There’s been strong speculation for some time that Sony is working on some kind of Demon’s Souls remake or remaster, although nothing’s ever been made official. That said, it sounds like original director and current FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki is not opposed to the idea – as long as another studio were to do the heavy lifting.
Speaking with Game Informer, the industry icon explained that he’s proud of his work on the PlayStation 3 exclusive, but he prefers to look forward. “If it was a studio that really loved the original work and really put their heart and soul into realising it again, then that’s something I would enjoy,” he said.
He continued: “Thinking about the idea of a remaster gives me kind of butterflies in my stomach and makes me a little nervous, so it’s complicated. But I understand there are many users and many players and fans out there who really love Demon’s, so if that’s something they could accomplish with a studio that loved the work, then yeah, I’d be okay with that.”
The theory is that Bluepoint, the team behind last year’s incredible Shadow of the Colossus remake, may be turning its attention to Demon’s Souls next – although it’s all just conjecture and forum hearsay at this stage. It did post a job listing for a character artist who would be required to create armour and weapon assets, but that could mean anything, couldn’t it?

Bluepoint! Please make this happen. Especially if you are not working on an ICO Remaster currently which would also be great...
I feel like this is probably in development. Miyazaki putting on his best poker face.
Makes you wonder what Bluepoint has been working on. They told Eurogamer early last year that they were working on another remaster that was bigger in scope than Shadow of the Colossus. Thought for sure it was this. Now I’m even more excited not knowing what they have in the works- but whatever it is I’m sure it will be phenomenal with their track record.
This is the only game in this franchise that I haven't played yet. I'd be interested in this.
Bluepoint will definitely handle well the remaster of Demon’s Souls.
Btw, it’s crazy that games like Uncharted 2, Demon’s Souls and Arkham Asylum will be 10 years old this year. Time flies...
@PS_Nation Oh don’t. 🤦♂️
@Nerdfather1 yeah same here. I would love to be able to play it on ps4.
Not played Demon Souls as I never owned a PS3 so I would go kra if this turned out to be true. I believe it when I see it though. Along with Bloodborne 2 lol.
I'd be so, so happy if this turned out to be true. If Bloodborne 2 happened as well then I think I'd pretty much be set for the foreseeable future.
I hope they put more work into this one.
The Dark Souls remaster was OK.
But I want a "Shadow of Colossus" type job
Has to be bluepoint.
Has it ever been rumored what they are working on that is not a demon souls remake?
I expect this to be their project.
Fantastic to complete the collection i hope they are remaking the game.
It's the only souls game I haven't played so this if true would be great news but I'm not holding my breath
While I'd love to see this happen, there are a few things that do stick out.
Has anyone else played it lately? If you've played any other souls game it's immediately apparent that they were finding their feet with this one.
It's good, don't get me wrong, but the systems and combat aren't a patch on DS1 onwards. The world tendencies in particular are obtuse to the point of being unnoticeable, and some of the areas are a bit of a slog.
While it could be cleaned up graphically and have some gameplay elements easily changed, would that not run the risk of alienating the initial fans of the game completely? Change too much and it'll feel too different. Too little and it'll feel too dated.
If bluepoint are working on this- and I really hope they are- then they face a really difficult task here. Still, if anyone can pull it off it's them!
@Weegee71 depending on how big a fan of the series you are, you can pick up a PS3 and a copy of the game for about the same price as a new AAA release. For a souls fan it's totally worth it, but just be aware (if you weren't already) that the servers are off now so it may feel a little empty.
Personally, I like not having the online element sometimes. It reinforces the whole "staggering odds" deal, but if you want the true experience then it's sadly long gone.
I still hope Bluepoint are currently smashing out the Syphon Trilogy.
I really hope this is a thing
I would love it, haven't got this game on ps3 at the time.....but this time could nail it.
I Hear of the game .
