Days Gone is revving up its engine ahead of a 22nd February release. Sony confirmed the date as part of its pre-E3 2018 countdown show minutes ago, alongside a new trailer which showcases a ton of new footage – including some terrifying infected animals.

This is a pretty good trailer. Very moody.
While I'll agree its a crowded scene, this is convincing me that there is enough originality to give it a go. I like the look of the world. Reminds me of Stakeland (movie), and the trailer looked pretty grounded.
Awwwwww yissssss!
Can't wait!
As I say in every Days Gone thread, how many open world zombie games are on PS4?
There are no where near as many as people claim.
Didn't expect that, but it's good to know.
@get2sammyb
There are plenty of post-apocalyptic games though. I still would've preferred Syphon Filter. Dark Mirror and Logan's Shadow were awesome and that story needs to be continued. In the meantime, I'll get Days Gone because Sony Bend makes good games. I just hope this one doesn't bury them though. Whether the claim that there are 'too many zombie games' is true or not, it could have an adverse impact on sales.
@get2sammyb Agreed, & I never get people’s comparisons to TLOU2 either. They seem completely different to me.
@get2sammyb It's interesting how no one brought up zombie fatigue for State of Decay 2.
@Enuo
We were all too busy playing God of War.
@Enuo Because who the hell paid attention to that game?
@Enuo That's because even less people care about State of Decay than Days Gone.
When I clicked the live stream the Youtube app asked if I wanted to "proceed" due to "mature content" so that was a give away lol
Was hoping for either Dreams or Concrete Genie but Days Gone should be at least a really solid game. And it's release date been given now makes me convinced this game was going to be done by November/December so Sony have have shifted it back to 2019. I just hope Sony aren't going back to announcing their release dates too early again though.
To be fair Sammy, they aren't zombies. They are Freakers. Totally different.
It's NOT a zombie game, the developers say, begging us to buy it.
The fact is, this is also a PlayStation website, not an Xbox website. Why talk about an Xbox exclusive when God of War and Yakuza 6 were out and the hype was building for Detroit? That'd be like going on an Xbox website and expecting talk of Days Gone or The Last of Us Part II.
like i said in the stream if there are no other games out that month i want then i'll give this a go
That's a good release date
@get2sammyb I think there's only one, dying light.
Good date for this game I believe! I'm excited to be honest
Trailer was epic!
@get2sammyb To be honest, this could be the only zombie game on PS4, and I'd still be tired of them as a concept. That's the only reason why I haven't followed this game too much. I've been zombie fatigued before the PS4 was a thing.
At the risk of sounding contradictory, this does look interesting enough, so maybe I'll give it a go in spite of that fatigue.
Yayaya.. February 22, 2019.. Horizon Zero Dawn released on February 28, 2017.. The Last of Us 2 release in October 2019 : possible likely
Great trailer! This is another game I'm really hyped for but 2019 is a good while yet and I still have other games to be getting on with
@Kidfried This leads me to believe that the game is pretty much done, they just want to give it some breathing room and use it to establish another stellar (and possibly the last) major release calendar for the PS4 next year.
I wish/hope this turns out a good game, love the setting, mood etc... but I'm not feeling it. I've seen a couple of gameplay videos and that didn't help either.
@DerMeister I'm pretty much going to agree with this. It's not that the PS4 has a load of zombie (Freakers before the devs get angry again!) games, but we are coming off of the back of God knows how many Dead Rising games, CoD shoving zombies at us, State of Decay, Dead Island, countless zombie movies...
Its easy to oversaturate with a concept, but you need to remember Sammy that people dont just play on PS4, nor did they just start gaming on PS4. Many have been playing for years on many different machines and there are a lot of zombie games, not to mention wider mass media exposure.
As it was always going to be: day(s) (g)one purchase!!! 😎
@Kidfried Developers should be aware of the gaming world as they make a game. That was what Lawbreakers and Battleborn failed to do. It's what the Wii U failed to do.
As for the name calling, why would I be old and bitter? I'm simply addressing the very blunt oversaturation of zombie media for the past decade. That's not factually wrong is it? Last I checked it was pretty rampant.
