Sony had a fairly big presence at ChinaJoy 2018, showcasing everything from new exclusives to a bevvy of indie titles. One such game is ANNO Mutationem, an interesting 2.5D Metroidvania game with a great cyberpunk atmosphere. Take a look at the video above.
We don't know a whole lot about this game yet, but it's very stylish, and looks to feature a mix of gameplay styles, from exploring a rainy dystopia to fighting a giant lizard creature. There's no word on a date for it yet, but we'll be keeping an eye on this one.
What do you make of ANNO Mutationem? Walk moodily down a bustling street into the comments below.

Looks like they saw The Last Night trailer and decided to make their own version of the game. It's eerily similar.
Not gonna lie, this looks awesome...well sort off. The combat needs a bit of work and the running animation is pretty slow. Since this is a game developed by Chinese developers, I'll be keeping my expectations low, since I don't want to set my myself with another disappointment. Chinese developers have a lot of talents but they really need to have enough skill in order to execute well. I'm hoping this turns out to be one of the good chinese games and not one of the bad/mediocre ones.
I really don't like the look of the player animation - or speed.
I like the vibrant look of neon filled surroundings but the animation and combat looked a bit duff.
This.. doesn’t look good.
The game looks stylish, I want to know more about this game
They stole the monters design from the skullcrawler in Kong skull island.
Maybe it's just a placeholder since the game has supposedly been in development for only 8 weeks, but still.
It shows a lot of promise but they really need to smooth put the animations a little.
@tameshiyaku I guess I should be surprised but considering the fact that China is at times just as notorious by copying assets, ideas and/or designs from other sources (Tencent Games comes to mind), we should have seen this coming.
Looks way better thenost of those complete easy Platinum games. I looks different and they just started. 😁
Some funky graphics right there. Looks... interesting, I guess.
v nice, the movement forward in scenes reminds me so much of Hercules on ps2!
@tameshiyaku actually the design itself is inspired by an image of SCP-682, where the head looks like an alligator's skull. I mean there were even loading screens that said something about SCP in chinese, so they are obviously not ripping off King Kong island.
@tameshiyaku I think you're mistaken. The monster is based on SCP 682 from the SCP site, and that's its actual design. Funnily enough, SCP 682 was created before King Kong Island.
@Flaming_Kaiser Wasn't this game announced back in January 2018? When did they started developing it?
@LieutenantFatman Aside from the iffy combat and somewhat slow running animation, I think it looks fine for the most part. And hey, at least it isn't another chinese (VR) shooter or puzzler.
@Kamenriser guess so, wasn't familiar with scp.
@Flaming_Kaiser I think that's a bit going to far. I mean, yeah is better than Legend of Korra and TMNT but even Transformers Devastation has a bit of impact in their combat. There's a game with a similar combat system of Anno called Icey, and in that game, all your hits actually felt like it hit the enemy. Here on the other hand, like with Skyrim and God Eater, it kinda feels like you're hitting the air than the enemy. I mean, even the most mediocre action games like Hidden Dragon Legend has actual impact in their combat wight.
I like the art style but the combat looks boring. I hope they fix that.
