Activision's studio Beenox might not be a widely known developer, but it looks to be doing splendid work on Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. A new trailer has appeared, and it's gotten us all nostalgic for the classic PSone kart racer.
By the sound of it, the development team is excited to be bringing the game back in similar fashion to Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. Speaking on the PlayStation Blog, production director Stéphane Gravel says the studio aims to hit a balance between a nostalgic feel and more modern bells and whistles: "It was important for us to stay true to [the original Crash Team Racing], while of course updating it to today’s graphical standards. It’s the best of both worlds – you have a great game and you are able to make it look as beautiful as possible. That’s something we are very proud of."
He continues: "We played a lot of Crash Team Racing. Taking notes, finding opportunities where we can improve on that game, where possible. Mostly – towards the fact that it’s been 20 years – things have evolved a lot." It sounds like Nitro-Fueled is getting the same care and attention to detail as Activision's other retro remakes.

Looks absolutely superb.
Man, I can't wait.
One of my most hyped releases of the year.
That looks really good.
Best kart racer of the 8th generation, calling it now.
Mario might have some competition now. Certainly not in sales, but in quality of gameplay at least.
I know what I'm about to say will be considered sacrilege by fans of the original, but as someone who didn't really play it much back in the day, it looks...OK? The tracks and racers themselves seem a bit dull - I'm sure they're great fun to race on but when you compare to the tracks in MK8 Deluxe or even Sonic Racing Transformed, they really do seem a little generic.
I'm sure it'll live up to the original, and gameplay is king, but by modern standards it just seems to be a little lacking, IMO. But as I say I don't really know the original that well so I'm quite happy to be proven wrong.
@Tsurii fair enough. However, my statement comes from my subjective experience with and opinion of OG CTR: no kart racer I've played since then has come close to the fun I had with that game, and I hope that the new version will be even better, not only in graphics, but control and gameplay as well. MK8 may very well be better than CTR, but I've not had a Wii U or a Switch to play it on. As for Sonic Team Racing, well, I'm hoping the development team can pull it together to make it great.
Crash Team Racing was always better than Mario Kart
If I do get this it would probably be the Switch version so I could play at work on my breaks. My home console time is very limited these days, and there are a ton of other PS4 games higher up on my wish list. If the MK mobile game is any good, I may go that route to scratch my kart racer itch, and save a buck.
Looks great, can't wait to play it on my pro
@Tsurii cheers!
The game continues to look good
