Sony has been working on the PlayStation 5 for the past four years, meaning that work got underway at some point in 2015 – little over a year after the PlayStation 4 launched. According to a new Wired article, the system is not being built as a “mere upgrade” like, say, the PS4 Pro before it. Instead, the manufacturer wants to fundamentally change “what a game can be”.
The good news is that the PS5 is being designed within the same architecture as the PS4, which means that it will sport full backward compatibility with the console maker’s current unit. But it will be bringing some bold and innovative new features to the fray, such as ray tracing, 3D audio, and a super-fast SSD drive. The device is not due out this year, and will likely drop in 2020.

with 3Daudio i am expecting new sony headsets right?
@jdv95 I'm sure they will have new official headphones specifically designed to make the most of PS5's capabilities, yes.
Now that I think about it, this news isn’t completely out of the blue.
Sony’s year end financials are up at the end of the month...if PS4 sales are slowing- as expected, the announcement of a next-gen console would help cushion any stock drop.
Exciting times.
Looks like another great console cycle incoming from sony.
Good to know I’ll have a new console in 2020, hyped for that!

@NintendoFan4Lyf Same here man, was worried for awhile.
Also don't forget to backup your actual game data to an External HDD that's been formatted for the PS4/PS5.
@NintendoFan4Lyf Fair enough! I may follow your example and do the same, we shall see.
