With the likes of Fortnite exploding all around the world, the release of H1Z1: Battle Royale was always going to attract a decent pool of players on the PlayStation 4 – but a whopping 1.5 million gamers logging in within its first 24 hours is a figure worth paying attention to. Earlier in the week, it registered an eye-watering 200,000 concurrents, too.
These are pretty impressive figures for an open beta, and while this author hasn’t had chance to check it out yet, the word is that the title’s in decent shape. Have you had a go on H1Z1: Battle Royale yet? Are you impressed by what you’ve played? Have these numbers surprised you? Be the last man standing in the comments section below.

oooohh okay im gunna check it out after work tonight, i do like the appeal of a good battle royal (cant wait to see what red dead is going to do) but cant stand fortnite
Without PUGB on PS4, this looks like it could be a much better alternative to Fortinte for players looking for something more realistic. And plus there's the vehicles.
Seen this for a while on Steam, but I never tried it because I always associated it with the developer's first game called "H1Z1: Just Survive"...horrible looking survival game. This actually looks pretty good...I may give it a shot!
I guess its a good alternate for PUBG on the ps4, especially if Fortnite doesn’t appeal
I couldn’t even get the game to load up, it wouldn’t connect to the servers.
I might check this out at some point.
PUBG have really dropped the ball by going with Xbox first, they gave Fortnite a bigger range of players to reach first, now H1Z1 has brought the more semi realistic version of the genre first. Plus with Battlefield and CoD getting BR modes as well it all gradually takes money off the table they could have had.
I think they did a very smart job releasing this game. They took out a lot of things from the PC version and made it run pretty smoothly on the console (though there are still glitches). Hopefully the game can maintain the momentum and garner enough support, because I'm sure the developers will look to add features of PC back into console version slowly, and improve that draw distance (fog) most people are complaining about.
@adf86 Yea it was a huge mistake on their part, not to mention they released it on a horrific almost unplayable state as well. Personally I think PUBG despite still being hugely popular is going to die a slow death.
Ive only been able to get into one game. Was i impressed...... No of course not lol. One of the ugliest games ive laid eyes on in the past 10 years lol
But its fun. Id play it. Though i always thought there were zombies in h1z1?!?!? What gives?
I did download the beta and have had a go at a few rounds, as far as battle Royale games go it checks all the boxes and I find it to be alot more polished than PUBG is on Xbox One. I will continue playing it this weekend, the question is whether this game will be supported in the future as well as both PUBG and Fortnite are.
I'm pretty much burned out on this genre at this point.
Makes you wonder what the hell pubg are upto!
PUBG is really going to go down as one of those games that changed the industry for a while but then couldn't compete.
It's fun but the servers need some work. Logging in during busy times requires some luck and patience. And I tried to team up with a friend yesterday but there were all sorts of problems trying to do that. We did manage one match which was entertaining but had to give up after that.
It's pretty rough around the edges but once they've fixed a few problems and refined it a bit, I'd say it definitely has potential. I prefer the driving in this to the building in Fortnite.
Graphically, Fallout 4 looks like Horizon compared to this.
PUBG need to strike while the iron is hot here. If they don't get the PS4 version out soon, their potential user base is going to get dragged off in various different directions. Not that they're bothered, they've probably made a fortune already
The game is solid some issues with loading but it plays well. The battle royale market is big right now there is plenty of space for all the current titles and future ones. PUBG is a much more polished title than H1Z1 with more maps. I do not think they dropped the ball by going to Microsoft first.
The game plays good and graphics aren't that bad. But I have two problems with the game which might become too annoying after a while.
First, the variety in weapons is Sh!t.
Second, the map is too open. It needs more buildings and other types of designs.
With these mentioned, still find it a better game than Fortnite
Played one round, deleted it.
Meh, an open beta in an extremely popular genre was always going to get this kind of traction. Personally, doesn't hold a candle to either Fortnite or PUBG. It's their jankier, more accident-prone cousin
Boy is that PUBG saltiness ever-present here lol
i tried it, and thought it was utterly awful.
H1Z1 is a terrible BR game, its easy to make to top 10, but you will not survive to the top 5 if you don't have a vehicle's to relay on...
