Perhaps it’s because there’s been no Western confirmation just yet, but it’s surprising just how much Granblue Fantasy: Relink is slipping under the radar. The PlayStation 4 exclusive action RPG – which is being developed by industry sweetheart Platinum Games – has been demoed in intricate detail as part of Cygames’ Granblue Fantasy Fes 2018 event, and it’s looking pretty great.
While the title is based upon a smartphone series, this looks a far cry from the gacha nonsense it’s inspired by. There’s a trailer embedded above which introduces the cast and characters, but it’s the gameplay footage that you’ll want to feast your eyes on, showcasing the character action combat and slick visuals. It genuinely looks really, really good.

Very impressive.
Looks like a polished Tales game
Beautiful and I really love platinum so this can't come out soon enough.
For a JRPG it looks really good. About time they started to look good apart from Square games.
@RawnDawn 100% agree it's terrible Square is basically the only one producing AAA jrpg, I would love to have more variety.
The GB Fantasy versus fighting game by Arc Sys is so looking really good.
I wonder if this game would be any bit popular outside of Japan...
You had me at Platinum Games.
@Feena I really want the Legends of Heroes to be as good looking as Square games because I prefer the story from them than that of Square.
this is very nice looking!
altough i do hope for english dubs when this comes to the west.
I want this game so bad. It looks super awesome.
I do remember reading about localization being announced, though?
@Derpie1 It’ll find its audience if it’s as good as it looks, I think.
@Tsurii How reductive. 10 points to you.
Nice, looks like it's right up my alley. Hoping this makes it out in the west.
@RawnDawn I love legend of heroes and yes, even if I don't typically play jrpgs for the story, those have a very slow-burner, well constructed ones!
Gawd dayium! Looks great. But I also honestly doubt that such games are going to sell well on the more and more 'americanized' PS4. :-/
This looks great. Keeping my eye on this one.
Wow, looks really fun, thnx for putting this on my radar.
@Lando_ this term again?
the ps4 is still home to lot's of JRPG's and that won't change.
just because most AAA exclusives are western games doesn't mean that the console is leaving the asian market behind. it was always a console that catered to both worlds. it's mostly because of ps4 and it's players that shenmue is getting a third game and that the yakuza games are getting attention in the west.
also 1 of the biggest upcoming exclusives is about historical japan.
(and please don't bring up that censorship arument since that is far to complex for it to be an argument)
Looks brill.
Looks brill.
Had to say it twice or I get told off by the pop up window.
looks amazing.word up son
@Lando_ Yeah because franchises like Yakuza, Persona, and Monster Hunter haven't set sales records on the 'Americanized' PS4 after all.
If NieR: Automata showed me one thing, it's that Platinum combat can work brilliantly for RPG's. I'm pretty optimistic about this one.
(Watches video intently)
.........Yep. I'm in. I'm in deep. Like, balls deep.
@jdv95 @get2sammyb
I just hope that both of you are right then. To be completely honest, I don't care about the typical big selling blockbusters like CoD, FIFA, GTA... Those Japanese games are what still keeps me playing the PS4. Should the console turn into a second Xbox One, I'm gonna think about stopping to play videogames at all. No, I don't think about changing to the effin Switch.
How are you so sure about those games reaching sales records though? All I read in the print media or hear on YouTube are rants about Japanese games selling worse than expected on Sony's consoles and that the Switch would be sooo much better as a platform for games like P5, DQ XII, etc.; kinda pisses me off, but maybe there is some truth hidden here?
Looking good, it's like big budget tales games with nier automata gameplay but with great graphics
The game look's gorgeous. Been keeping my eye on this for quite sometime now. Hopefully, they'll confirm it for the West soon.
Very impressive-looking, and being a Platinum game I expect some solid action goodness, which it certainly seems to have based on the video.
me want! me horny!
Nowadays I prefer western action RPGs over Japanese action RPGs but this does look pretty good. The fact that it's by PlatinumGames is a bonus because Nier: Automata was super.
Seems like there's actual physics and stuff going on in the overworld, not many RPGs have that. Looks very polished because of it. Keeping an eye on it for sure!
this is THE GAME I am waiting for
Sekiro looks cool and all - but THIS IS THE BIG ONE
@Lando_ Just like any game, it has its audience. Those "Youtubers" you talk about only say that because for them, it's easier to play on switch because they can be everywhere which is nice and all but I personally and I'm sure many others still like to play on the big screen. Again, it's all about the audience and if the devs can release on both PS4 and Switch, than it's great because they'll get more funding for their next game, etc.
Have any Cygames ever released anything outside Japan?
WOW!... Platinum Games is at it again!
Dammit Platinum Games, stop being after my wallet.
This looks really nice. For some reason the boss reminds me of Manaya from TERA.
@Ryall Wondership Q
The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls: Viewing Resolution
Anubis: Zone of the Enders — M∀RS
That's it for now besides Granblue.
Dont be a plonker @Lando_ , Asia has mad records on PS4 in 2018 ... you’ve got your head about 5 years back ... and, even then, it was only popularity and opinion not an actual lack of quality.
Right now western, full price, game development is in the pits. Only a few bastions of good practice seem to remain. Asia is more popular than ever.
