PlayStation Network is offline, and Sony engineers are currently wielding fire extinguishers in an attempt to put out the flames. While the issues don’t appear to be affecting absolutely everyone, this sounds like a fairly widespread outage, with a vast majority of players affected. Remember when this used to happen every other day?
To be fair to the Japanese giant, these kinds of issues are usually resolved rapidly these days, so we’d expect things to be fixed fairly quickly. We’ll of course update you in this article should any major developments occur, but for the time being, may we suggest heading to the Winchester and waiting for this all to blow over. (Yes, we’ve used that line already today – but it’s a good one.)
Update (21:30): And it's back. Told you they fix it fast these days, didn't we?

@Spectra "Back in my day..."
They really need to tape down that power line they have running across the floor

That's my second favorite quote from any Simon pegg, nick frost film after the very simple "jog on" from hot fuzz
Never noticed any issue, but nice that Sony has been doubling their efforts to resolve these issues.
