PlayStation VR turns two years old today. Hip hip hooray! With over three million headsets out in the wild and more than 22 million software purchases to accompany them, it's fair to say that Sony's virtual reality gamble has more than paid off. The headset continues to receive one unforgettable experience after another, with 2018 alone boasting about the likes of the speedy Sprint Vector, the lovely and adorable adventure of Moss, and of course, the peripheral's best game yet, Astro Bot Rescue Mission. There's already a gigantic pool of quality titles to choose from for those jumping in for the first time, and when you take a peak at what's coming in the near future, things just keep on getting better. PSVR is here to stay.
To mark today's occasion, we've quizzed Push Square's editorial team and pool of contributors on what their first experiences with PSVR were like, the games that have stuck with them, and what they're looking forward to next.

What was your first experience using PlayStation VR?
It was the infamous Kitchen demo, which would later become Resident Evil 7. I'd tried the very early Oculus Rift development kits and was already a virtual reality believer, but my first time with PSVR really blew me away. Reviewer Simon Fitzgerald likes to remind me that I screamed during that demo; I regret nothing.
Which have been your favourite games so far?
Most recently I've been blown away by Astro Bot Rescue Mission, but SUPERHOT VR is probably still my absolute favourite -- I just love how empowering that game is with PSVR. I've got to give a special mention to an underrated release called The Invisible Hours, though -- I adore the concept of that game.
Have you showed any of your family or friends the PSVR? How did they react?
I love watching people experience PSVR for the first time, because it really is technology that needs to be seen to be believed. I showed my Mum the underwater section from PSVR Worlds and she was really, really impressed with it. Both my Dad and I saw huge potential in the World Cup broadcasts that the BBC did, too.
Which upcoming PSVR games are you most looking forward to?
Blood & Truth is the one for me. We haven't seen many huge budget story-driven games on PSVR yet, and I think London Studio's really going to show what's possible when you have a lot of cash behind you. Outside of that, it's going to be fascinating to see what the PS4's community does in Dreams.

What was your first experience using PlayStation VR?
Much like everyone else's first time, I got my hands on a PSVR for the first time at a videogame expo, namely EGX 2017. I was a bit of a late bloomer when it comes to VR, always holding an interest in the tech but never getting the chance to actually play around with it. Once I did, though, I was sold. Moss was my first experience of PlayStation VR at the event, followed by the likes of Shooty Fruity. Shame how that one turned out.
Which have been your favourite games so far?
Moss has definitely been my favourite so far, but I do have Astro Bot Rescue Mission sitting in my backlog so that could soon change. I was also a big fan of Sprint Vector; the locomotive mechanic that allowed you to generate speed is one of the greatest feelings in VR.
Have you showed any of your family or friends the PSVR? How did they react?
Surprisingly, I haven't actually had anyone else demo virtual reality using my own headset. My parents don't seem particularly interested, and when they do come into my room and I've got the PSVR on whilst staring at my wardrobe, they probably think it's all a bit weird.
Which upcoming PSVR games are you most looking forward to?
Beat Saber is the one for me. I'm incredibly excited for that game, and it shouldn't be too much longer until I get my hands on it.

What was your first experience using PlayStation VR?
My first experience with PSVR came at PAX East 2016 when I got to play Thumper not once, but twice. This was still before the headset was on sale, and I was immediately smitten. It was really exciting to be seeing the future firsthand, and I haven't looked back since. I love VR.
Which have been your favourite games so far?
So many of the VR experiences I've had have been wonderful, but Thumper holds a special place in my heart as my intro to VR. Plus it's an incredible game. I also adored Moss, which is one of the most charming games I may ever have played. And 'Area X' in Rez Infinite is a transcendent experience that anyone interested in VR needs to give a try.
Have you showed any of your family or friends the PSVR? How did they react?
I have shown as many people as possible VR, including my family. Both my parents and grandfather -- none of whom are gamers themselves -- were absolutely blown away. Ocean Descent in VR Worlds was especially useful for that. My Mom, in particular, wasn't brave enough, but everyone I've shown VR to has been at least impressed, if not enthralled!
Which upcoming PSVR games are you most looking forward to?
PSVR already has a really impressive portfolio, but there's quite a bit on the way still that I really want. If Golem ever actually comes out, I want that very badly. A little nearer is Tetris Effect, which I've been incredibly excited for since its announcement. Star Child is another I'm really excited about actually. There are almost too many upcoming games to count!

