Good lord, Final Fantasy VII Remake looks superb. We expected a lot from this project, but this first real gameplay chunk has us seriously hyped. Shown during Square Enix's E3 2019 showcase, it features the Guard Scorpion boss battle from near the beginning of the game, in which Cloud and Barret find themselves facing off against claws, rockets, and dangerously powerful tail lasers. Skip to around 8:20 in the above video to see the boss fight in full.
Everything before that is the developer explaining the ins and outs of the new combat system, which is also well worth a watch.
Hands down the best thing we've seen at E3 this year. All it took was actual, good gameplay!

This looked way better than I ever expected it to. Square Enix has really gone all-in on this game.
Dial....11!!!!!! Holy Moly. I got nothing. Take my money. SE still saving E3 as we speak. Lol. Square...that you? Enix???? Whats crackin? Glad you 2 could come to terms
Man this game looks good! I can’t wait for this, day one for ps4 version, I don’t think I can wait for ps5 version lol.
Sony won e3 even though they’re not being there 😃
I was so impressed by this gameplay reveal. This game really did save E3 this year.
Cyberpunk and now FF7 remake have gave us all hope. Add in TLOU2 and we have The holy trinity of generational ending games.
They did a fantastic job with this. I can't wait to play this!
Sorry Avengers saved e3
Time to go back and platinum the other final fantasy games while waiting for This 8 and Crystal Cronicoles
I'm biting my tongue, but Square Enix could actually pull this off!
FF7R, Star Wars Jedi & Avengers saved E3 for me.
Yeah, this was easily the highlight of E3 for me so far.
Of course! A remake of a 20 year old game has won e3! It's not like Cyberpunk 2077, Watch Dogs Legion, Avengers, or Doom Eternal, all new games by the way, got release dates. Or Death Stranding a week beforehand.
@themcnoisy and they may all come out within a month of each other, March/April next year is looking insane as PS4 really goes out with a bang
This does look very good indeed. I even like the look of the combat which seems both modern and a throwback to the original. Great reveal only slightly spoiled by the fanatical screaming weebs. And why was Harry Kane on stage?
Me: Did it really save E3?????
Narrator: It didn't.
But it's pretty effing cool nonetheless.
I never thought I'd say this - but Square-Enix comfortably won E3 last night.
Can't believe they got Nic Cage for the presser. Screw you MS!
It LOOKS great. Graphically. And I know everyone is in full gush mode, but I'm a bit disappointed in the combat.
That wasn't ATB. It's Kingdom Hearts with bullet time slapped on. Real time combat with a limit gauge and bullet time. It's kind of a mess. I have to control multiple characters (or let AI do it), and dodge and button mash to build my gauge to do what I really want to do.
I am admittedly biased. I can't stand games that give me a party of characters in real time - either I feel like the game is playing itself because of the AI or I feel like I can't swap between them fast enough or see what they're doing well enough to make decisions.
ATB was a timer, plain and simple. It forced you to make tactical decisions faster, like the clock in chess, but it was still a turn based system at heart. They've been obsessed with shoving real time action combat down our throats forever now. To the point where they made it easy to slide FFVII Remake more towards that with button mapped ATB actions. Honestly, would it be too much to ask for a "classic mode" that was just full ATB turn based so that we could slide it back the other way too?
After all the skepticism regarding squenix after a decade, this is a positively surprising headline
