Activision’s onto a winner with these nostalgia fuelled PSone remakes, as Spyro: Reignited Trilogy has topped the UK sales charts – although Pokémon would have taken the W if you were to combine its multiple editions. This is still an impressive result for the purple dragon, which outpaced Red Dead Redemption 2 and Fallout 76 to take the top spot.
Not only that but the PlayStation 4 commanded 75 per cent of the remake’s retail sales, showing that PlayStation nostalgia very much exists. It’ll be interesting to see how the PlayStation Classic performs on these shores; there’s been some disappointment with the software selection, but it’s clear that the PSone has become big business for Sony in recent years.
Speaking of big business, or the lack thereof, Fallout 76 saw its sales slip an enormous 82.4 per cent compared to Fallout 4 – although it’s worth noting that Chart-Track doesn’t currently include digital data, and the title's online focus may have pushed punters to shop on the PlayStation Store. Nevertheless, it’s not a great result for the multiplayer game.
Similarly disappointing is Hitman 2, which registered a 90 per cent decline compared to Hitman: Absolution's debut, although it’s another outing that may have fared better on digital storefronts. Elsewhere, Fortnite made its first UK sales charts appearance this week with the Deep Freeze Bundle, with sales split evenly across all three major platforms.
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 17th November, 2018
- Spyro: Reignited Trilogy
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- Fallout 76
- Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu
- FIFA 19
- Pokémon Let's Go Eevee
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
- Fortnite: Deep Freeze Bundle
- Mario Kart 8: Deluxe
- Hitman 2

I just wanna go back, back to 1999.
So Pokemon would be Number 1 if not for the following:
Stock issues
Being aimed at week 1 buyers
Being two separate games
Shame the game is still crap.
Spyro though, mm good stuff. But I got both digitally so...I dont count.
Also, Just Dance kinda went bang didn't it?
I think there was a big Just Dance bundle.
Also, Games Industry notes that retailers are expecting Battlefield 5 to be a bust.
@get2sammyb Battlefield 5 came out at a really bad time. Right after Pokemon, with that wweird launch date issue, and long after CoD and Red Dead.
EA once again pulled a TF2, only this time it wasn't on themselves.
Great news for spyro. Disappointed that fallout 76 has done so well, mind i do expect it to drop out of the top ten soon
HOORAY FOR SPYRO 🔥🔥🔥
@suikoden I mean, the retail numbers aren’t great for a Fallout game.
@get2sammyb Sammy great win for England today against Croatia.big daddy Harry Kane.😂is it still coming home playa.word up son
shout out to my pittsburgh Steelers and my Michigan wolverines college basketball team great victories today .word up son
@playstation1995 Nice comeback in the fourth! Worddd up!
That's proof, the UK has good taste!
Really surprised that Spyro topped the charts but for me this is a good thing. Also a single player game with no microtransactions by Activision? Shows you what can happen when publishers put their mind to it.
Spyrooo !! Haha come on buddy !
Kind of a funky chart. FIFA and COD are slipping, and no Ass Cree or GTAV.
@Wesker They'll be back.
Spyro eats dog turds.
@Lando_ This is an exception.
How does Hitman 2 compare to the previous one? I'm guessing it's still not great.
Loving Spyro, been playing it all day. 26% through the second game now, never played it on PS1.
I had to play a half hour of FF9 to relax though. Too many gems collected today, started to feel sick.
@Orpheus79V its a really good hitman game
@Orpheus79V I assume you mean sales? You can't really do a comparison because it launched episodically.
@get2sammyb Ah, I totally forgot about that whole situation.
@Codboy_07 I should've been more specific, I was talking sales wise. The game does look good though.
@get2sammyb RIP Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes
@Knuckles-Fajita Heh... curious if it sold 900K but not even 1M lifetime how would you feel?
Glad to see Spyro doing well, especially with games like Pokemon and Fallout being released around the same time.
@Lando_ I could've told you that, son
Nice, even the mighty red dead 2 and pokemon is no match for spyro
Generally surprised... a good surprise no less.
Spyro is fantastic, playing these games for the first time and already platinumed the first game.
Pokemon being as high as it is is no surprise, and I did end up getting Eevee, so i'm good to go for games for a bit.
@get2sammyb pretty sure Just Dance was bundled in an early Amazon Switch black friday deal with Pokemon for £299.
@playstation1995 For a guy who's always talking about how great our city is you have a weird choice in sports teams. jk Eli had a good day, and St John's might be back this year, though I suppose that's more a Queens team than a NYC team.
Oh, I mostly grew up a Cowboys fan so I get the Steelers thing, and I'm a UK Wildcats fan so I get Michigan too, I was just messin' with ya.
@Wesker I looked over that list 5 times looking for GTAV, my brain just wouldn't accept it wasn't on there.
I'm happy Spyro did so well. I don't have the time to replay them all again, I just did a few years ago anyway, but I'm glad kids games like Spyro and Pokemon did so well.
Got Spyro for Xbox One, it's great so far. I like it so much more than Crash.
Got to wonder whether this will be the last Hitman game. Which would be a shame, but I have to admit I'm not interested in picking up the new one. The last one was just a bit dull, IMO.
@get2sammyb nooooo sammy noooooooooo
Great result for Spyro! I've been thoroughly enjoying it. Completed the first, and now onto Ripto's Rage
@get2sammyb Portugal will destroy you guys
Anyway I'm impressed that Spyro sold so well! But I'm glad it did too...
Spyro the king of dragons. Also easy plats. Pokémon sells better combined. That's because the game has essentially been bought twice. If all three games of spyro had been sold separately then sales of spyro would be around 3 times as much.
I've played some of the Fallout games but haven't fancied fallout 76, why online only? Are the drop in sales of physical copies a reflection of the low demand for the game or a shift in purchasing habits?
Red Dead 2 will probably hang around in the top ten for a while. So glad fifa has fecked off... For now.
@Bamf no, people prefer this over that... plus shortages may manipulate what you buy...
@Mikethemosher Whoa, what's with the random negative comment?
@eltomo
A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one.
The spyro remake is very good, would love to see Syphon Filter remade from the ground up, been far to long since we last saw Gabe Logan imho....
