We're already half-way through 2018 - how did that happen? More pertinently, how come June plays host to a surprising number of notable game releases? It might not be a patch on May's busy release schedule, but for a traditionally slow month (and one dominated by E3 news) there's a fair amount to look forward to. So, what's out in June 2018? Let's take a look.
BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle
Publisher: Arc System Works (NA), PQube (EU)
Developer: Arc System Works
Release date: 5th June, 2018
Prolific fighting game developer Arc System Works is back with another 2D fighter, this time throwing multiple properties into one big tag-based brawler. BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle combines the titular BlazBlue with Persona Arena, Under Night In-Birth, and even RWBY. Dodgy DLC stuff aside, this promises to be another slick beat-'em-up, complete with its own original (and inevitably ridiculous) story.
Onrush
Publisher: Codemasters
Developer: Codemasters
Release date: 5th June, 2018
This original take on arcade racing from the creators of Motorstorm and DriveClub sees the traditional racing rulebook thrown out the window. This game is made up of objective-based modes where teams compete for points, and they do so by boosting, performing tricks, and taking down opponents in a variety of vehicle classes. It's bombastic, in-your-face fun, and while we're not 100 per cent sold just yet, it should make for an exciting addition to PS4's library.
The Elder Scrolls Online: Summerset (Expansion)
Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
Developer: ZeniMax Online Studios
Release date: 5th June, 2018
The Elder Scrolls Online has a great track record when it comes to expansions, each one of them building upon the base game in effective ways. Summerset follows in the footsteps of last year's Morrowind -- another huge addition that boasts its own main story, side quests, co-op, and player-versus-player activities. A truly massive title is about to get even bigger.
Publisher: Focus Home Interactive
Developer: Dontnod Entertainment
Release date: 5th June, 2018
Vampyr's got an undeniable jankiness to it, but there's something about this dark and dingy action RPG that's demanded our attention from day one. As a vampiric doctor roaming the plague-riddled streets of London, the cockney city's fate is largely in your hands as you struggle with moral choices and fight against other creatures of the night. Intriguing stuff.
Jurassic World Evolution
Publisher:
Developer: Frontier Developments
Release date: 12th June, 2018
Business management simulations aren’t as popular on consoles as they once were, so you sometimes have to take what you can get. Fortunately, Jurassic World Evolution has a big-budget brand behind it – and it’s looking good. Developed by Frontier, the title will see you designing your own dinosaur park, bio-engineering brand new attractions and keeping your patrons safe when there’s an inevitable outbreak. If you’re still not sold, Jeff Goldblum’s in it.
New Gundam Breaker (PS4 Console Exclusive)
Publisher: Bandai Namco
Developer: Bandai Namco
Release date: 22nd June, 2018
Smash suits, loot suits, upgrade suits -- that's the gameplay loop of New Gundam Breaker, and it could turn out to be horribly addictive. Bandai Namco's Gundam Breaker series has always been a hit in Japan, and this latest instalment finally brings the franchise overseas. With countless mobile suit parts to scavenge, open-ended customisation is the crux of this action shooter. Hopefully the wait will have been worth it.
Rainbow Skies (PS4, PS3, Vita Exclusive)
Publisher: eastasiasoft
Developer: eastasiasoft
Release date: 26th June, 2018 (NA), 27th June, 2018 (EU)
Holy crap, Rainbow Skies is finally launching -- on three platforms, too! The successor to the much loved Rainbow Moon, this is another colourful, quirky tactical RPG with a heavy emphasis on loot, playstyle customisation, and exploration. Cross-save and cross-buy functionality are the icing on the cake of this capable looking package.
The Crew 2
Publisher: Ubisoft
Developer: Ubisoft
Release date: 26th June, 2018
The crazy is amped up for The Crew 2. In an effort to open up the game and give players more freedom, Ubisoft has implemented the ability to switch between cars, planes, and boats on the fly. You can drive off a ramp in a roadster, turn into a stunt plane as you fly towards the sea, then drop out of the sky and into the water as a luxury yacht. It sounds mad, but it'll make for a more interesting open world racer when it lands/docks/parks on PS4 at the end of the month.
There's a wide variety of games out in June, but which are you most looking forward to? Vote for your favourite in our poll, and drop us a comment below to let us know.

Of these, only Vampyre has any appeal to me. Even that though is unlikely to be purchased in the 'near' future - certainly not at launch prices.
Vampyr all the way. I just hope it's good.
Not much for me this month.
Maybe Rainbow Skies? I have to look at some gameplay first, lol.
Can anyone from the staff of Push Square, find out the release date of the game "Black Friday 1979? All ive read on gaming sites about 2 months ago, was spring 2018 for ps4 and xbox one. Is this still coming?
vampyr on day 1 for sure.
can't wait for the review altough i fear many people will overlook it's story because of the "janky" gameplay. not with me though, the story and good old london are the main selling points.
@hulkie It's listed as Q2 but it's clearly not making that now.
I see Vampyr shinning big time xD
Maybe vampyr, but I think I'll finish my backlog first.
Cautiously optimistic of Vampyr
happy to see vampyr getting the lead!
@get2sammyb Well till June 20th its still Quarter 2,lol !
@hulkie There we go then.
Warhammer 40K Inquisitor Martyr is the only game I’m looking forwward to this month.
@BAMozzy My thoughts as well.
Jurassic World Evolution is the one I'm most interested in, but I won't get it anytime soon. Since there's preorder bonuses and dinosours locked behind the Deluxe edition and probable DLC, I'll just wait for either a sale or a complete edition.
