Recently, rumours have been swirling that the maligned online multiplayer title Fallout 76 will be made free-to-play. This all seems to have stemmed from a short supply of the game in Australian stores, which is a rocky basis for such a rumour anyway. Still, the word spread, and as always, fans were whipped into a frenzy.
Fortunately, Bethesda has stepped in to straighten out the story. A Fallout 76 player voiced his concern on Twitter, saying if the game went free-to-play, they'd want their money back. The publisher responded, simply denying that the troubled title will be adopting this payment model.
It doesn't get much more straightforward than that: Fallout 76 isn't going free-to-play, and the rumour is bogus.
Are you still playing Fallout 76? Are you relieved to hear that the game won't be adopting the free-to-play method? Step out of the vault in the comments below.

I wouldn't even play it if it was free to be honest. In fact, even if Bethesda paid ME I still wouldn't play it!
@Deadcow I wouldn't play it if it was free, the beta completely put me off
Maybe won't go free to play but will be discounted regularly, like ESO. I'll play it when it's 7 or 8 quid...in a few years like I did with ESO
Well...after the bad news about the game...
I would always welcome a demo.
Anyways, i still keep playing my Fallout 4 copy.
There's no truth to the rumour that players will receive 500 Atoms when it goes free to play
They would have to pay me to play it.
I don't think I would even have bothered playing it if it had gone free to play.
Life is too precious to waste on Fallout 76.
All of a sudden in a few months we see an article saying the game is free-to-play now.
They're already using a free to play microtransactions model. Awful.
Wouldn’t play this even if it was F2P. Better games to play.
Maybe not f2p... but ps+??
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi any game that uses microtransactions, lootboxes or any form of money grabbing, should be free honestly and they have no right charging full retail price.
I'd probably give it a go, the big Fallout fanboy that I am. But I'd go out of my way to avoid any contact whatsoever with other players. I'd wander around the world for a bit listening to the in-game radio, then it'd probably get deleted.
as john inman would say are you free
Me: "I heard you're revamping this game to be a fun, fully realized game in the Fallout franchise, featuring branching dialogue paths and interesting NPC characters to give life to the wasteland!"
Bethesda: "There is no truth to this rumor."
