The Spyro: Reignited Trilogy reviews are coming in hot, and things are looking good for the little purple dragon. The game's being praised for its silky smooth controls, lush visuals, and faithful recreation of the original Spyro trilogy. Right now, it sounds like Activision's got another hit of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy proportions on its hands.
IGN - 8.5/10
Toys for Bob has done a great job of filling Spyro’s first three adventures with such reinvigorated life. Worlds a are packed to the brim with more detail, animations are consistently endearing, and the quality of life improvements make revisiting these once analog stick-less platformers a joy to play.
Game Informer - 8.5/10
If you’ve never played these games before, I can’t recommend them enough. From a historical standpoint, you can clearly see the foundation for Insomnaic’s Ratchet & Clank series in each level. As a game, Spyro is a blast to control, and collecting gems is an oddly satisfying thing to do. You’ll watch the credits roll on each game before you know what hit you.
We'll be publishing our own thoughts on Spyro: Reignited Trilogy very soon, but until then, let us know if you're excited for this nostalgia-packed package in the comments section below.

With this and Let's Go Eevee this week, my childhood just got two HD Remasters. So excited.
Glad to hear it. I know I've ragged on this trilogy a lot, but I've still had it pre-ordered for the last five months and I can't wait to play it tonight.
So good to hear they've done these games right. I may get them digitally sometime down the line.
''You’ll watch the credits roll on each game before you know what hit you.''
A high internet bill?
Gah, I'm still not finished playing spider-man ps4 yet and just starting to play red dead 2, with god of war platinum waiting, but the reviews is good...
@KratosMD There's no way in hell activision will bring this to switch using 64gb cartridge, that things is expensive yo.
I have never played any Spyro games before so I'm really excited for this trilogy!Great to hear its getting good scores too.
With my birthday coming up next week I was hoping to get this on the day but knowing the physical copy only has one game on it has totally put me off.Guess I'll be buying this digital at some point.
I actually forgot this game's release date. I've been busy with so much I spaced it off.
I'll get this at some point, there's a lot of stuff I'm looking at.
Can't wait. I just have the post-game credit stuff to do in Dragon Quest 11 and I'll be all ready for this tomorrow.
@KratosMD Maybe if activision can compress it to at least 16gb, I don't think they want to spend money on more expensive cartridge.
@wiiware @KratosMD I’m sure if wouldn’t take up that much space if they really tried. I could be wrong, but it doesn’t scream “effort” to me with an update required to play most of the games.
@KratosMD I’m the same about it, I thought this looked cool until it wasn’t all on the disc. If they at changes I’ll reconsider, but not until then. Honestly, I wish reviews would lower their score because of it.
Really looking forward to revisiting these games, especially after spending the last month playing nothing but open world titles.
Got my copy in the post today. Quite surprised to find that Sanzaru games (developers of Sly Thieves in Time) had a hand in development too.
Though a bit disappointed to find for the EU release they still insist on calling the second game "Ripto's Rage" and not "Gateway to Glimmer" #NotMySpyroHeadCannon
I friend of mine already got the platinum... About 6 hours.
Insomniac's games always seem to hit in the 80's. Always solid even decades later.
If it turns out the disc only has 31GB of data, then this looks really sloppy for Activision.
The 19GB update (rest of the release) could have been on the disc, if they had waited long enough to manufacture this properly.
This whole thing just smells funny.
But ATM, I'm also annoyed with Activision for making the next Diablo game an MMO phone game...
Interesting how reviews ignored the Activision’s practices, also the difference between the scores of this collection and the Crash Bandicoot one when it released. I wonder if it’s because they know that the game is not exclusive this time...
@Broosh Except that Pokemon Let's Go is not an HD remaster of anything.
i will pick this up for $20 from the second hand market. i won't be giving activision my money directly out of principle and the fact the game is not on the disc (a real deal breaker for many people). this does look like a pretty fun time, though!
@andreoni79 all 3 games only take 6 hours to fully complete? what???
@Kindaichi i understand your sentiment... that is why i will pick it up from the second hand market at $20 in a few months time. that is probably the best way to go about it.
@Porco Ah, no. The game has 3 platinums...
@stu123
Wow really? Maybe carrier pigeon would be quicker
@andreoni79 OK, so about 6 hours PER GAME? that sounds more reasonable
Forgive me for being a skeptic, but have Pro support and HDR support been confirmed?
My faith in Activision is at an all-time low recently.
@RogerRoger Thanks mate,it's going to be wild!...(in bed by 9 most probably lol)
@Porco I've never played any Spyro game so I was tempted, but my friend says the game is super easy, especially because it's impossible to miss collectibles... Basically you 100% every game during your first run...
