The thought-provoking Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice has received one more update on the PlayStation 4, despite Microsoft recently acquiring Cambridge-based developer Ninja Theory. Version 1.03 adds HDR support to both the PS4 and PS4 Pro versions of the game, and it also cleans up some very minor bugs.
We really liked the Celtic adventure when we reviewed it last year: “As a character action game, it has decent if underdeveloped combat and a mixture of some excellent and some overplayed puzzles. But it’s the way that the title utilises the unique attributes of the medium to raise awareness of mental health that elevate this release beyond the sum of its parts.”

As it should. I believe if updates are needed on other platforms or its a service style title, updates should continue regardless after an acquisition.
@Knuckles-Fajita
Agreed; though the implication is that MS would willingly interfere with that. We've seen from their acquisition of Minecraft that they don't operate that way these days.
Wow, it actually didn't occur to me that the version I played didn't have HDR already! Glad it's still being supported but definitely disappointed that we won't get any more Ninja Theory games on PS4.
Aaaaaand - for only 14.99 in UK PSN store.
I waited too long, will be adding now to my backlog.
So were you expecting Hellblade to be abandoned or just removed?? Do you expect We Happy Few to release and never be updated or patched if needed?
@KALofKRYPTON Given their commitment to keeping anything they buy that's already out/committed for another platform in the loop and updated as best as possible...
This article just sounds bitter that a studio with no real affiliation to PlayStation apart from some independent titles that could have wound up anywhere, is now owned by someone.
Did anyone actually read the full patch notes? Found this a bit weird:
"Added subliminal 'buy an Xbox' messaging to specific scenes"
Oh and:
"Replaced certain textures with big images of Phil Spencer's face"
That's cool. I need to get this finished at some point. Played the first hour or so and really enjoyed the atmosphere of the game.
Not sure "enjoy" is the right word there but you know what I mean.
@ShogunRok Sure they did sweetheart. Back in your padded cell now. The big bad Xbox cant hurt your precious PS Big Mac.
I thought it already had HDR haha. Looks amazing on the Pro.
I need to get this game.
Now if only Rise of the Tomb Raider would get the Xbox HDR update.
Still don’t understand this acquisition. Ninja Theory games aren’t exactly the type of games XBOX players flock to.
Yeah and it's getting a free VR update. For Vive and Rift but no PSVR so thanks for nothing Ninja Theory
Good guy ninja
@AhmadSumadi They can make good single player game with cheap budget, perfect for game pass.
@AhmadSumadi Me neither but then most of their acquisitions were weird anyway. NT have no fanbase on Xbox, Compulsion are heavily dependent on We Happy Few to make them a top developer and Undead Labs have made two incredibly buggy zombie games, yet they "won E3" apparently.
Ninja Theory? Boooo!
@PS_Nation you’re annoyed they got acquired by Microsoft aren’t ya?
@derpie1 He won't be the only one.
@Derpie1 @adf86 Like my grandpa used to say when I was a child: “little PS_Nation, if the game is really good, it should always be available on PlayStation.”
@PS_Nation well more all platforms that can work w the game.
How difficult is this game? It's one that I'm always like, "oh yeah I need to play that!" I noticed it is part of the Xbox game sale, so I'm pretty tempted.
@PS_Nation 👍 Ninja Theorie 🤬🤬🤬🤬
@Derpie1 Who wasn't now u will never get to play any of their games anymore.
None of their games were good and this was the worst one I played.
I'm happy they didn't forget about Hellblade, was nice for them to do that despite being owned by Microsoft now.
