As if there was any doubt, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled boost-chained its way to a number one debut in the latest physical UK chart. According to GamesIndustry, it now holds the second highest launch week sales for the franchise -- the first being Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. Furthermore, it's behind only Days Gone and Resident Evil 2 as the third best launch of 2019.
Aside from Nitro-Fueled, there hasn't been much change in the top 10 this time. The Division 2 sees an increase in sales, jumping from 24th to ninth, but the rest of the chart is pretty familiar. FIFA 19 holds onto second place, while Days Gone, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Battlefield V make up the middle.

I’m glad to say that I’m one of those people that helped FUEL it to number one 😉 really enjoying it so far. Took me a while to get used to the slide/boost system, but am getting there. It helps that the tracks look absolutely gorgeous.
Didn't contribute in the UK but did to what will hopefully be a strong performance for the game in the NPDs when those release for June.
Grand Theft Auto V
It's been reported that Take Two are considering changing its name to Take Twenty Three as that's how many copies of GTA V each person in the UK owns.
Mmmm this is awesome.
As someone who's been a Crash fan since the original (although I strongly dislike nearly all the 00's games), it's so good that he's back on form and popular again.
I'm hoping we're only a year or two away from a proper new Bandicoot platformer as well.
This is awesome.
But there is one thought, can someone actually step up to the plate and put some money into a new Crash Bandicoot platformer? We know Crash is selling and I can't help but feel publishers have been a little too cautious. Somebody have some guts and help get Crash Bandicoot 4 made.
I read the online for CTR wasn't working so well at launch, how are people finding that side of things? Or is everyone sticking to offline modes for now?
When there aren't any graphically-detailed open worlds with cars to compete with GTAV what'd you expect...When there isn't any game existing with horses as realistic as RDR2's, what'd you expect...GOW might have won goty but RDR2 is Game for the Years.
Off topic , will you be reviewing sinking city?
@suikoden Yes
grand theft auto 5 number 7 .haha the g.o.a.t word up son
Quite surprised that Forza Horizon 4 is still in the chart and at number 3 too - that's been on sale for nearly a year now and seems to have been in the top 10 every week.
Also, for all the negativity, Anthem at number 10?
@BAMozzy With all the hype I expected GOW to still be representing PS in top 10. Days Gone is recent so it can't be compared to Forza 4.
@TheArt That's because Forza is constantly on sale and bundled with so many xboxes
@BAMozzy Anthem has been heavily discounted so that'll be why but with EA been very hush hush about it's future I don't think it's a wise purchase right now.
@BAMozzy Being terrible doesn't stop something from being popular, unfortunately. You also have to wonder how low the actual sales numbers are to get into the charts. Games in the Japanese charts have often only sold a couple of thousand that week (sometimes less than 1k), and they have twice the population we do.

@AdamNovice Still shocking because GOW was arguably the most talked about game after RDR2 in 2018, you'd think it should at least be no.9 or 10. I think people don't really care about Kratos' angry self as compared to say Drake.
@TalentedAtGames Naughty Dog won't go back now, people expect them to make the kind of games they've been making these past ten years. Personally after TLOU2 I think they will move onto a new IP.
@Matroska - to get into the UK charts at the minute, probably doesn't take very many sales. the individual format charts make for interesting reading. Xbox edition of Anthem is at No.38, whilst PS4 and PCs versions are even in the Top40, yet overall they combine to make No.10 despite many games being above it in the individual charts. RDR2 is 7th (PS4) and 30th (XB1) but not enough to sell more than FH4 (4th on individual charts) or Days Gone (5th).
@TheArt I never compared it to Days Gone...
@AdamNovice To be honest, I haven't checked prices on Anthem - just surprised after all the negativity and concern for the future that it is still selling enough to make the top 10
@Matroska Forza Horizon certainly isn't terrible. Its the 'best' racing game released last year (as it won that award at the Game Awards) and is still selling well. Whether that's with bundles inc the console or not.
