It looks good, right? The reaction to Final Fantasy VII Remake’s reintroduction may have been muted by Square Enix’s awful messaging yet again, but the new footage that we’ve seen of the long-awaited release is exciting. In order to complement last night’s teaser trailer, publisher Square Enix has dropped a batch of new screenshots for you to ogle.

Lovin that cross slash action
Personally cant wait to see more. I think Square need to be clear that this is a reimagining of ff7 though. Expectations that this is going to be ff7 remade with pretty graphics will clearly be wide of the mark and only lead to disapointment
I think it looks great.
So excited for this. I hope along with everything else, that they nail the music and don't mess with it too much. All this teasing has inspired me to re-download and play some more of the original.
Where even is he on the cross slash picture actually? Theirs loads of resident evil type gunge on the walls.
Yup, I think they've nailed the character designs. I can't wait to see Tifa and Red.
Looks like Advent Children.
And now I feel like rewatching that movie.haha
The character models to me are fantastic. I love how they are somewhere between anime and ultra realistic. What a great time to be a gamer!
Looks pretty guuuud.
@Frigate oh you
@ApostateMage Tifa will be censored in the west lol
@Nyne11Tyme lol bewbs
@kyleforrester87 Could be Hojo's lab. More in tune with a mad scientist resident evil-esque feel .
@Shellcore Yeah maybe. I dunno though. Shinra towers has always seemed like a pretty clean place to work.
@Nyne11Tyme She best be packing that tank top and have extreme jiggle physics or I'm throwing an internet tantrum.
@ApostateMage I want to see some meaty Red Dead style balls on Red XIII, too. Unless Hojo castrated him. The monster.
Fun fact
I have never played a FF game. This might be my first...
@kyleforrester87 My brain just melted with thoughts of Red’s meaty balls. I hope the music isn’t all metal covers like most of the anthology.
I hope the combat is more like kingdom hearts 3 rather than final fantasy 15.
@Splat no wonder you thought Monster Hunter was the best part of the show
@get2sammyb article says e3 is next week btw
@Nyne11Tyme Whats there too censor she looked hot but nothing too bad. But i know the anticensor police is crying about it in every article so annoying.
Square delivers with the graphics. Don't need to be an expert to see that.
@Flaming_Kaiser i was just poking fun at how over the top its been. It was a joke. Or at least i hope
@Rob_230 yea, i think the biggest concern people have is the battle system. if it is ANYTHING like ff xv, it will disappoint and alienate 75% of the fans out there. the visuals are beautiful, but i don't think s-e will manage to make an engaging game due to a lackluster combat system. the episodic nature of it is also a drag.
@Porco did you just pick a statistic randomly out of the air
The turn based combat of old was fun enough but you just mash X most of the time anyway. 15s combat was fine really. A bit too easy I guess. Kingdom Hearts works better. But they could make a great combat system for 7 which isn’t turn based.
@Splat In terms of this one, yes, for me at least.
I might give this Final Fantasy game a try since I am too new to the franchise outside of FF13 and 15.
@Nyne11Tyme Does every female character in an game on the PS system had to be censored no matter what? Why bring this up if they are not going to be washed down?
@kyleforrester87 that 75% figure is based on the average percentage of ff fans who disliked ff xv. if you read enough message boards and comments, you will see that it is in that ballpark. most ff fans did not like ff xv — fact. i don't think modern day s-e is capable of making a good action battle system. the company has been on a downward trend for a while now. the kh3 system was merely an incremental upgrade from what came before it, so i wouldn't give too much credit there. there is no reason to have the utmost confidence s-e will pull this off so it is best to remain sceptical until proven wrong. based on the little footage we have seen so far, the system looks button mashy and will offer little depth. i hope i am proven wrong, of course.
@Porco yeah, i think thats fair enough. They need to nail the battle system. Since FF13, it feels like its been 'mash x to win'. Final fantasy was always great for the different strategies needed to beat your enemies and i fear that will be lost here
@Porco but honestly what depth did the turn based system offer, battle to battle? X to attack. Occasional heal and magic. It was nothing special really. Some bosses required a bit more thought but that’s about it. The materia system was actually highly under-utilised as a result of you really just needing to standard attack enemies to win battles. Games like Divinity OS are where turn based combat systems actually shine.
A hell of a lot of people straight up hate turn based random battles too, and will avoid an otherwise excellent game that includes them.
@Nyne11Tyme If we get Hitman episodes i will go insane. Or telltale seasonpass discs i will not buy thats for sure. 😁
@kyleforrester87 whats so special about FF15 tape your attack button?
@kyleforrester87 i agree with you to some extent. the turn-based battles didn't have as much depth as say a strategy game, but some battles kept you on your toes and encouraged the player to manage its resources (items/spells) very carefully and decide on when to use them. there was an element uncertainty that could make the battles intense and nail biting, especially with a game like ff viii where all the bosses scaled to the level of the player. also, the FLOW of the combat was smooth and polished, unlike the battle system of ffxv where at times it was jenky and obstructed by whatever you were stuck behind due to a bad camera system etc. if people want to play a simple hack and slash game, they can always play something from the musou genre... we don't want that from final fantasy. well, most of us don't want that. i know a few ffxv fans exist, although i believe many of them were new to the series and that is why they have no problem with the departure. another jrpg that required the player to manage its attacks/spells etc was chrono cross, since again, the enemies scaled to the level of the player and there was no way to grind levels. i think this system worked well in providing an element of strategy that you will not get with a mashy action system.
@Porco I agree FF15s combat was substandard although it wasn’t utterly horrific. Just too easy, especially after a certain point. Did you play Type-0? I loved that battle system. It was much better than 15s.
@Flaming_Kaiser im just afraid it'll be a 30-40 hr experience and then years to finish. This kind of game has never been made episodic. I highly doubt it'll be 3-4 hour chunks @ 10$ a pop. I mean the former rumor is upsetting enough lol
@Nyne11Tyme Dont think i dont agree but i guess we get more story. But if we get a FF15 game with a great set of expansions of which two never will get released i will go mental. I would take a upgrade on graphics with a few extra's i would love too see turnbased gameplay return.
@kyleforrester87 no, i have not tried type-0. something about it turned me off... maybe it was the awful blurring effect when you rotate the camera or the way the campaign is structured into mini quests rather than a traditional overarching plot... but i don't think it is a game i will ever play. that said, i believe you when you say its battle system is better than the one in xv.
