it's a pretty good selection, plus i will finally get to play Wild Arms and the original Persona
Looks like I'll finally be able to play the original Persona.
Great lineup! Still think it's a bit of a shame that the console doesn't feature Dualshock controllers, but that's my only real criticism.
And just like there’s a varied mix of games people’s reactions are mixed - disappointed not talking here I mean on the wonderful toxic cancerous world that is Twitter.
Sucks that Legend of Dragoon and Ape Escape isn't there. Would gladly take both over Cool Boarders and Tom Clancy Rainbow Six. Still, I'm surprised that Metal Gear Solid and Persona actually made it in here.
And just what the heck is Mr. Driller?
@Derpie1 well like you said, it's Twitter and i stopped taking notice of anything people say on Twitter when people started defending assaulters and attacking the victims on there
that place is a toxic dump, home to the cesspit of humanity
I have these games on PS3 n 4 ,but a good list anyway.
I think it's a good list. They will never, ever make everyone happy with just 20 games — but I'm actually pleasantly surprised.
I don't feel very excited about that list but am also struggling to think what I want instead.
Maybe its just not for me! Have got this on pre-order but will have to give that some thought.
Did anyone actually ask for Mr Driller?!
Pretty solid lineup. I'm so glad they included destruction derby, that's one of my fav racers ever, and i have played PLENTY of racing games. I think they should have put twisted metal 2 instead of 1. It was bigger and better in every aspect, but its better than nothing. Also think they should have added the original warhawk as well
That's a good list I will definitely be getting one, the only games missing for me are tomb raider and gran turismo/Colin mcrae rally but I have those on original disc so happy days
That's a pretty good lineup.
Seems like the PS4 remasters didn't make the cut; No Crash and Parappa for example. I do feel they're more iconic to the PS1 than some other titles. But 20 is a short list. It's alright, but for €100 I think I'll pass.
Mr driller!
Oh god yes. Humanity has reached its pinnacle.
I started the day depressed contemplating my life and i remember thinking;
'only mr driller on ps retro can save this dour existence'.
And they did!
Thank you sony, thans so much.
-_-
Not bad! A few firm favourites on there but most of them I can already play in one form or another.
Syphon Filter is tempting but I really can't imagine that game holds up very well in the graphics and controls department. Probably handles worse than RDR2, actually.
Intelligent Qube! Fist-pump
I can't believe, especially with the upcoming release of RE2 Remake, that they chose RE1 over 2. Pretty disappointing to be honest.
Seems like a fun line up and many hours of entertainment. Gran turismo and WipeOut are surprise omissions, and tony hawks will have been victim to licensing i guess
Pretty happy with that! I was buying this as a nostalgia piece anyways, but I think I’ll get some fun out of it.
Can't believe anybody would have called that line up! It does have one or two, like original Persona, that interest me from a playing perspective, but as a PS1 JRPG nut it is difficult to justify a purchase at that price. I can appreciate the variety will please some people though, just not me.
I am actually quite happy with this lineup. It only sucks there is no Castlevania. We already have remasters for spyro and crash.
@RedMageLanakyn Surely it makes more sense not to feature res 2 for that very reason?
That's cancelled preorder my end 😒
Cancelled my pre-order since the line-up isn't super appealing too me. Was hoping for a few more hidden gems (Puzzle Fighter is a great inclusion) . Still wish they have the dualshock so we could have a few really classics likie Ape Escape and the like, but if the lineup looks good to you and you don't have a PS3 or PSP/Vita anymore then it should be an okay deal.
Couple of games on there are nice but not enough for me some strange choices like Twisted Metal 1 over 2. Would be interesting to see some of these games as would guess a lot of them haven't aged well.
@NintendoFan4Lyf if that was the list i'd be all over it, you've got me dreaming of an alternate reality where that is in fact the actual line up, sigh.
Not a bad list. I do own original copies of a lot of the games listed, but there are a few that I've never played.
I kinda wish they would've included Silent Hill 1 since I don't have a copy of it, but ah well.
I really, really wanted Chrono Cross and Legend of Dragoon to be in this list, but other than that, it's a pretty solid lineup.
It's not something I'm interested in, personally. I'm not one for constantly replaying the old games, as they rarely live up to my memories of them. That's why I'm not fussed about b/c on PS4 (despite the fact I still have my PS3).
Plus, I suspect they're going to look bloody awful at 720p/1080p/4K.
@FullbringIchigo although they’re still people who either will or won’t buy this...
Obviously there’s hard punches against buying this... Price, Controllers, AC Adaptor, and now subjectively the games. Now ofc you can counter all of these or defend all of these but hey they have thier choices...
It’s a passable lineup for both sides... Japanese And English...
That's a really cool lineup...
But can you hmmmm...alter the console to....get new games?
@AFCC I suspect a new cottage industry may spring up that will allow that
I guess we know why they didn't release the entire roster earlier. From the looks of things there don't seem to be many classic games here, and it seems they're going more for novelty and first-in-the-series titles than a Greatest Hits like what Nintendo's been doing with their own Classics Mini range. It's the only explanation I can think of for choosing stuff like Cool Boarders 2 and Destruction Derby over Tony Hawk and Gran Turismo.
@AFCC bruh you shouldn’t be surprised this thing is gonna get altered...
Where's tomb raider 1, when I think of ps1 tomb raider 1 is on the top 5 game series on that console (with ff, gt, re, mgs, etc). Also I want street fighter alpha, and who's idea to put a 2D rayman in there?? There's way more better 2D (or 2.5D) games on ps1 rather this rayman, like klonoa and tomba.
