It wouldn't be an E3 without Rocksteady Games confirming that it'll once again be skipping the show. The studio's co-founder took to Twitter to break the disappointing news, telling fans that the team is hard at work on its next project back in London.
This is now the fourth year in a row that Rocksteady has decided not to attend after releasing Batman: Arkham Knight back in 2015. Rumours of its next title have been floating about for years now, speculating over what superhero it'll adapt for consoles next. Well, it looks like we'll need to wait a while longer before the reveal comes about. At this point, the developer's next project has to be targeting a release on PS5.
Are you feeling let down by the news? Were you hoping for a Rocksteady unveiling? Shed some tears in the comments below.

He could be lying of course, David Jaffe once said he wasn't making a new Twisted Metal before announcing it at E3. If they are skipping E3 again then it must be a pretty big project their working on. I know there were rumours that it was going to be a live service game but who knows at this point.
Development must be having issues.
Not surprised nor shedding tears, especially if they're working on a rumored superhero live service.
I would be surprised if Rocksteady didn't start out developing their new project for current hardware. Batman Arkham Knight was released before we had the 'mid' gen upgraded consoles and I wouldn't be surprised if they were targetting 4k visuals and would scale these down accordingly for the hardware they released on. 4k was around in 2015 so the artwork would be 'next' gen level but whether the game itself would be 'next gen' only or just boosted by more power - ie native 4k visuals and 60fps min instead of 30fps and whatever visual quality the current different iterations of the current consoles can deliver.
You have to wonder what's taking so long - that long that even 4yrs later they are still not ready to reveal their current project. I know Sucker Punch took their time to before we got to see Ghost of Tsushima after Infamous so it will be interesting to see what direction Rocksteady are headed. Arkham Knight released 4yrs after City but that game was meant to release in 2014 but was delayed into 2015 and we had known about it or quite some time. I can't remember if it was E3 2013 that we got our first look...
Is it really a big deal to skip E3 anymore? Do we want them there if their game is years away so they can show a trailer reveal that shows either no gameplay or gameplay that will be down graded by launch?
E3 is just pointless. It just forces companies to make a special reveal at an arbitrary time that has nothing to do with their development schedule. They will reveal it when it is ready to be seen or when the PS5 official reveal happens.
They weren't at E3 when they annouced Arkham City for WiiU via a video so this might be the same situation. Is it possible it's a Playstation timed exclusive tho and wont be shown until Sony has a show??
Why would they? We know it's for new gen so there s no point now
@JJ2 Rocksteady has never said or even hinted at next-gen. We assume it is now, but the studio itself hasn't said it.
I wonder if they have a partnership with Sony and they are gonna reveal it as an early next gen release at the ps5 reveal.
PS5 reveal, anyone?
EDIT: Beaten.
Damn again. Ah well there BETTER have a ps5 launch title!!
Rocksteady has a long history with PlayStation, The Arkham games had special exclusive content, so I bet my soul it will be at a PS event.
The picture got me hoping that something from the old Batman: The Animated Series would get made. The old DC animated universe was by far the best DC has ever been aside from the comics themselves. Far better than newer cartoons and most of the movies.
Some of the newer more adult oriented animated films have been good, but lack the awesome shared universe that the old series had and that the live action films keep failing to build.
Oh right, this article was about the games. I'd honestly rather have an RPG or an action/adventure super hero game than a stealth focused game.
I thought it was already established that they're working on a Harry Potter game?
@Onion Avalanche was the studio rumoured to be working on that.
@LiamCroft
Yea I see what you mean i do think it's been assumed by most people for a while though.

@Onion
Justice league was the latest rumours
@AdamNovice If its a liveserviceeee game then they can keep it. 😃 👍
Disappointed, for sure. Maybe we'll hear something relatively soon. I'm still hoping for a cheesy 70s-style Superfriends/JL game, but that's probably a pipe dream.
My worry with Rocksteady is what’s happening with Bebob.
🤔 We all know what this means right..
They're skipping E3 because they are working exclusively with Sony and will be presenting their new game at the PS5 launch event....😉
If only that were true! Lol
@RogerRoger I’m really hoping that’s the case. I enjoyed Origins and I’d love to see what WB Montreal could do on the PS4.
I keep clinging to the hope that their next game will be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles one based on the original comics.
2 reasons why not: 1) Avengers is already being revealed. Wouldn't want to create immediate superhero game fatigue. 2) very likely ps5 or cross gen.
@Sinton same here. They would be perfect for it.
@JJ2
Really? That would be interesting.
@Sinton
I"m with ya there. Rocksteady could do an amazing TMNT game. The battles with Nightwing in Arkham Knight prove to me that they could do some amazing brawls.
@SoulChimera
If that's the case, then my mistake.
@Onion no mistake really. The first reports assumed it was Rocksteady, but a “number of sources” came out and said it’s not the case. So the next assumption was Avalanche. That’s about as far as it got.
Disappointing but hopefully we'll get more news on their project before the end of 2019.
