While the PlayStation Classic met our expectations by delivering a jolt of nostalgia earlier this month, it made a lot of people very angry indeed. In fact, it doesn’t seem like it’s sold anywhere near as well as it should have, meaning that retailers are beginning to clear stock. So if you too would like to make your own YouTube video about how mad the micro-console makes you, may we recommend you purchase one for less than $60/£50 right now:

Seriously, sloppy emulation and inexplicable PAL code aside, we reckon the diddy device is well worth that price. Like, it’s pretty fun if you keep your expectations aligned. Blasphemy, we know!

Not surprised one bit.
Just a bit more and then it’ll FINALLY be worth it!
That's what sony get for trying to sells console with "classic" games like ps1 rainbow six, 2D rayman, and 2D gta. Make a disappointment machine, get a disappointment sales. Snes classic is way better product, at least nintendo cares about the console and not putting some random games there.
Sony could make a survey for top 10 most wanted ps1 games and put it in the console rather than randomly pick cheap license like rainbow six and 2D rayman, I don't think there's people clamoring that games.
@wiiware it’s more a case of Sony using these IPs from the modern day to advertise the system like “Do you like Grand Theft Auto, or do you like Rainbow Six Seige? Well try out the OG Rainbow Six?” Some games don’t scream classic but some games fit Sony’s agenda while also being... classic... but some choices are more for attempting for diversity and such but they are questionable.
I'd say that price is about right and probably where it should have been to begin with.
£50 is perfect impulse buy territory where as most people will see £90 as a little pricey. Had the price been £50 to start with I'm pretty confident I wouldn't have cancelled my pre order
They also had an offer on Amazon in the US to get it for $75 with a $25 gift card. Then it got lowered even more.....
I just received one for Christmas anyway...
@Derpie1 The target market for this product is for the people that bought ps1 when they're still young, so the games included must have nostalgic value, that's why it's so disappointing sony just put a random games in there.
With a bit more care and a custom emulator, not to mention a far better selection of games none of which should ever be PAL, particularly on a modern TV and this could have been a must own. Missing the likes of Castlevania, Crash, Medevil, Spyro and Tomb Raider but having Rainbow Six and that god awful GTA game, you could also argue it should have had the vastly superior Resident Evil 2 instead of the original. Overall its just disappointing, even more so when Nintendo has just shown them how to do it well although they do have the advantage of owning their biggest games from those systems. As it is I may still get one just for decorative purposes because the physical object is very appealing
@carlos82
Go wash your mouth out with Soap and Water.... That GTA game was amazing, I'd still rather play that than GTA 5 lol
@Marios-love-child haha to be fair so would I 😂
I will say I had some fun with GTA London when you drive onto the pitch at Wembley to kill the football players, best FIFA game ever 😉
The trouble is unlike Nintendo which has a clear hierarchy of games that pretty much everyone knows what the classics are. When it comes to PlayStation the breadth of games mean no 2 people will choose the same games, short of having an open system that you can download you own personal top 25 games from a store. I don't think anything signed off by committee would work.
@carlos82
If it wasn't for the fact I already own this :
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Grand-Theft-Auto-Collectors-London/dp/B000093FQ9/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1545814347&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=gta+collectors+edition&dpPl=1&dpID=413FS6NRPJL&ref=plSrch
I'd have no doubt bought the ps classic for gta alone but £90 seemed a little steep for something I can easily play on my ps3.
There's a simplicity that I love about the original gta games and the new ones can sometimes feel a little over complicated and realistic. When you have to go eat and get your haircut etc it feels more of a chore to me and takes away the enjoyment of the game
Maybe if it was £10. Maybe.
@MadAussieBloke I might have to look into that, it's getting a bit expensive getting the games on disc
Ouch. That's gotta hurt for people that might've dropped nearly £100 on them just a week or so ago.
I'm waiting to see if the modding community can properly fix the issues and maybe it gets a bit cheaper too.
@carlos82 what's the point in adding spyro when they've just released the remaster. Do them more harm than good.
You can still get a pi cheaper
@daveofduncan why? I'd argue they are 2 different markets with potential customers not even owning a PS4 whilst many like having both the original and a remake. Then you have the Resident Evil Remake, Abe's remake, FFVII and a remake apparently coming on ps4.
Lol, this thing is such a piece of trash.
@hotukdeals What's a PI?
I agree with @gingerfrog - the massive selection of games from the PS1 era works against Sony with this, as you're never going to please enough people with a fixed list of games. A lot of the games people have said should be on there wouldn't interest me at all.
Contrast that with the SNES Mini, where - while they've never appealed to me in the slightest - basically everyone who loves Nintendo also loves everything they ever created, so they can't really go wrong.
That being said, even if PS Classic had contained every single game I loved on the PS1, I still wouldn't have bought it. I just can't go back to them now. As great as they were for the time, they're just too hard on the eyes these days.
@wiiware while yes the target market is nostalgia I think Sony randomly was thinking
“What are some current big names we can use that people know from PS4?” basically they also want those who bought a PS4 to make have thier 👀 to possibly look into this... it works well for Nintendo since thier audience loves nostalgia (to an extent) if you look at the particular indie games that sold well on Switch (they’re callbacks/pokes to the past... particularly the NES/SNES era with some additions [although I’m sure those indie games did fine enough on PlayStation]) and the success of the NESC/SNESC. Ofc on the PlayStation Classic there is some classic games but there’s also obscure games as well or tone deaf choices...
@Ryall
My condolences
Updated with Amazon.com!
@get2sammyb Hey Sammy, PS Plus games for January have been announced on PS Blog: Steep and Portal Knights for PS4
If it was a better product, Sammy, it would've sold better. It's got some nostalgic value, but Sony neutered it before it even had a chance.
Do something right without cutting corners, or don't do it at all.
@Paranoimia
"basically everyone who loves Nintendo also loves everything they ever created,"
That couldn't be any more untrue.
@EVIL-C Well, it's certainly the impression I've got whenever I've dared criticise anything Nintendo on the internet.
@Paranoimia I love them and don't hide the fact, but personally I criticize all my favourite brands for their individual BS.
Don't really get the hate for the PS Mini, I bought one just for the nostalgia factor and love it. Yes I would have picked some different games but that's not my choice and no doubt mine wouldn't have been the same as a lot of other peoples so instead of whinging about it I enjoy what's there. I've been a gamer from the early 80's and yes I can download roms like most but these mini consoles hit a spot with me that isn't the same as downloading to my pc or any other device that I can play them on because it's a bit of fun and not overly expensive even at the the original retail price. Our whole industry is based on having fun and being entertained but instead we all like to complain if the product doesn't match our EXACT needs rather than enjoying the bits that we do enjoy. For a bunch of people that just want to have fun playing games we come across as self entitled t**us when we don't get our own way. Only my thoughts and happy to receive the criticism coming my way 😁
@AdamNovice its a ps 3.14 of course!
