We've not heard a great deal from the Trine series for a while, have we? Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power didn't really go down all that well, and the series has remained dormant in the years since. It looks like that's all about to change, though, as Frozenbyte has confirmed that it's working on Trine 4, and it'll arrive on PS4 next year.
The developer is partnering with Modus Games, who will publish the new title. It's all sounding pretty positive; a press release from Frozenbyte CEO Lauri Hyvärinen says the follow-up is "going to be the best in the series." He continues: "We have rekindled our love for the franchise, heard and seen the fan feedback, and our hearts are set on exceeding those expectations. Trine is back!"
A full announcement will be made soon, but until then, details are scant. Are you excited to see the return of Trine? Let us know your hopes for the sequel in the comments below.

...there was a Trine 3? Huh, I forgot about this series after 2.
hmm, i thought the developers went bankrupt or something and they said they weren't making anymore?
good news regardless, i've played all of the games so far so looking forward to this one.
That’s great, now all they’ve got to do is put the other games in the series on sale once in a while! Jeez! /s
Loved one and two. Didn't like three. I hope four goes back to 2D.
i liked Trine 3 - it was to me the best in the series, looked amazing especially with 3D and I got the platinum. It was short but then i got it for about £5 in a sale - will be interested in how they take the series forward.
that is a good point, do you think they will make this game in VR instead of 3D i wonder?
Yup. It was one of the best games on the Wii u.
Day one if it's 2.5D games like trine 1 and 2
So glad to see this continue after the divided reaction to Trine 3. High hopes for this one!
Hmm. I played a bit of Trine 2 (?, the one that was on PS+) and really enjoyed it, particularly with the 3D effects, although I didn't stick with it for too long for some reason.
2D or not 2D? That is the question.
