still pre alpha so it's to be expected if there's technical issues since the game won't be out till next year.
its looking pretty good (for alpha footage) i think, they do definitely need to do a bit of work on the freaker movements and their 'attacks' going off that latest vid where they all take turns at taking out that horde
Curious about the alpha footage were they playing on a Pro or a regular console. I'm really excited for the giant horde moments and how the PS4 is going to handle that.
Its looks great cant wait fort this game.word up son
@smelly_jr I wish Sony Bend nothing but the best, Days Gone will be the closest we'll ever get to a true Walking Dead 3rd person open world game.
@DLB3 yeah the 2 guys talking to each other, the bald (sorry dont know his name) listening to the tall guy, the game's a looker compared to what game informer are showing us.
Next year is definitely the end of the ps4's life cycle. Expect a new console to be revealed mid-late next year.
I get the feeling they're over selling this - with all the videos, news, interviews - not usually an encouraging sign.
It sure doesn't look like it, but if they say so...
What an awesome time to be a gamer. I remember when Sonic the Hedgehog was the fastest/best looking game and Playstation was just a twinkle in Sony's eyes.
pushing the PS4 to its limits <> best looking game
I'm pretty sure when they say they are pushing the PS4 to its limits they are talking about all of those zombies on screen at once chasing you around, not how great it looks. They'd be stupid to say best looking game w/ GoW and HZD on the console. But pushing it to it's limits, well that just means as many zombies as possible.
Let's put it this way, the fog in Fallout 4 DLC pushed the system to it's limits. The fog. So why wouldn't a horde of zombies?

@Gamer619 thanks for the heads up , honestly didn't notice it .
What worries me is the fact that there's seems to be a pattern, I don't know, some kind of an echo between this game and LoU2. Two Post-apocalyptic-zombies games. It's strange, really.
This game looks excellent
I bet, tracking that many enemies won't be easy.