What was your first experience using PlayStation VR?
My first experience of PSVR was at EGX 2016 in a small room crammed with various other Push Square scribes. We had the chance to try out the Kitchen demo and it absolutely sold the device to me there and then. I can still recall Sammy’s screams to this day as he physically recoiled in fear from the spooky woman attacking him.
Which have been your favourite games so far?
My favourite titles that I’ve played on PSVR are (in no particular order): Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, The Playroom VR, Statik, How We Soar, Thumper, and SUPERHOT VR.
Have you showed any of your family or friends the PSVR? How did they react?
When PSVR first came out I was showing everyone: family, friends -- no one could escape it and the majority of them enjoyed it and were surprised how immersive it was. A few found they experienced motion sickness and were very quick to remove it but on the whole it got positive reactions.
Which upcoming PSVR games are you most looking forward to?
Beat Saber is the one VR title I am really looking forward to. I can’t wait to listen to some great tunes whilst waving around lightsabers in time to the beat.
And there we have it, two years of PlayStation VR have flown by just like that. The headset is in a great position with a slew of quality exclusive games, a ton more experiences on the way, and an attractive price point. Let's pour one out for PSVR as it enters its third year on the market, having never looked better. Cheers PlayStation VR!

Whey! Happy birthday, PSVR. Great article, Liam!
I see the potential in the world cup VR broadcast but i found it unwatchable watching the players on the pitch lacked any kind of detail. I only lasted about 10 minutes. When the tech gets better then I think that will be a better experience.
Thumper is probably my favourite game on VR.
A great revelation in my eyes. I've been gaming for 20+ years and a lot of games feel very 'samey' to me.
VR makes the old feel new again. That's exciting and makes me feel like a kid again.
@Fight_Teza_Fight I love your avatar!
I'm hugely interested in VR but after a bad experience the first time I played it, I was put off buying it. Although I feel like Astro Bot might be the final tipping point persuading me to get it. There's so many games/experiences/whatever you want to call them that I wanna try out so I'm seriously considering getting a headset next month now.
i'm glad someone else is excited about blood and truth just as i am, i enjoyed the london heist while playing PS world and was happy there was more of that coming.
teteris effect is something to look forward to aswell.
@get2sammyb i agree, astro bot FTW.
@roe bad experience do you mind sharing? and was it a horror game or something?
@huyi basically I collapsed shortly after playing Robinson: The Journey (a game notorious with motion sickness). The game crashed half way through a climbing section and it completely threw my body out of sync.
The VR experience itself until the crash was amazing fwiw
The Kitchen Demo was my first experience and I was thrilled by it, seeing the amazing potential for full-on immersive horror games. Obviously then, Resident Evil 7 has been my favourite game so far. I also love the desolate and creepy weirdness of Here They Lie. Now, real life rollercoasters are defo not for me, but I loved the stomach lurching sensations that Until Dawn: Rush Of Blood gave me, as well as it’s shooting and jump scares. Special mention for The Persistence too. And the awesomeness of Gunjack - it’s basically 3D Galaxians, and it’s something I wouldn’t have bothered with on a flatscreen.
The Invisible Hours, Superhot VR, Moss, Astrobot and many others are sitting in my backlog, and I’m sure I’ll love them too.
I’m a very satisfied early adopter of PSVR 👍
@roe What did you try that gave you a bad experience? Just curious really.
EDIT: Ah, just seen your response. Yeah, not nice.
@get2sammyb Thanks! Astro Bot is my spirit animal .
@roe When you do get to try VR again you may want to start of with games that aren’t too taxing.
Games that can be played sitting down, like Astro Bot, Thumper, Rez are great in getting your VR legs.
It’s game by game... I still can’t play Driveclub VR without feeling s bit sick.
I've been playing No Heroes Allowed for the last couple of days, currently on sale. Good simple fun, really enjoying it.
Only downside to a lot of games in VR at the moment is the experiences can be somewhat short compared to some non-VR titles. But quality is more important than quantity and most of my purchases have bought in sales so have been well worth it.
@Fight_Teza_Fight thanks. Yeah, my intention is to pace myself with games like Moss and Astro Bot - if I do get it.
Still too many wires and variables for me to jump in at this point. I came close to buying one when they were $200, but I just can't do it.