Vampyr could be good, but I'll need to watch some gameplay trailers and read some reviews first.
What's the "Dodgy DLC stuff aside..." for BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle about again? I've totally forgotten...
@ThePathsofPain
Looks like it has potential, I hope it's good.
@BAMozzy $47.99 on amazon if you are a prime member. (NA obviously - not sure about across the pond)
@Juvenlast £40.99 at Amazon here but I don't think its worth that - not to me anyway - not considering the games I could buy for £40. Its a sale buy at best for me.
@LieutenantFatman same here. I love playing tabletop Warhammer, but from the few games I’ve played none have been too great. This one looks like it could be a lot of fun.
@BAMozzy Some of the best games i've played have been sale buys. Good luck!
I'm really looking forward to Rainbow Skies I feel like I've been waiting ages for it
The Elder Scrolls Online: Summerset!!
Sony would do well to include Rainbow Moon as one of June's PS+ free games, to whet people's appetite for Rainbow Skies.
Can't wait for the Jurassic World : Evolution review from you guys. Don't forget to deliberately let the dinosaurs run amok on unsuspecting visitors...
The Crew 2 looks like fun
I voted for Others since Lumines Remastered was left off the list.
The crew 2 for me hopefully I can connect to friends this time
@Juvenlast That's understandable. If you paid £40-50 (or $60+), then you generally have a higher expectation that a game will deliver a certain 'experience' and content. If you only pay a small fraction (less than half), you expectation is often lower and thus gives a game a better chance to exceed that.
Every game has a 'value' to a gamer - not necessarily the RRP and certainly not same for all. A lot of AAA games for example have a SP campaign and an extensive MP but you may only enjoy 1 aspect. It maybe that the campaign is your only interest and if the campaign is 'average', is that worth paying full price for?
A good example is the Order 1886 which a lot of people (it seems) was disappointed with the amount of content for the price but if that was priced at the same as an 'indie' game that offers 'similar' length campaigns, it would probably have received far less criticism. Price has an impact on our experience and expectation. As such, sales can turn average reviewed games into good or even great because they excel our expectation and we all love a bargain.
Tempest 4k here.
@BAMozzy That is true. I absolutely loved The Order: 1886. It was only average, but cool. But I only paid $10 for it
@Juvenlast Which proves my point - I bet you would have been less impressed if you had bought it at full price. Pricing does have an impact on perception of a game. I am sure that many people who comment in Forums about how 'good' a game was bought the game in a sale and, as such found it better than those who paid full price and wasn't overly impressed.
The Order is a great example as a lot of those who think it was 'good' are those who picked it up cheaper but for those that paid full price, things like the length, the QTE's, that 'stealth' section etc were much bigger issues. Compare it to games like Uncharted 4, H:ZD or God of War and the Order 1886 seems even worse - style over substance - but buy it at a sale price similar to a lot of the 'indies' (the £10-15 priced games), it compares with them very favourably - similar length and superb visual aesthetic.
I believe every game has a price point and that price point will vary from person to person. Just because it starts at say £45, doesn't mean that the game is worth £45 to everyone. To me, Vampyre hasn't convinced me its worth its asking price and I have followed this game closely, watching all the developer diaries etc. Compared to games like God of War, Spider-Man, RDR2 etc that are in the same 'ball-park' (£5-10 more maybe but all are still in the £40-50 bracket), it looks remarkably average with mediocre combat which for say £15 would be more 'acceptable'. Again this is 'MY' feeling right now where as others may think that £40 is very reasonable for it and going to deliver what they are 'expecting' for that money.
Rainbow Skies. Will get Onrush down the road probably.
Already ordered My copy of Vampyr and it will be delivered tuesday.
Nothing makes me happier than a fully complete game that doesn't cut content to sell back to the consumer or attempts to milk gamers for every cent they have. EA and Activision should take notes.
My backlog has me most excited 😁
Vampyr is the only one I'm interested in but not one I'll get at launch. Also want to see reviews to decide if it's one to even wait on for a sale. I liked The Crew but wasn't really sure about The Crew 2. After playing the beta for like an hour I'm not interested anymore.
Vampyr and The Crew 2 are the ones I am most looking forward too this month.
Jurassic World, but on PC.
Rest of the games look average at best.
I really hope Vampyr turns out to be good
@malbhet you know it has pre-order bonuses right?
I'm looking forward to playing Vampyr, though I shall also be checking out Jurassic World: Evolution gameplay.
I’ve been waiting over a decade for 2 new releases: Dark Cloud 3 and a new Midnight Club. Every time I read one of these I hope to see one of these titles. Disappointed yet again...
@Kai_ yeah, but we're getting 99.99 percent of a complete and content full game and don't have to worry about season passes, future dlc, microtransactions, games as service crap or any other monetization garbage because the devs literally would prefer to work on a new game, or perhaps a sequel, rather than spending more development time trying to stretch an already finished story.
I'll happily support this game and any other game that moves further from the greedy business practices that 3rd party triple A publishers are trying to force upon the gaming market.
This is as close to how games used to be released as any recent game has ever been aside from GoW, that is unless they're planing to release extra content for GoW, which if that's case this is the only one so far.
I'm just at a point where I just want to buy a complete game and not have to think, or worry, about any extra content later down the line. Thanks to Capcom and the crap they pulled with Asura's Wrath's true ending being locked behind a paywall I'm completely against any and all monetization of all single player focused games after launch.
I never forget and I never forgive, that's the only way to never get screwed more than once by the same tactic.
