Well, there's not much happening in the latest Japanese sales charts -- unfortunately for us. Only one new release made it into the software top 20, and that was PlayStation 4 and Vita title Zanki Zero: Last Beginning. Across both platforms, it mustered around 25,000 copies and entered in fourth and seventh place, respectively.
Meahwhile, PlayStation hardware numbers continue to sit rather low. The PS4 and PS4 Pro shifted a combined 17,000 or so units, and we're probably not going to see any meaningful boost until later in the year when more and more games start hitting store shelves.

Holy precipitous fall-off, Batman, look at those Switch software sales numbers!
"Well, there's not much happening in the latest Japanese sales charts — unfortunately for us."
First world problems. I think Japan has more to worry about at the moment.

@rjejr Not sure I like your tone.
The Vita still lives !
Its still selling around 19k units after nearly 5yrs. I do understand @rjejr point though that with yet another natural disaster on their hands, gaming is probably not very high on many peoples minds at the moment.
I doubt we have many, if any Japanese readers but I do hope they and their families are safe and well.
@ShogunRok I do think Summer 'Drought' is in bad taste considering all the flooding and lives lost!
Sony really needs to do something for the PlayStation to capture their home market. It spells trouble for them if Nintendo continues to dominate the scene.
@GarySan well only way they can is either
A: Get Monster Hunter & Dragon Quest & other popular franchises in Japan that Nintendo doesn’t own as exclusives in like a exclusive deal so Yokai Watch also would help. But it doesn’t look like Sony completely cares since rn they still making bank in the West/all of Europe & other places around the World!
B: Jump back into Handhelds which everyone & thier gaming mommas know... WONT HAPPEN.
@GarySan They did try. Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest gave temporary boosts. Dragon Quest sold more on 3DS by virtue of price and more to sell to, but both dropped pretty fast.
Monster Hunter did very well and exploded straight up...but its tail was pretty short and fell rather fast, especially compared to some evergreen games still in the charts from even before World launched.
So they have "Moments" I would say. They need a game that can stick around but at this specific point in the PS4's life, having that kind of game won't really move systems because, well everyone who wants one...has one, or near enough.
Oh look, it's vita!
@rjejr @BAMozzy to be fair to @ShogunRok not all of us are aware of everything going on in the world. And this website is about gaming for which sales are a bit low in Japan.
Might be good to look at a few factors as to why sales are down though. The disasters might be a contributing factor, however, I am guessing it is more the time of year.
The “summer drought” is a common term for this time of year and the lower number of games launched in this period. So despite the floods in Japan I don’t think it is in poor taste. In contrast the movie industry pumps out lots of films for the “Summer Blockbusters” for the reason that more people are going out with friends in summer.
@BAMozzy @ShogunRok @Kienda
Shoot the messenger why don't we. A guy tries to spread a little knowledge and a comments thread breaks out.
@rjejr Sorry. My comment wasn’t meant as a dismissal of yours or a diss to you. The news you shared is very important.
I’m living not too far from where the typhoon struck in Kyoto.
We might see slower sales for the next 1-2 months, since millions of people have been evacuated and many lost their homes.