As for the old and bitter comment, I'm 22. Not old, not bitter, just cynical and pessimistic about everything due to mental illnesses. But it also means I never have high hopes to disappoint. Double edged sword
@jacobia Nice!
this is the only sony 1st party game, other than knack, that could potentially bomb. even driveclub managed to pull itself out of the abyss and turn out to be a pretty solid game. i just don't see days gone meeting expectations after all the greatness that has come before it. as a launch game it would have sufficed, though.
I think most of us figured that it was an early 2018 title when they confirmed the delay, but it good to know that it's now confirmed. I'm looking forward to it. This game seems like perfect comfort food material.
Days Gone? For me it should be called Day One!!! laughs and applauses
Edit: too late...
Looks incredibly bland.
It was telling when a TLoU Part II trailer was shown off and tons of people couldn't figure out which game it was supposed to be advertising.
@Knuckles-Fajita I don't see this zombie games fatigue, if this game is good I'm sure it will sells a lot to casuals, it's basically son of anarchy + the walking dead the game. The game reception in youtube is really positive with high views (in sony and game informer channel) and likes.
@Ralizah No, people know what game sony is showing, if the protagonist is deacon, it's days gone, if the protagonist ellie and joel, it's the last of us.
@Ralizah That was on purpose. The ''clicker reveal'' at the end was supposed to be a surprise. That's like saying Mario Odyssey is bland because nobody could figure out that the T-rex was a Mario game
@wiiware Entirely possible. People have tolerances that differ for different media. For instance I love science fiction but I know people get sick of really quickly. Just like eating the same food over and over.
@Kidfried It's chill. Its one of the few things im sensitive about. But as I said, pessimism leads to less disappointment!
Just from memory on the zombie games front we had several Dead Island games, all 3 I think are on PS4 now, 4 Dead Rising titles (Maybe 5 I cant recall if there was a spinoff), Resident Evil, Days Gone, TLOU, Call of Duty since...4? and Zombi U. It's quite a common theme.
Probably because zombies are a very easy enemy to make.
@Octane The T-Rex was obvious misdirection, and only lasted a few seconds. If the the entire game looked like a Jurassic Park adaptation, and the market had been saturated with dinosaur games for years, you might have a point.
They have to pull in one of the central monsters from TLOU Part II for us to even recognize what the game is. Gameplay-wise, it'll likely feel like a Naughty Dog game, but visually, it's yet another realistic-looking zombie game. No visual uniqueness to it at all. Same applies to Days Gone as well.
I’m glad this isn’t coming out this year, I’ve yet to buy a Pro but I’m definitely getting one sometime this summer and even though I’ll only be playing exclusives on it there’s plenty to get through with the likes of GoW, Uncharted 4, HDZ, Detroit etc and now this.
Forget comparing this to State of Decay 2, that’s like an indie title compared to Days Gone which is like a blockbuster title. I can see Days Gone being compared to World War Z the game though with both having similar hoards.
Just have to wait for amazon to open up the preorders on this again.
I've never been interesting in this game until this trailer. Now I'm kinda hyped !
Sony will be proven right to hold this back until 2019. I think it'll do very well for itself in the new year — launching near the end of 2018 is not a good idea, it's already ridiculously packed.
I hope there is an easy mode, lol.
@Knuckles-Fajita Science fiction and horror are cool
To be fair to developer (sony bend), freaker is not zombie, they need to eat, sleep and the horde in this game migrate to other place, so it's not like cannon fodder zombie like in other games. I don't know if sony bend can do it, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
@Cornaboyzzz I dismissed this game up until recently too! It just seems so derivative and uninteresting at face value, but when you look closer...the execution is top-notch, and the story seems really engaging!
@smelly_jr Same here ! I'm not really into the zombie thing, but this trailer shows different sides that I didn't see before, and it looks way more interesting now !
@PS_Nation They confirmed no difficulty settings!
Days Gone: The Ballad of Chad Strengthface.
I dunno man, I just can't get hyped for this. It looks like a fine game and all, but I just cannot muster any enthusiasm for it. Maybe it's the biker aspect or something.
@get2sammyb With this announcement being for Days Gone and Sony not doing a pre-show, do you think we should expect Dreams and Concrete Genie getting release dates during the press conference?
