Sony has no shortage of dormant intellectual properties these days, but we reckon Ape Escape would sit somewhere near to the top of fans' most requested list. The last mainline entry in the series launched almost 15 years ago on the PlayStation 2, while there have been various spin-offs on the PlayStation Portable and – most recently – the PlayStation Move.
But with the series about to celebrate its 20th anniversary in May, the franchise’s Japanese homepage has been refreshed for the first time in almost a decade. There’s no meaningful new information on the site, so if you were hoping for some kind of game announcement then sit tight. Could this sudden makeover pave the way for future news, though? Watch this space.

Probably be a notice that the websites online services will be shutdown in 2020 or something
Ape Escape VR
Bluepoint anyone?
@Octane Ha!
@NintendoFan4Lyf I had the first one, liked it - never bothered with any others.
@Octane @NintendoFan4Lyf A re-release would most likely be what they did with PaRappa. Here's the PSP version, emulated, better textures: Enjoy.
They could also argue catching monkeys in nets is some kind of animal abuse or something to do with animal testing.
I think Bluepoint's talents are better spent elsewhere anyway, their next game doesn't have to be a Sony IP after all.
One of my first games back on PS1... I really hope there's some incoming new game news for this, re-release or brand new game is all good for me.
@Knuckles-Fajita that... that 🔥... man...
Man I'd love a new App Escape been far too long Sony really need to start using there older stuff
In the shadows is Sega plotting the grand return of Super Monkey Ball.
Please. An actual, normal PS4 game this time.
Unfortunately, I get the sense it's going to be a PSVR game, like the last one was a PS Move game.
I'd love a new Ape Escape done to a graphical level like the recent Ratchet & Clank remake.
I'd love to get another Ape Escape game similar to the first 3 games.
I'm not getting my hopes up - at best it will be port of PSP version of Ape Escape 1.
I like these jokes taking the piss out of Sony's prudish ways. They never get old.
That's not sarcasm by the way.
@NintendoFan4Lyf Various organisations such as PETA believe Pokemon is animal abuse too, or satanic.
So you know, I'm not saying Ape Escape would get that because it's Sony. I'm saying it would get that because it's catching lab monkeys in a freaking net.
Ape escape 1-3 remaster by bluepoint games, plus ape escape 4 by japan studios here we go
Please give us a new game, ape gods!
@SegaBlueSky +1 +1 +1
Next State of Play!!!
@SoulChimera yes!!
@wiiware yes!!
lol funny enough i have been playing ape escape 2 on my old ps2 as of late. great game. great fun. a classic.
@NintendoFan4Lyf The Pokemon outrage was pre-internet. Stupid aint new lets say that...
I'm not expecting anything from this, but a new game would be nice to have.
I’m still waiting for Ape Escape 3 on PS4.
Oh god yes please !!! i adore the Ape Escape games, a new game in the series is well overdue, i would be over the moon if we finally got a new game in the series that is just a continuation of the first three games. Mind you, we still haven't got the third game on PS4 yet, which sucks as its the best one i think.
@get2sammyb Your title should have been "Fans Are Aping Out" lol.
@TowaHerschel7 D'oh!
I WANT TO CATCH MORE APES!!! LOVED Ape Escape games. So funny they were + Monkey Football was soooooooooooo much FUN to.
Please let this be a god sign, Ape Escape 4 is very overdue.
The first blew my mind as a 10 year old kid. ANALOGUE STICKS?! WHAT IS THIS MADNESS? Loved it. the 3rd was crap though.
@Flaming_Kaiser That comment was unnecessary and has nothing to do with the article at hand as per community

Thank you for understanding
@SoulChimera I created this account just to like your comment.
After 6 years I finally know where my psn profile picture is from. Apparently its an ape from ape escape. Who knew.
This somehow bypassed me. I must have spent too much time on Silent Hill.