I really tempted by VR but don't know anyone who has one. I really need to try it before buying it as I do worry that I'd feel really nauseous while playing it!
Mine is waiting in it's box for xmas 😁🎄
@RedMageLanakyn
Occulus are releasing a VR headset next year which will be wire free and you will not need a PC to run it.
@hotukdeals I was looking into that, but it looks like the hardware is still relatively weak to run games. I guess I'm waiting for technology to allow for a lag-free wireless transfer of data from either a console or computer, so you can have the horsepower without the wires. I'm thinking it will become a reality in the next VR hardware gen.
For anyone worried about getting sick, I have horrendous motion sickness. I feel ill in the back of cars on long journeys and at theme parks. Luckily there are games which cater for us lot like statik, destruction ball and Batman VR. You need to try them out. Just stay away from luge, driveclub vr and farpoint.
Psvr. So much more to explore, but i adored batman vr, job simulator and currently astrobot. Some games have given me motion sickness but im working through it. I fear wipeout will continue to be too much, and it was actually the total immersion of resident evil 7 that got me.
Cant wait to play moss
Job simulator was my first experience my second was the kitchen scene Both blew me away. I have enjoyed the VR experience.
Congratulations PSVR! The device is definitely a success.
I'm seriously thinking about to buy the bundle with Astro Bot and Moss, two games that I really want to play.
Dreams has the potential to be a big hit on PS4 and PSVR as well.
I have only played Super Hot on my son's PSVR. My personal impression is that the hardware is uncomfortable and clunky. I see some potential there but am not convinced in this generation of virtual reality.
I bought day one and it is amazing but honestly it has gathered dust the last few months. Mainly due to money as new games are expensive. Now I have lost my VR legs and need to build up resistance to it again.
@roe holy crap that is a reaction! and i thorght when my boyfrined first tried VR was a disaster.
@get2sammyb i hope when he tries VR next time he has a better experience at least, he shouldn't have gone for the more heavy handed games and should have went for a light experience instead.
@huyi I wouldn't have started with Robinson had I known what it was like, also cuz the game was ultimately a disappointment anyway but it seems I wasn't the only one that had problems with that game (although maybe not quite to my level).
What happened with your boyfriend and VR?
Ever since I ended up crawling around on the floor trying to find cover under a desk in The London Heist I have been hooked. So don’t need to say how much I am looking forward to Blood And Truth. Hoping Ace Combat 7 will be worth it, although they could really loose the cheesy plot and dialogue and just make a decent VR flightsim. The X-Wing mission from Star Wars Battlefront takes some beating...How about a full game?
@roe the ocean lift with the shark on VR worlds, yeah you can imagine the rest of it, he doesn't play the VR as much anymore even when i try to encourage him rofl
@Rudy_Manchego the main thing i like about VR games is they are cheaper than the AAA games being sold at £50 a pop, helps my budget a bit.
it helps to wait for the flash sales too so just a bit of patience is needed for that.
@zeppray first experience for me was the last guardian demo, was amazing that one.
What started off as a niche accessory for the PS4 has now turned into a place for quality VR exclusives. Happy 2nd birthday PSVR!
Did that one too it was cool !!!
I bought psvr, specially for gts. I loved the experience so much. Wayward sky is an overlooked title which, in my view, is one of the best stories and gameplay on vr. However there are two things holding me back. First is motion sickness, though this tends to become less of thing the more you play and second the hassle and all the cable to put the glasses on. Thats why i sold the vr just a week ago. Again, i loved the experience and wait for a more user friendly headset to step in again.
@get2sammyb Hi Sammy. I'm thinking about to buy a PSVR, but it's kinda expensive where I live (Brazil, many taxes for gaming).
Anyway, I really want a PSVR because there are many games that I'm interested already.
Do you think it's a good purchase for someone with an original PS4 only or do I need a Pro to enjoy?
Also, do you think the device will be compatible with PS5? It's difficult to answer that, I know.
With the news of Borderlands 2.VR coming out I am half tempted to get one. But I just can't afford one now maybe when they hit the bargin bin.
I'll buy PSVR once they release a full length big budget AAA game EXCLUSIVELY to it.
Until then no thanks, especially since I get motion sickness easily.