Game it's looking good with a perfect release date
@get2sammyb @ShogunRok
Since you guys work here, does this release date give you any thoughts on the other games Sony still needs to date? I doubt they'll release TLoU2 in Feb or even March now. I know they aren't that similar, but too similar for a month apart release dates I think.
Of course my first thought when reading this date was " PS5 launch announcement reveal Feb 23rd" b/c I get the feeling Sony is sick of this game, it's like their new No Man's Sky albatross around their neck. They just had GoW, and TLoU2 coming, they really dont' need this as a tent pole game.
So anyway, Spidey is Sept 7, leaving dates for Ghosts, TLoU2, Death Stranding and Dreams, which isn't one of the E3 4 but it still needs a date in the upcoming near future.
Spidey Sept
Dreams holiday
TLoU2 no idea now, would have said Feb/Mar like Horizon and GoW
Ghosts Sept 2019
Death Stranding 2021 on PS5 (no confidence)
Of course I'm still thinking PS5 announced in March launched in Nov 2019 or March 2020 so that all of my calendar planning revolves around that, and now this date.
And while I am looking forward to it, Concrete Genie can release whenever it wants, it's kind of it's own thing.
@rjejr Not really. I think Ghost of Tsushima's probably closer to completion than The Last of Us and Death Stranding, but other than that, I don't really know when to expect any of them.
I've got PJ & Duncan, Geoff and Donna Air in my head now.
Watched the stream just to see Meredith ❤
I hope this is wheelie good. Ahahaha.. ahem.
February seems a good release date. I like all the wild animals in there, pretty cool.
It keeps looking very bland to me. Also graphics look subpar from recent AAA Sony games.
Zero dot zero hype for this game, personally
@rjejr I'm thinking Ghost in the March/April slot. Maybe even May. TLOU2 as a September release, just like the original (and Spider-Man). Not sure where Death Stranding fits, but I think it's possible that it's coming next year. Kojami has been working on it for a while.
Not really been excited by this, but that trailer was pretty good.. and thinking about how much I enjoyed the more open areas in Evil Within 2, plus motorbikes.. yeah it could be good afterall.
Previous trailers of days gone i wasn’t interested until I seen the freakers chasing a bear and John running for his life. But knowing that you have to worry about people and freakers and now you add wild life also. I’m sold knowing that there will be danger anywhere you go. Day one purchase will be pre ordering this weekend
Those zombie crowa have me excited. I guess "a murder of crows" will actually live up to it's name lol
@DLB3 I thought it was July or August, so I went with August, turns out it's a completely different month, hah! Maybe I'm thinking of the remaster. August/September would fit TLOU I think.
And yeah, April is a safe guess since Days Gone is late February. Gives them a bit of time to settle in before the next one comes out.
Yes.cant wait.word up son.
i thought the trailer showed a lot of potential.. the dynamic weather, and game play scenarios that emerge from it, could make it more than just another 'zombie game'.. not that i've played that many of them, so i'm not fatigued out.
as for how it might factor into other release dates: i'd say maybe may 2019 for ghost of tsushima, and mid-late august for TLoU2. as for death stranding.. it'll be ready when kojima says its ready.
if this is the final push for PS4 software, kinda leaves me wondering if they'll have anything to show at E3 next year though, since i don't expect PS5 til 2020 at the earliest, and i don't think they'll reveal it a year in advance.
aaayyyyyyy thats my birthday!!!!!!
@Octane "I'm thinking Ghost in the March/April slot"
You and Sammy must be drinking the same Kool Aid. If Ghosts is in March that's still only a week or so after Days Gone. My money's on Ghosts crushing it. Plus if we know TLoU2 in Sept, double whammy. Also makes it hard to announce a PS5 in March if Ghosts is in March. I suppose April works though, I'll just go w/ April for Ghosts.
And since @DLB3 also said Ghosts in April, April it is.
TLoU2 in Sept makes sense, works with PS5 in Nov., it will be the last big PS4 title. (Sorry Kojima, still no faith in you).
@get2sammyb "Ghost of Tsushima's probably closer to completion"
Based off of what, one CG trailer and a screenshot? Unless I missed something. We've already seen literally HOURS of Days Gone game play footage and it isn't out until next Feb. And they've been promoting Dreams for 5 years now since the launch announcement, still no date. But you think Ghosts is out soon? You must have some serious insider info you aren't sharing w/ us. You aren't in the process of reviewing it already are you?
