Patrick Söderlund, the somewhat scary Electronic Arts executive who you will almost certainly recognise from various press conferences over the years, has decided to depart his role as Chief Design Officer at the publishing giant. The Swedish suit got his start as CEO at developer DICE, but eventually worked his way up the corporate ladder, becoming one of EA’s most recognisable faces.
“Patrick has been a trusted business partner and a great friend, and his inspiring leadership has had an outstanding impact on EA,” current CEO Andrew Wilson wrote as part of a letter to EA employees today. “We wish Patrick the very best in his next life adventure, and we thank him for his many significant contributions.”
There’s no word on where Söderlund will end up next, but given his considerable experience, we can only imagine he’ll be in hot demand.

no offence to the guy but if he was part of the group who has been doing all the crap at EA lately then good riddance
I really didn't like him on stage. He didn't seem to have the personality for it. No idea what sort of control he has had over the weird decisions EA have been making lately, time will tell.
@FullbringIchigo Unlikely. He was Wilson's side-kick, but Andy is the one who pioneered Ultimate Team, and now he's CEO. You'll need him to leave first.
@get2sammyb that means things will probably get even worse at EA doesn't it
well there goes ANY hope for a decent Star Wars game for the foreseeable future
No clue who he is. Hopefully he ends up somewhere much, much better than EA.
Guess he didnt buy his season pass!
So, Nolan Sorrento then?
Sad to see him go, always got the impression he was one of the few at EA's top brass who cared about the games. Think he may well have been the one behind the EA originals program too.
Patrick who?
if he was 1 of the few good guys then all the best to him since he will end up in a MUCH better company.
but if he was very much involved in EA's antics then i fear for the company that will hire him.
@LaNooch1978 Book was fun, though how he could take in so much (film dialogue, games, music tracks, TV shows, etc etc) and still lead a normal life was absurd.
Film was a by the numbers plot line and nothing like the book but a Spielberg masterpiece in terms of mis en scene, montage and direction.
Like the man says "It's the way I tell 'em"
Concentrating on being a sociopath? Glad not to seem him at anymore conventions.
@LaNooch1978
'The Shining episode was good, it made me go back and watch the original film.
@LaNooch1978 thanks, I'll look for it now..

Re the blood elevator, time and context I guess. stripped of all the other mindbending visual and editing tricks that surround that particular scene, (and replaced by the spectacular of the Oasis) the blood from the elevator loses its resonance and becomes just another 'wow' scene.
@LaNooch1978 Here's a sort piece i knocked up on a few connections i found between The Shining and Ready Player One.
