Assassin's Creed Odyssey is only a few days away, which can only mean one thing: reviews. Only a year out from Assassin's Creed Origins, there have been concerns over Odyssey, but going by what critics are saying, Ubisoft has pulled off another spectacular adventure. The game's being praised for its incredibly detailed open world, its excellently implemented role-playing mechanics, and some fantastic character progression.
Games Radar - 5/5
After 70 hours I've only just finished the main storyline and I still have plenty to see in Odyssey's Greece, and it's a joy to keep on exploring. No-one's made an open-world RPG with this much depth and brilliance since The Witcher 3. This really is the ultimate Creed.
Destructoid - 9/10
Assassin's Creed Odyssey is superb in nearly every aspect. It's the most impressive Assassin's Creed, even though sometimes it feels like it's Assassin's Creed in name only. It's as broad as Atlas' shoulders and as strong as Hercules. This time, Ubisoft hit a real Homer.
Game Informer - 8.25/10
The story is compelling, both as a hero’s journey and in the way it ties into the series’ wider lore. Exploring the world is fun, combat is empowering, and getting epic loot is a thrill. That solid core formula carries Odyssey a long way, but like Icarus and his wax wings, it’s not enough to reach the bright star on the horizon.
GameSpot - 8/10
While its large-scale campaign--clocking in at over 50 hours--can occasionally be tiresome, and some features don't quite make the impact they should, Odyssey makes great strides in its massive and dynamic world, and it's a joy to venture out and leave your mark on its ever-changing setting.
Kotaku - N/A
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s defining characteristic is how often it seems to be anything other than an Assassin’s Creed game. It admirably copies The Witcher 3’s form, crafting a near-fantasy setting that feels worthy of the legendary creatures and storied heroes it contains.
Are you looking forward to Assassin's Creed Odyssey? We should have a review for you in the near future, but until then, let us know if you're ready for adventure in the comments section below.

I saw some YouTubers playing the game. That "This is Sparta!" kick is ridiculous.haha
I love how for years, it was "games need to offer 100 hours of content or they're not worth $60".
And now it's "I wish games weren't as long, nobody has time to play a game for 100 hours".
@ShogunRok Are they the same people?
I also think you can have a game that's padded; I thoroughly enjoyed Origins but I did think the campaign was overly long, so if this is even longer I can see it being a bit fatiguing after a while.
I loved Origins and put in well over 100 hours into it, so am really looking forward to this
i never understand why ps4 reviews are placed in the title, always makes me think the other versions are awful some how, can understand if an exclusive. cant wait for this to arrive, still waiting on fist of the north star to dispatch( will we see a review this week)
The reviews are looking promising. It might just keep this game afloat being squeezed between RDR2 and the Spider-Man. I’ll pick it up eventually based on the positive critical reception.
And it looks like Destructoid is trying their hand at one-upping Push Square in the pun department. I got a chuckle out of that last line. Can’t wait to see the PS review. 😁
I can't wait! I'm going to binge it and try to get everything done before RDR2.
@ShogunRok
thats gamers for you, we do seem to suffer from Goldilocks syndrome
@ShogunRok
I did see a trend in a few reviews doing what you describe.
Hopefully RDR2 is going to change points of view as in stories are not always really ending.
@ShogunRok I think the difference is meaningful content, Ubisoft in particular are guilty of having content for the sake of it. With both Assassin's Creed Origins and Far Cry 5 I was bored long before the end, not because there was anything wrong with the gameplay but I just felt I was always repeating the same tasks as I had just done in the last area with no real purpose. It doesn't help that they share so many mechanics across their open world games in the first place.
This looks good but I've got too many games at the moment with Spiderman and catching up with God of War after that whilst I can't see myself buying this over Red Dead Redemption 2
Wow! I didn't expect such high praise. Good job I guess to ubi.
@get2sammyb To be totally honest I think a lot of them are the same people.
They're just older and they have less time.
@ShogunRok Or people that like to complain a lot, I guess.
my problem with origins content wise, was that most of the side content was just all the same and almost never ending.
i have the platinum but collecting all the side content related trophies was not all that fun.
all those enemy roman camps,all those animal hideouts you had to kill. just to much of the same.
