He’s appeared in, like, three scenes, but there’s no doubt Lan Di is one of gaming’s greatest villains. After ruthlessly murdering Iwao Hazuki in the opening scene of Shenmue, protagonist Ryo has been in search of revenge ever since. He’ll come one step closer in long-awaited sequel Shenmue III, and we know that the mysterious martial artist will put in an appearance.

There’s been some bad art released for Shenmue III, but the project does finally appear to be coming together, and this character render looks spot on to us. The chief of the Chi You Men is looking a little younger in this image, but he’s still more or less exactly as we’d envisage him. This screen gets bonus points for the intricately detailed background, which is lovely.
