We know that the PS4 has retro-styled games coming out of its ears, but when they're done well, they're brilliant. Blazing Chrome looks like the next good example of modern pixel art done right, as you can see in the above trailer. This run-and-gunner takes inspiration from the likes of Contra and Metal Slug, and we'd say the developer JoyMasher has done a pretty good job. It looks like a long lost 16-bit game.
The trailer focuses on the various environments of the title, but it's still full of arcade action and gives us a very clear idea of what it's aiming for. In addition to the usual explosion-filled side-scrolling action, there appears to be clear inspiration from Space Harrier towards the end of the video. It's due out early next year -- colour us intrigued.
What do you think of Blazing Chrome? Run, but don't gun, in the comments below.

Looks awsome. š
Looks great, will buy it if the game's good. Too bad there's no psvita version, I think psvita can handle this.
Yeah Iām in. I loved metal slug in the arcades when I was a kid even though I rarely passed the second level. Feels like a looong time ago now...
Looks like an updated version of zillion 2 on the Sega master system. Which I loved at the time with the mix of levels bike, running and mech.
I will buy this if I can use the code: up up down down...
Is Konami expecting royalties from this?
Ok I love this style of game (got all metal slug games on ps4) and a huge contra fan (probotector in the EU) and certain stages from this game look ripped from super contra and the same goes for animation the wall climb looks identical to SuperC and even the 1 frame look up and down
Hope konami keep there heads in the sand and don't try to Ruin this for old school run n' gun fans
JoyMasher does what konami can't and won't!
Man, I've been waiting for this news for so long! Now if they would only put it on a physical disc...
Haha wow SHAMELESS! Instant buy for me, i was obsessed with contra 3.
