You can’t beat a good ol’ Olympics game, can you? While license holder SEGA may have skipped Rio 2016, it’s looking to build upon the likeable London 2012 with Olympic Games Tokyo 2020: The Official Video Game. Due out this summer in Japan and next year in the West, the title appears to feature a host of disciplines, including baseball, football, volleyball, BMX, basketball, and the usual roster of track and field events.
The title will be accompanied by a slew of Mario & Sonic titles, but naturally they’ll be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch – although there is an arcade version due out in Japan as well. This generation has generally been pretty starved of arcade sports games, so we’re all over this new Tokyo 2020 title – let’s hope it can channel the spirit of the Dreamcast’s criminally overlooked Virtua Athlete 2K.

This looks awful and incredible all at the same time. I'm all over this.
@get2sammyb My thoughts exactly. Nothing like a semi-broken hot mess to play with friends over a few beers.
@get2sammyb Did they get the licensing back for Mario and Sonic? I heard that they lost the licensing which is why they didn't do a Mario and Sonic 2018.
This will be terrible!
Day one purchase for me
London 2012 was hilarious, let hope this is more of the same
@Tasuki Sega lost the license to the Winter Olympics to Ubisoft, hence why there was no Mario and Sonic 2018 Winter Olympics game and why this exists.

Sega still hold the rights to the Summer Olympics though.
Looks like someone pulled the Wii out of the closet and dusted it off.
@Tasuki As pointed out, Winter Olympics is the issue.
I had Athens 2004 on Ps2 and enjoyed the hell out of that game, but these types of games all have the same problem--- they're just glorified button mashers. Hopefully some more intuitive controls will be introduced.
@get2sammyb @Slasher Ah ok I thought it was both Summer and Winter.
Never going to be as good as Daley Thompson's Decathlon.
I was tempted by the title, but it looks horrible, and focused on mobile gaming - something I might appreciate in my next life, perhaps not
@daldrum, 4 different games are announced in the trailer, with the mobile game being separate from the console & arcade games.
A echo a previous commenter - it's no Daley Thompson's Decathlon. But ever since that legendary game, track and field based games have always been great fun.
Not sure Konami are going to be happy with the likeness of Philip Coutinho in the football game there! Isn't he one of the cover stars on PES 2019?
Is that football part if this athletics game? Seems like they are throwing the kitchen sink at it and including EVERYTHING!
