So it turns out that there are a lot of people working on Cyberpunk 2077. Speaking to Polish publication StockWatch -- as translated by TechSpot -- CD Projekt Red's investor relations director Karolina Gnaś says that over 400 developers are currently working on the gritty sci-fi RPG.
To put things in perspective, the maximum number of employees who worked on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt at any one time was around 250 people, so it's safe to say that Cyberpunk 2077 is a very ambitious project.
Despite the fact that the developer has been consistently adding to its workforce over the last three years or so, there was some concerned speculation over creative director Sebastian Stepien's departure from CD Projekt Red, which we reported on just a couple of weeks back.
However, Gnaś reckons that "[Stepien's] departure does not affect the pace of work on our latest title in any way". It could well be that Stepien had simply finished up his role on the game after all, although we're sure that the speculation will continue regardless.
It's still difficult to estimate when Cyberpunk 2077 will be finished, but given the growing manpower behind it right now, it's clearly moving forward. With any luck, we'll see more of it as we move further into 2019.

2020 releases
So it will definitely be a cross gen title. I don’t know if ill wait for the Ps5 version or not.
I will not wait. I will buy it the second it is available.
@Splat Ditto. If the PS5 does do backwards compatibility it will be interesting if they offer a patch to upgrade it or release a whole separate version. I'd probably pay for either.
With this many employees you would think it increases the odds they can get it out this year.
2020 confirmed.word up son
Here day frigging one, could well be a dream game for me.
Cyberpunk2077 and Dreams is all I am waiting for.
I will settle for the Forest till then.
Somebody call Trauma Team, this game is gonna blow my mind!
With Mike Pondsmith on board and from CDPR past I don't think we have anything to worry about the direction of CyberPunk 2077.

@BearsEatBeets @Splat DOUBLE DIP!
CD Projekt Red seem to have taken a leaf out of Rockstar’s book - take ages to release a new game, but when it does you know it will be pure quality.
I am definitely waiting for this! On a side note, with these numbers and the crunch rumors I just hope they drop the whole "holier than thou" attitude when comparing themselves to other publishers.
@ShogunRok It wouldn't be the first time, TLOU, GTA 5 and Tomb Raider all managed to get me to do it.
I seem to be the only one who thinks this will come out at the end of this year.
@BearsEatBeets If Cyberpunk 2077 launches in 2019 people are going to lose their minds. I suppose it is possible — we don't really know how close to completion it is.
@ShogunRok It's all total speculation on everyone's part really. The reasons I'm leaning towards the end of this year relate to news a little while ago that the game was playable from start to finish. I know that doesn't mean it just needs bug fixing/polish but can also still need loads of art assets/animation/sounds and balancing and stuff to happen. Given that they have these 400 employees, being able to finish that within 12 months seems reasonable.
Also they mentioned before about not wanting to start releasing info on the game until it was close to finish and a 2020 release would have it coming out 2 years after that E3 reveal.
Anyway, I'm probably clutching at straws and don't mind when it comes out. I'm reassured they will only release it when they are totally happy with it.
The one thing of which I am certain is that it will be worth the wait.
Based on the numerous patches it got to get The Witcher running properly on PS4 it really just makes sense to wait on this game and get it when it’s inevitably patched up.
@ShogunRok for like 5 minutes. Then they'll be obsessed with the new shinny thing.
'Member The Last Guardian hype? I 'member.
It is still difficult to estimate when this RPG will be finished.