The lineup seems ok. The biggest shock for me is the original Persona being there: The game is infamous for a bad localization and generally agreed to suffer First Game Syndrome.
Battle Arena Toshinden's a bit of a surprise too.
When you think about it, the PS1 has aged horribly. I loved Destruction Derby, FFVII and Tekken 3 when I was a kid, but I don't have the same desire to play them as I did the SNES classics.
Some good games, but I fear it's far too compromised to be amazing.
12 of the 20 games on here I never actually owned so that's a plus. Sony obviously didn't value putting games on that had recent remake treatments. But if the system ends up having an easy way to add more games to it then it'll be worth the price of admission.
@Fullmetalwesker Those games would have had huge licencing issues so it was always unlikely they would be in anyway.
I think that's a decent line up, probably won't end up buying one as I'm not into the whole mini fade but it's a good selection. Kula World, Klonoa & Tombi would have been nice though
@NintendoFan4Lyf When they first announced this and I went over games in my head I soon realized I'd rather have a Squaresoft retro console than a Sony one. This list has a bit too much variety for me for $5 per game when Rare put out a 30 for $30 disc. And I really don't need another PS1 I still have my original in its box in case I ever want to hook up my 2 DDR floor pads.
This will still sell, but I think those 20 for $100 looks a little high for the mass hysteria the $60 NES Mini brought about.
Should have included Vagrant Story, I think that was the last big highly rated game on PS before the PS2 launched. I hated it personally, but it was well regarded by pretty much every one else. Parasite Eve was my first, love that one.
Happy with this. As you say, they can't please everyone but I'm pleasantly surprised with some of these.
That's a pretty good line-up and most of those were ones I'd put on it.
@Rob_230 They're two very different games, you'd think Capcom would want to drive up nostalgia for the original RE2 to get people hyped for the remake, then again we don't know if they had any say in what games were chosen for this system.
@FullbringIchigo the persona has made me so excited for it.
@RedMan33 If those 3 were on it would be severely tempted to pick one up. I was hoping they would at least do the PS2 remaster of Klonoa 2. Seems Sony gave up on the PS2 games quite quickly.
@jrpgdude i OWN majority of these games on disc and digital on ps3 too lol list is meaningless to me (they could have squeezed a bit more in there imo) but it's a fun list for anyone who wants to play them i guess.
@bindiana yeah I'd like to see more love given to the PS2 section of the store
@SoulsBourne128 massively popular bargain bin puzzle game. was £10 for its entire shelf life. pure "meh"
@jrpgdude i know right.i got most of those game on my ps3.and I also got ps2 games on my ps3.word up son
@RedMan33 yeah I want more ps2 games as well Max Payne 2.maximo 2.cold fear.scarface the world is yours.erc.word up son
I hope Sony do a PS2 classic and pre-load timesplitters to it
AWFUL list all things considered. just abysmal... i would cancel my pre-order in a heartbeat if not for the fact i might be able to hack it and add my own roms to it.
nobody thinks of persona 1 when they think back on playstation — nobody! that game is quite terrible by todays standards and wasn't even fondly remembered back in the day. besides, it got a superior remake on the psp and has no business being in this collection. cool borders? destruction derby? rainbow six? are you kidding me? that is just filler trash nobody wanted and were games you would find in the bargain bins 20 years ago. shouldn't these 20 games all be iconic and memorable? castlevania sotn should have been on there, even with the shoddy remaster that was recently put on psn. a few great jrpgs are missing, most notably chrono cross, xenogears, suikoden 2 etc... if it were up to me, i would include at least 5 steller jrpgs (but i can understand why they couldn't put more than 3 jrpgs on this thing). no gran turismo? what! a sony ip and they couldn't even bother to put it on there? that game made waves when it released. i better stop... my rant will go on far too long at this rate.
No Gran Turismo that's dispointing
Keep hoping one of these mini systems will include the ability to buy additional games considering their proven popularity... would've been a good opportunity for Sony to listen to some of the feedback Nintendo has been ignoring. At least Sony didn't shy away from M-Rated titles.
Disappointed in some obvious missed games like Silent Hill, Tomb Raider, Crash Bandicoot, Grand Turismo, Tony Hawk 2... most people wouldn't remember half the included games off the top of their head. Contrast with the SNES mini where all the games are recognizable and you're just wishing they had a few more you miss playing.
Not worth $100.
@Anguspuss @CK97 @FullbringIchigo A word of warning, the English localisation for the PS1 version of Persona 1 is awful. Not just with regards to the poor attempt at an Americanisation, but also the fact that they cut out the Snow Queen storyline, which makes up a significant part of the game. Check out the PSP version instead
I'll wait for the $60 sale in a year or two, not worth $100 to me imo.
I am a Sony gamer through and through but this list just shows you why the 16-bit era is classic and the 32-bit era is just OLD. Now put this selection of games side to side with the Snes mini ones...depressing.
Not some Need For Speed game?!, no buy then.
Just Kidding! (but, yes, some disaapointed) XD
20 of all the library that has the playstation is a challenge of choice!
I'd rather have Tobal number 1 than Toshinden.
And Driller is a very poor choice. Did anyone actually buy it?
@playstation1995 still have my Maximos brill games, would be great to see a 3rd
@RedMan33 yeah a third game will be awesome.this game was dark souls before dark soul.this game was hard im still playing maximo on my ps3.word up son
