Unbelievably, legendary shmup Ikaruga has never weaved its way onto a PlayStation platform before – until now. Treasure has been teasing the release of the iconic polarity-switching scroller on the PlayStation 4, with a full announcement due at E3 2018 next week. The game will subsequently be “released soon”.
There have been various versions of this game over the past two decades, with the title starting life in Japanese arcades and most recently being ported to the Nintendo Switch. But now it will finally make its PlayStation bow. We’ll let you know as soon as we get word of a firm release date, but it sounds like it’s imminent.

Oh well, no reason for me to buy it on Switch like I planned then. Woo!
Maybe I will wait then.
I mean the game will perform better, have a better feeling controller, and most likely look better in addition to trophies.
Just an all around superior experience. Good thing they didn't wait too long.
Played this on xbox360 I think, very good game, but hard as nails. At least for me
Heard so many good things about this game. I was planning on getting it for Switch but I might pick it up for PS4.
Yes. More shmups is always a good thing.
Nice, I hope the next game is guardian treasure
Woah! Just splodged in my pants!
@SMKpaladin 360 version was kinda trash. It really wasn't well ported.
The GC version is great though.
Man, I wish the GameCube cover looked as good as that piece of art in the image!
it was released on steam with the option to rotate your monitor to portrait mode and play as it was intended (vertically). it is a sight to behold. i don't think a ps4 release can match that so i will skip this release. it is a shame that treasure is content on re-releasing its old catalogue over and over again and has no means of developing new games. a pity really.
Finally I can put my GameCube copy in a safe waiting for its value to rise. Actually it's € 100 here in Europe!
@Porco The same option was available even on GC, so no reason for the Ps4 to skip it.
@andreoni79 neat, didn't know that. still, unelss they add in new stages or modes, i see no reason to upgrade the steam release.
This game handed my ass to me on a plate more times than I'd like to admit back in the day.
Great game!
One my favorite shmups of all time totally recommended for people who want a challenge
I just hope it does the numbers. Perhaps then Cave will throw a few of their greats to the PS4!
I'm definitely buying this. I was going to get the 360 version a few weeks back but I'm glad I didn't. Still have my GameCube version too. Now if only they would release Radiant silvergun and Gradius V as well. Especially Gradius V. That game is freaking incredible!
