Gamescom 2018 gets underway next week, and a “jury consisting of German and international games journalists” as well as a handful of YouTubers have nominated a series of games for awards across a variety of disciplines. There are some oddities here, like the mysterious inclusion of a title called Project Mephisto in the Best PlayStation 4 Console Game category – we’ve never heard of it before, and Google isn’t returning anything.
Also of interest is that Life Is Strange 2 is included among the Best Casual Game and Best Family Game categories. While this could be down to awkward categorising, it’s perhaps worth noting that we haven’t seen a single second of gameplay from the long-awaited sequel yet, so maybe it’s a hint at what we can expect when the release is fully revealed next week.
Elsewhere, the nominations include the usual mixture of games, including Marvel’s Spider-Man and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. We’ve included the full list below, but congratulations to PlayStation VR platformer Astro Bot Rescue Mission for securing a nod in the Best Puzzle Game category.

Reveal trailer incoming!
Er, you mentioned some systems you shouldn't have there.
Also, Team Sonic Racing attached to THQ Nordic's subsidiaries in Europe? Just like Puyo Puyo Tetris? Why can't SEGA Europe publish these things exactly?
I wonder what Project Mephisto is?
I've just googled Mephisto and apparently he's a Marvel baddie. Could it be that Avengers game maybe?
I'm keeping my fingers crossed we see that Cyberpunk demo but not holding my breath.
@Tsurii Yeah, almost certain it will be playable/demoed games only.
in a fair world spiderman should win in both the best ps4 game and best action game category.
but they will most likely have some other game win to stay relevant.
Mostly predictable and conservative stuff. It would have been nice to see more outside-the-box games on these kind of lists, but this is what people voted for.
But it will start next week only, that's odd. Do you guys remember Biomutant? I wonder if it will be released this year too.
@Tsurii shows how little upcoming big releases THAT console has...
I'm curious, some of these games probably havent gone gold, how can they possibly judge them?
Surely Aliens Colonial Marines meant demos mean nothing.
Since when Add-on/DLC get nominations 😑 what's next best micro transactions and loot boxes might as well add best fan service game and put Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal 😝
