Konami might not be in everyone's good books, but the company has been around for a very long time. This year marks its 50th anniversary, and to celebrate, the publisher has announced a trio of legacy collections coming to PS4 in 2019.
The first to arrive will be Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection, a pack that includes eight of Konami's 80s arcade titles. It's due for release on 18th April, priced $19.99. Here's the list of games you'll find in this collection:
- Haunted Castle
- Life Force (Salamander)
- Nemesis (Gradius)
- Scramble
- Thunder Cross
- TwinBee
- Typhoon (A-Jax)
- Vulcan Venture (Gradius II)
Konami has also announced Castlevania Anniversary Collection, which is due in "early summer". This will include the original Castlevania, Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge, Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, and Super Castlevania, as well as four others yet to be announced.
Lastly, Contra Anniversary Collection has been confirmed. It's also pegged for early summer, and some of the included games have been announced: Contra, Super Contra, Super C, and Contra III: The Alien Wars. Again, more games will be unveiled nearer launch.
Konami also says the Arcade Classics collection will come with an eBook "packed with new information about the titles, including interviews with the development staff, behind-the-scenes insights, and sketches and design documents never before revealed to the public." Presumably, this will be the case for all three.

Not much of a retro gamer, I'd love a functioning Silent Hill HD collection, with The Room included though, that'd be so dope šŖ
Just this pop up on fb.
Nice collections. Totally up for Contra and Castlevania.
Hopefully they'll get a combined physical release at some point.
The original Castlevania was the first video game I've ever played and it has a very special place in my heart. I'll definitely buy it.
If this is how they celebrate 50 years, I'd hate to go to the Konami Christmas party.
@Amusei if they put it out as PS2 classics on PS4 I'd be happy
I'd kill for a Dawn/Aria of Sorrow PS4 or Switch port.
Sounds kinda neat, but Iād rather buy one game that includes all those games together. Splitting the games into different collections may cause some gamers to buy each of āem, but it may cause me to hold off and not buy any of āem.
@NintendoFan4Lyf I will be confused if they release SotN and Rondo on the other consoles as well but again I want them on everything.
I doubt that Konami will do it but then again it is Konami and they are "Miserable little pile of sh ā¦ secrets".
Couldn't they have just bundled them all together?
The developer interviews should be interesting "After finishing Contra 2 I was made to clean the toilets because the company found a personal email where I was upset at the work schedule. And my name was taken from the credits. I was then made to work on slot machines for the rest of my career".
Pretty neat-o. Not sure I'd get any of the collections personally, but it's nice for anyone that wants them on the PS4.
No Konami collection is complete without the 80's/90's TMNT games. Forget expired licencing deals - sign new ones to make it happen.
@NintendoFan4Lyf That is why for me the best way to play SOTN is again on the PSP but the PS1 version
I think I can sell my NES / SNES mini consoles if I get these... only really wanted them for Castlevania!
Castlevania one sounds alright
@Robinsad Yes! But they lost the source code, so I doubt we'll ever see it happen, which is why the HD collection was such a buggy mess, it's basically the beta version of the games plus different voice actors for whatever reason. They totally butchered it, such a shame.
Absolutely will be buying the Castlevania ones, the only game from the series Iāve really played was Aria of Sorrow on Wii U eShop and I really enjoyed it. I guess it comes down to how they split the games. They say this is the āfirstā Castlevania collection, so I wonder if theyāll do one collection with platformers and one collection with Metroid-like games.
Also I hope for Contra Rebirth to be on there now that the Wii Shop Channel is dead. My brother and I still quote that gameās stupid-ass lines, it was amazing.
give me contact hard core.for the sega genesis.anyway good on nonsmokers.word up son
I definitely getting the contra collection
nice I lšve contra.one of the hardest game ever made.word up son
I might pick up the Contra one.
How about, for their 50th anniversary, they release PES 2020 with no bugs, issues, micro-transactions, new modes, modern UI, new commentary and more licenses.
That would be a real gift!
Had Castlevania 1&2 on Game Boy. Not sure it'd be the same on PS4. Mildly interesting but definitely a sale purchase if at all. Why do no retro collections include racing games?
I'm curious to see which Castlevania games will be added. If the GBA games are included, it's a no brainer purchase for me. The more Castlevania the better.
Castlevania 3 and Super on a disc that's special.
Getting all of em. More excited for the Castlevania collection though.
Been wanting to fully jump into Castlevania, so I might get that collection. Only game I've had for the longest time was Castlevania Chronicles for PS1.
This is pretty awesome. Basically the PS4 is getting a handful of NES and SNES games. Some classics too! Only took about 30 years.
Wish they made a Suikoden Collection With all 5 games
Is it better to get the Castlevania collection on PS4 or Switch?
I'll be getting these collections, but on Switch for mobility. Go ahead and down vote away, PS trolls. š
I have gradius, and the sequel along with salamander already via arcade archives. Have they binned that now?
@Amusei now that would be awesome
I'd buy them all but if there DLC's i'd have zero interest... Im the type of guy that says "if I cant hold it... it's not mine"
Hope the Contra collection includes the Genesis game
Looking forward for Castlevania and Contra. Iām like a child again
Mmmmm. Castlevania. Day one buy
These newer retro bundles are getting more stingy.
PS2/PS3 sets were better in this regard.
Bundles for Atari, Activision, Taito, Sega had huge # of games.
Now we get only 8 arcade games for $20 (?), wait for a sale..
@playstation1995 Contra Shattered soldier and Gradius V. Word to your mother š
Super contra ... And... Super C ...? Same thing isnt it? I was obsessed with contra growing up but i dont remember a super contra, just super C on nes
@DualWielding I know right .that genesis game was my favorite contra.word up son
@OGGamer sega genesis contra hard corps best contra game ever word up son
konami can't even release a compilation right... what are they good for anymore? they are going to charge us $60 for 24 games, many of which are not even noteworthy? give me a break. o yea, no retail release either... eh, whatever. it's not like i will ever give that company another dime anyways.
