Rumours regarding Cyberpunk 2077's release date have been rampant for months now, but it looks like any hope of the game launching later this year has just been crushed. Replying to another user on Twitter, ever-reliable source of juicy info and Kotaku editor Jason Schreier says that the game is "absolutely not coming out this year".
A 2019 release date for Cyberpunk 2077 always seemed like a stretch, but the rumours didn't spring up out of nothing. Back in March, there was a short-lived leak that attached a 2019 release window to CD Projekt Red's role-playing title, which caused a bit of a stir. Not long after, the Polish developer said that E3 2019 would be its "most important ever", fuelling the already intense speculation.
So is there a chance that we'll still get a release date at E3? Well, it's entirely possible, it's just that it won't have '2019' slapped on the end of it. All we know for sure is that Cyberpunk 2077 will be at the event, and there will be gameplay presentations for both the public and the press. We fully expect an information blowout, in any case.
Did you think Cyberpunk was going to launch this year? Or did you always think it was pegged for 2020 and beyond? Augment your expectations in the comments section below.

I hope this game is a launch title for ps5
@wiiware I think that's incredibly likely, even if it comes to PS4 first. I can definitely see a summer 2020 release date followed by the PS5 version later in the year.
It looks like a crossgen title then.
In my dreams you can purchase it for ps4 and then get a free update for ps5 version...
I can wait to be fair. This year is flying by. I'll get it with my PS5...
If they announce it for next gen then I’ll just wait to get it for next gen. I have a huge backlog of games to get through on PS4, Xbox One and Switch so I definitely have plenty to keep me busy up until PS5/Xbox whatever launch.
Same boat as tlou. 2020 nailed on.
@Neolit would it get a ps5 patch then?
Generally speaking would be great if they do it. A cross Gen where all initial games will be released under "PS" label and get a graphic overhaul once you play on ps5
@JesWood13 I hardly believe they will skip the current Gen if released in 2020.
They won't say no to a potential customer base of dozen of millions users
Cyberpunk 2077 will release in 2020 to coincide with the original pen & paper game it's based on. CD Projekt Red love doing stuff like this.
I'm really looking forward to seeing more at E3.
Ps5 with cyberpunk 2077 sounds like a perfect bundle
2020 is going to be insane...
Delayed so they can add 3rd ppov? Yes!!!
Ok, sigh, im dreaming again.
@arnoldlayne83 That’s not what I was saying at all. Obviously it’ll be on current gen, but if they have next gen versions then I’m waiting and cutting through my backlog until then.
I'm fine with a later release date. I'd rather wait for a finished product than get an unfinished, buggy mess. A lot of games in recent years have failed badly because they were rushed and broken on release and I'd hate to see cyberpunk go the same way. This way CDPR still have plenty of time to iron out the bugs (maybe, just maybe add a fallout/gtav style 3rd person mode so I can see all my cool stuff) and hopefully it'll be another masterpiece that we can get lost in for a while.
The only rumors that they are quick to squash are the late 2019 or early 2020 ones. the ones for later 2020 or even 2021 seem to be ignored a day or two. the fact they jump on the 2019 and early 2020 ones so fast makes it seem to me that those most likely fall in the actual release window and they dont want real spoilers out there yet