That image though... "This is Spartassassin's Creed!"
Judging by the scores, it’s a GOTY contender.
@PS_Nation
it will be a contender, but we all know there will be only one game of the year, unless rockstar seriously drop the ball
@ShogunRok That's what they get for having kids...
@suikoden God of War is also a huge contender, it’s the favorite right now.
@ShogunRok The Order: 1886 would have been a huge hit in 2018.
red dead redemption 2 is going to win GOTY but i think GOW will be a close second.
@Splat good luck with that! 😉
@WanderingBullet 'THIS. IS. BIRMINGHAM!!'
I'm still going to wait on it. Too many other games coming in October.
Oh, I was so excited for this game I pre-ordered RDR2
I'm not sure whether this is a good game or not, or if I ever play it, but what I know is that... this isn't even an Assassin's Creed in the first place.
I was going to buy this anyway because I enjoyed Origins but the reviews are sounding reet good.
Honestly still haven't completely finished Origins... I really need to pick it back up and finish it up. There's entire sections of the map unexplored!
This looks so so good!To be honest I'm more excited by this than Red Dead which until recently I wasn't hyped for anyway.Trouble is I haven't even bought or played Origins so not sure it's a good idea to play this before the other..
Assassins Creed is one of the few franchises where I would always buy day one.
All these games are we in heaven. We barely have time to breath.
@suikoden idk it would have to do a lot to knock gow off the perch at least for me
@dark_knightmare2
How could I forget GOW
Looking great, maybe not buying straight away but down the line.
@LaNooch1978 Unfortunately not, I'm just down with the regional lingo. I'm a Scouser or at least I used to be. Proper woolyback now aren't I.
I read the stealth isn't very good and is underpowered.... Cool ancient Greece game, but I think it should be judged by it's name more and the expectations that brings.
I still not played the previous game on my ps4 yet
Bought origin when I got the 20% discount code on psn, only played it 2-3 hours before deciding to finish horizon zd first, getting distracted with finishing gow, playing dead cells, guacamelee 2, and now spidey.
I think I'll get this when it's discounted and after I finished origin.
I've recently finished both Spiderman and God of war, just mopping up some games that are installed on my PS4 that I haven't finished yet. If i finish the mop up before RD2 arrives then I'll get this first, if not I'll buy it after RD2...but this game is definitely on my wanted list .
@get2sammyb @ShogunRok I imagine they now work part time/full time jobs and suddenly have alot less free time for gaming, something I can understand all too well RIP.
@LaNooch1978 @suikoden @PS_Nation I'm honestly suspecting it'll be a battle between God of War, Spider-Man, and Red Dead Redemption 2 as well, should be interesting to see who comes out on top.
@KidBoruto True my dude!
@LaNooch1978 I don't follow/play Indie titles so no clue about that sorry. I'm referring to AAA GOTY contenders only.
@PS_Nation Amen to that bro! Do you have Discord or Skype btw?
PM me on PSN (ToddlerNaruto) if you do have either or both.
OH SNAP...I wrote before that I would only get this later because I was a little burnout from Origins but these reviews are giving me some hype! Oh boy, hold on wallet...I need Red Dead Redemption soon!
@KidBoruto I don't have, but can I add you on PSN?
@PS_Nation Sure go for it and add me on PSN. Just be sure to tell me who you are there.
Depending on how I get on with Origins (about 15 hours in and really enjoying it) I may get Odyssey eventually.
awesome lets go ubi
I feel like the series is sort of wandering around blindly story wise but it sounds like the gameplay is solid. I'll pick this up eventually. I am stoked about being a female assassin for the entire game though.
56 reviews in and it's Metacritic 85, which would rank it in the top 87-125 games of all time on the PS4.
Which is why I did my own research and pre-ordered a while back
I thought Origins was a really good game though I started off doing all the side content and by... half way? I just made a bee-line for the main story's end as I started to get fatigued.
Even the Witcher, I explored and did everything up to Skellige then just needed to finish the game already lol
Better to have too much content than feel short changed.