@Tasuki shrug Reimagining of yellow then. I'm not sour about it we got a mainline one coming next year
@Porco @wiiware Ok guys cool it on that kind of discussion. If you wish to discuss that sort of thing you need to take it elseware.
Thanks for understanding
I have never played any of the Spyro games before but this does look pretty good. Tbh, I the look of this more than the Ratchet and Clank games. Might get it at some point.
@RogerRoger hitman 2 requires online? Smh I thought they changed that from the first?
Activision gimped the physical copy and purposely waited till the 11th hour to confirm that the game would ship incomplete (physically)Lol. Pass. I picked up the 3rd and 2nd game for the original ps1 and they fit the bill. If they put all on the switch cart ill look into picking it up. If not I'll pass again.
Not all on disc = no deal. I'll happily play the originals on my pc.
@Tasuki @ShogunRok @get2sammyb When should we expect to see PushSquare's official review posted?
@Useyourname @RoyalGuard @Porco @PS_Nation @GamerDad66 @Jaz007 @Kindaichi I still don't get why people are purposely passing on these amazing remasters/remakes just because you have to download a 20GB patch to unlock the full 2nd and 3rd games.
Only took me 40 minutes to download and now I am happily reliving my childhood and having a blast.
Reignited Trilogy will eventually hit PC but you guys will be probably waiting a year, just like with Crash and the game will be full price on Steam for awhile to boot.
@KidBoruto I will buy this game on PS4, no doubt about that.
I still can't accept the fact that Spyro and Crash are not exclusives of Sony anymore.
@KidBoruto I'm afraid if you don't get it by now you never will. To each his own though. Glad you enjoy. I just don't support anti consumer practices...
@KidBoruto It's live now!
@PS_Nation You don't want more gamers having the chance to experience Spyro and Crash without having to buy a PS4?
Besides both series did switch to other platforms several times, don't you remember the handheld games and the Xbox/Nintendo ports of PS2 games?
@RoyalGuard This is Activision we're talking about, they're not gonna care or change their practices just because a few people boycott by not buying/playing.
All you're doing is missing out on faithfully recreated Spyro remasters done right and given blessing to by Insomniac.
@ShogunRok Thanks looking forward to reading and commenting!
@KidBoruto Crash Bandicoot and Spyro were the mascots of PlayStation during the PS1 era. Exclusives are important for any platform and the gaming industry overall.
PC gamers and many journalists want to push the agenda that exclusives are bad, because they want every game on PC and consoles to fade away. If consoles disappear, single-player games will also disappear, everything will be multiplayer, online, e-sports, etc.
@PS_Nation I've got nothing against exclusives, that's why I love my PS4 and why I'm buying a XB1/Switch eventually.
Just don't think it's the end of the world for a few exclusives to go multiplatform.
@KidBoruto I don't care about downloads, though I understand people with bad internet would.
What I care about is preservation. If I own a physical copy, I expect to own the full game. If the current version PSN gets axed or whatever in the future and my PS4 or hdd dies after that, I can probably never get to parts 2 and 3 anymore.
Example: I had DLC for Splinter Cell Chaos Theory on OG Xbox, then OG Live got shut down, then my harddrive died. I replaced the drive, but my paid for DLC is gone forever.
This network doesn't have eternal life, nor does my PS4, and knowing that Activision made a conscious decision to not go with bigger/more discs, thus ensuring that even the hardcopied software has a much more finite life than it could have, made me decide to not reward them with a purchase.
@Useyourname Do you plan to at least buy this game down the road when it's $10 used?
That way you can still experience the remasters, and more importantly Activision will NOT be getting any of your money.
@KidBoruto I will not. The release is tainted now.
@Useyourname No comment...just know you're missing out on a great remaster of the Spyro games, simply because of your "ideals".
@KidBoruto While it is nice of you to concern yourself with what I am missing out on, when you put the word 'ideals' in double quotes like that, I can't help but get the feeling you don't take me quite as seriously. It feels almost like I offended you in some way by disliking the way this game is released. Do you work for Activision or Toys For Bob? If you don't, I will ask you to respect my "ideals", instead of questioning them when they are not exactly the same as your own, thank you very much.
@Useyourname Sorry, I apologize for taking that too personally earlier. You do have a right to choose whether or not to play the game, regardless of my opinions on your reasoning.
Just a big Spyro fan that is sad some people are choosing to miss out on the remaster, but I can't change your mind and I'm not making it any better by trying to convince you.
Hope you have a great Sunday and sorry for bothering you.
