Earlier this week, the Xbox One box art for No Man's Sky gave us a huge clue that the NEXT update might include multiplayer. After appearing on Microsoft's Inside Xbox show, Sean Murray has confirmed that multiplayer is indeed heading to the procedurally generated universe when the update arrives on 24th July.
Murray describes No Man's Sky's multiplayer experience as "fun, funny, emergent, and kind of intense". You'll be able to group up with your friends and explore the galaxy together, but you can also bump into strangers along the way. The multiplayer will incorporate with all the aspects of No Man's Sky's gameplay, so survival, base building, racing land vehicles, and engaging in space combat will all be playable together. Also, as the universe is shared, any bases you build can be visited by other players. By the sound of it, you'll be able to attack as well as co-operate, if that's your thing.
It sounds like another meaty update for the game, but will players who have had their fill of No Man's Sky go back for multiplayer? Will you be testing out this new offering in July? Play nice together in the comments below.

VR would’ve got me playing again.
Been on my hard drive since day one, barely played it since the last update but that will change in july will definitely putting some time into the multiplayer
I think I am going to buy this now with the update it's got and what it's adding I think it's worth my money. I mean sure they could have been working on a new game by now instead of adding stuff which should have been in the game from launch. But I have to seriously give them credit for supporting the game I mean 3D Project Red still support The Witcher 3 and yeah totally different game and it was a better title but I think they should be forgiving now what happened has happened
Oh my goodness, they let Sean Murray speak again?
Seriously though, I do admire the support and I think bringing it to xbox will hopefully give them the funds to keep investing into the game. I am quite tempted as something to play with friends.
YES YES FINALLY!!!!!!!!
Wow, it’s actually Sean Murray. He was allowed outside. 😂
They should call this the "Better together" edition. 😆
@Quintumply @get2sammyb I never played NMS on it's initial release, and I know all too well about the tale of it's botched execution, but I gotta admit that this has piqued my interest in it again. Is it possible this game could have a great second life on PS4 AND Xbox now?
@Turismo4GT I think, for some players, this will breathe new life into the game, but at the same time, this will have come too late for most people. A lot of people were expecting this level of multiplayer to be in NMS from the very beginning. It'll be interesting to see how multiplayer affects the game; I'll be giving it a try
"Murray describes No Man's Sky's multiplayer experience as "fun, funny, emergent, and kind of intense""
English translation: you might be able to see your friend's floating name tag on your planet, in a different timezone, every first Tuesday of the month.
Hopefully VR is still a possibility since it wouldn't be mentioned on a xbox show.
Hmm.. might revisit the game again. It was visually appealing. Maybe I'll build a base this time. Couch co-op would be nice.
I’ve been playing it more and more with each big update ever since launch. “Multiplayer”, however, is the associative word that usually makes me never start a game or also stop playing it altogether.
That's the update???? Multiplayer? LMAO
I love the game still playing but I agree VR would’ve been awesome!!!
Only took them almost two years...
I've enjoyed No Man's Sky - didn't go into super hyped that's probably the reason why - looking forward to the NEXT update I still dabble in it when I have a spare hour and I just wanna wander around
Awesome. I just bought the game because of the good critics around the past updates and because of the upcoming one.
Alright so while the wildlife is quite bland, the exploration part of the game is quite fun.
Let’s see what else they will bring
@Quintumply Will the multiplayer be cross-platform?
I still want to jump back into the game. Haven't played it since release many years ago.
@DiddyWahDiddy I don't think so. If memory serves, each platform has a different universe.
Hipsters. I loved this from the beginning.
Glad everyone is for the most part positive on this. The game was far from perfect and deserved critique, but it didn't deserve the toxic backlash after release. Angry internet trolls forgot hello games is a small indie studio.
Games like destiny and sea of thieves have huge budgets and don't deliver.
I know this game was a little disappointing at launch but it has come a long way with all the updates. If you were interested in the game but were put off when it launched I suggest you get it once NEXT launches in July. Especially at the dropped price. It's actually a really fun game.
Turns out he's talking crap again and you can't play multiplayer at all
I’m willing to dip back in again, haven’t played it since launch but I like the idea of encounter other players along the way, I believe there are rumours that cities might be added to the game too? That would definitely get me back in
It would have been so easy for Hello Games to take the money and run, but like others have said, they deserve immense credit for sticking with this game.
Hopefully it'll be more than just Multiplayer. It will take more than co-op to get me to return to the game after I finished the story.
@tameshiyaku Frankly no one came out of that sorry episode with credit, the media for over hyping it at every opportunity. Sean Murray for not been more clearer when questioned and certain consumers for their toxic behaviour towards the developers (not helped by certain YouTubers as well) even before the game came out, they got threats for daring to delay the thing in the first place. Like I say it was a sorry episode.
meh
They probably just of just delayed the game and released it with everything they have added since launch. Would of prevented alot of hating on their game. But, where would the fun of been in that!
I appreciate what's coming here but
a) got a plat on release and had enough of the game, even though i liked it, even when everything was broken
b) Sean Murray oozes rubbish out of his mouth hole, I don't believe a single letter he says until I've seen it for myself
@Scollurio Language please