Sorry if that comes across harsh, just surprised you see it that way is all.
OK, so if we all agree April for Ghosts, do we get that date at E3 or do we get "2019" at E3 and April at another show or in December at TGA?
Sorry about the calendar obsession, I usually save it for NL but Ninteod has nothing to date besides Pokemon and SSB, and Pokemon is already dated. Yoshi maybe. Maybe. sigh
@DLB3 "Dreams alot, when do you think that will release?"
September 2017, but I don't think that guess is going to work out.
My main thoughts on Dreams now is will it be a traditional $60 game or a PS+ thing or a PSVR priced $40. Will they bundle it w/ PSVR, or w/ a camera and Move? Will it even work w/ Move? Thats' how it was showed off originally at the PS4 announcement, a sculpting game where you sculpted your dreams w/ Move controllers. How easy will it be to share online? Will we need PS+ just to share creations if there is no actual online mutliplayer in game? Can we simply download and upload to a website? LBP scratched the surface w/ a lot of that, but I'm expecting more w/ Dreams.
And if you think that's nuts, ask me about SSB. I'm telling my kids SSB is releasing in Sept w/ only 12 playable characters and the rest will release over time w/ a season pass. Or over time for free then more DLC next year. It's SSB, anything is possible after SSBU. Splatoon 2 is getting a $20 single player DLC. I'm expecting SSB to get something similar. Gaming just can't be simple anymore. Have you seen that Tomb Raider 3 release schedule, I have actual nightmares about it.
And the game options are no picnic either.
I can feel the blood dripping out of my eyes.
@rjejr Sucker Punch has an engine, is pretty efficient, and has been working on Ghost for a while. We’ll see next week, but my guess is it’s further along than people think.
Can’t really compare to Bend ( first console game in eons) and Media Molecule (most bonkers project ever).
@rjejr Shawn Layden talked about (and maybe @get2sammyb remembers the quote) that they specifically waited to reveal Ghost of Tsushima, suggesting that it's closer to completion than we think. And a late 2017 reveal, early 2019 release is still quite a bit of time, so I definitely think that it could be on track for an early 2019 release date.
And I don't think they're announcing the PS5 next year. It's coming in 2020 at the earliest, and the announcement will be in 2020 too.
@Enuo low budget open world zombie game
@Gamer83 why did you come in here?
@Knuckles-Fajita they not begging anyone to buy it sweetie
@AFCC oh really? I'm surprised you are
@Undead21
Because it's a game I have pre-ordered from a developer that I like.
@DLB3 "Tomb Raider release schedule"
To me it's not so much the confusion as it's a single player game w/ 7 monthly DLC packs. SEVEN. For a single player story driven game. Make it 2 or 3 like Spiderman a few months apart, 7 monthly DLC packs says serial game to me. It should be a free game to start and then charge $10 per DLC, pay $60 for all 7. But this ins't an online fighting game that constantly needs more levels, characters and weapons, it's a single player story driven game. I don't see why anybody would buy it before the "Complete" game goes on sale 1 year later for $60. We waited a full year for the other one while Xbox got it first. Then we got it complete.
I know that's the way the industry is going, doesn't mean I have to like it.
@DLB3 We'll we agreed on something, so I'll stop there.
@Octane I'm starting to come around to PS5 in 2020. But early 2020. I think Nintneod showed w/ Switch the math works, sell in March to get all of the early adopters who will buy it whenever you release it, then replenish stock in time for the holidays. Also gives you time to have 1 big game at launch - see Zelda - and 1 for the holidays - see Mario.
But, they'll still need to announce it at or before E3 2019, b/c what else will they have to show at E 2019? Even if the PS5 is late 2020, say Nov, by E3 2019 most PS4 games will be out and most development will have moved to PS5. Will the whole show just be Death Stranding again?
So I'm weak, I blinked, PS5 in 2020, Feb or March - Japan got PS4 in Feb - but they'll show it at or before E3 2019, they'll have to. Even Dreams might be out by then.
@Undead21 Why wouldn't I be, mate?
@Gamer83 you are whining
@AFCC cause you mind if complained about it which I thought you were going to be excited till febuary
Trailer got me hyped yet again. Hopefully no delays for this game.
