It was too good to be true, wasn't it? Shenmue III has been delayed to 19th November 2019, pushing it back by nearly three months from the original release date of late August.
Detailed in a post on the game's Kickstarter page, Yu Suzuki said that the game needs a little bit more time for refinement and finishing touches. "Whilst almost ready, the game simply needs a little more refinement before being truly finished. We feel that the extra time we have will help us deliver the true Shenmue experience players around the world deserve!"
This is, of course, disappointing news for long-time fans of the franchise, but at least it's a short delay. The title has been looking better and better in recent footage, and this slight pushback will surely result in an even better game. And that's what we all want, right?

That's fine. I didn't expect it to come out in August even though it was only a few days before my birthday but I would rather have a longer wait if it makes the game better.
That screenshot makes the delay feel too short. I know itβs an old one, but gosh dang still.
I wouldn't be surprised if it'll end up next year now.
It's only a few months, not the worst thing.
I'm fine waiting another 3 months. I'd much rather they release a finished game than something 90% complete.
Could even see it falling to Jan/Feb next year too.
Id be surprised if they launch so close to death stranding and modern warfare, even if they are different genres.
I honestly didn't realize it was coming out sooner than that.
Excellent, it's got a different window from Man of Medan now.
So it went from before CoD and around the time of Astral Chain...to after CoD, FIFA and if history says anything, the same time as Pokemon.
Can't fault em for being brave but that's a crowded space right there. As long as the game is good though, all is well and it eill stand on its own.
I'd kinda forgotten this was even meant to be out this year.
@get2sammyb I t would be better off getting delayed to January now.November is the stupidest decision ever, its a suicide mission with all the AAA titles that month. August was perfect,ah well at least Man Of Medan releases in August, and Life is strange 2 episode 4.
Yeah November seems like a bad spot for this, even December would probably be better. Definitely see this getting pushed to Q1 2020. Hope this likes up to everyones expectations!
I really hope the game is good, and the people who like Shenmue enjoy it....but sweet Jesus the game looks bad. It looks like a PS3 remaster of a PS2 game running on a PS4.
@Jaz007 i was thinking that same thing. That old guys face looks very weird.
Ha ha ha ha

Not surprising, really. But to be honest, the longer it's delayed the more likely I am to actually be able to play it!
Could you have selected a worse image for the article?
Releasing in November doesn't seem wise. All the heavy hitters come out to play Oct/Nov. Star wars and Death Stranding are in November and there's probably at least another big AAA game out that month. May end up like Darksiders 3 did last year
@Knuckles-Fajita It's fine. The game has a limited appeal by default, but the people who it appeals to won't not get it because other games are releasing around the same time.
Death stranding and shenmue literally are before and after my bday. Not paying for either of these π. Rough time to drop though for sure.
Death Stranding, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, AND Shenmue III. My wallet is gonna be crying during November.
@RBMango forgot fallen order....yikes
Good. Rather them get it right than release a broken game.
That picture is hilariously bad! I'm not a fan of Shenmue anyway but seeing that image does nothing to encourage me to play the third game.Looks like a Ps2 game.lol
Do developers and publishers not look at the release schedules?!
Just finished replaying 1 and 2 and am desperate to dive back in. It's gonna be a long 5 months. Couldn't care less what it looks like tbh!
@MadAussieBloke you say that but I doubt many COD and FIFA players have even heard of Shenmue π
Me? I'll be buying this instead of COD and along with Death Stranding, Star Wars and hopefully Doom Eternal π
This game will only be for existing anyways, that makes a crowd, but by no means a bestseller. Just got through the hd remasters and had a great time, but I couldn't see anybody who hasn't played it back then to understand what makes it so great. Alone the segment where you have to cross the wooden planks in shenmue 2 is unplayable by today's standards. Damn these qte's!
That old guy in the pic aside, what I like about the graphics of this game is that it looks like how the originals look through some very nostalgia-soaked, rose-tinted glasses. Kind of like how BotW looks like how you remember OoT if you hadn't seen it since the 90s and were very optimistic.
Shenmue I & II remake proved that the series is very niche indeed, so I don't think pushing it back to November will effectively hurt Shenmue III sales (because Death Stranding). And that gives me a little more time to clear my backlog and get to said remake before this installment actually comes out