I am also well aware that timing of a release and/or the number of sales in a week can determine the position. Release at the right time and your game can be number 1 for weeks with the number of sales yet that number may not be good enough for the top 5 in other weeks.
However, it can still be surprising to see certain games, like Anthem, selling enough to make the top 10 considering the negativity surrounding it. I know that 'combined' sales help propel a game higher than a single platform release but there have been games like Rage 2, Far Cry New Dawn, or even Metro that have all released with better reviews even if they weren't outstanding reviews.
@TheArt - Not really, the UK is not a particularly strong market for GoW. spiderman sold twice as many in the UK last year. if sony gave it away it free with every PS4 sold, it would be above FH4 every week.. but PS4s tends to get bundled with FIFA or RDR2.
@BAMozzy I didn't mean Forza, I meant Anthem. I'm not into racing games but I definitely don't think of Forza as a bad game.
@BAMozzy - i think the UK games charts, barring occassional big franchise releases, are often dominated by games that are cheap. Anthem is sub-£20, and GTA V is ubiquitous in supermarkets (and other non-game stores) at a cheap price. crash is a budget price release too. Rage2 hasn't been discounted yet as far as I know, and metro isn't quite bargain bucket yet - and neither were in the Top40. FIFA and RDR2 are bundled with PS4s, FH4 with XB1s. even though Anthem is #10, its sales are probably not particularly high.
I wonder if Sony will reveal how well Days Gone has done? I'd quite like to know how many copies it has sold. I know it's not done GoW or Spiderman numbers but seems to be doing well. I'd certainly be up for a sequel on the PS5.
@BAMozzy Lol I never said you did.
@leucocyte I was just surprised that even with discounts, that an online game that seems to have little future sold any copies let alone enough to make it in the top 10. I know that the sales this week, apart from the expected new release, probably doesn't need many sales to be in the top 10 either.
With sales being low, a few copies can make the difference between 10th and 11th - its not like you need 100's of thousands to break into the UK's top 10 this week, but it still surprised me that an online only game with such negative press still sold enough compared to numerous single player games. With Sony's Days of Play running too, I expected a different look to the top 10 where just a few sales can make a sizeable jump in chart position die to the generally low sales overall.
@Matroska My main post was about Forza with a little footnote about Anthem (which seems to have generated far more replies than it merited) and, as you didn't specify, I mistook your reply as a comment about Forza more so than Anthem - which, as I said, was much more a footnote...
@leucocyte Strange that they'd bundle PS4s with FIFA or RDR2 instead of their very own GOW.
Use to think I was pretty savvy in ctr until now. I'd even been practicing up on the original to get ready for nitro-fueled. But finally got to play this game for the first time last and got absolutely smoked racing online. Still had a blast playing though!
@BAMozzy Internet negativity rarely translates to actual retail disaster.
@Ralizah It does have an impact - however, it doesn't necessarily lead to financial loss because games don't need to sell in huge numbers to break even.
Mass Effect: Andromeda was financially a 'success' (didn't lose money) But sales were far less than expected or compared too others in the franchise - attributed to the negativity surrounding the game.
@TheArt - not really, they probably paid a pretty penny for the marketing rights for FIFA and RDR2 (including the exclusive in-game tat). in the UK, FIFA sells over 1.5m copies each year on PS4, no other game comes close, that's why it's eager to be the console associated with FIFA.
@BAMozzy - days of play was over for this weeks chart, which is why games like GoW dropped from 14th to 39th. i'd say anthem probably made Top10 with less than 2000 sales.. it's not whether it's had a lot of negative publicity, but whether that many people thought it was worth trying at a bargain price, don't read reviews, or parents picking it up for their kids without knowing anything about it other than what's written on the box - i saw it my local asda for £18
Anyone managed to beat n.oxide in adventure mode? Just seems i impossible
@LieutenantFatman Yepp there were some problems with random disconnects and probably everyone tried single player adventure mode first so you couldn't find people to play with but there are already a patch available for all platforms. I played on switch without any problem, maybe a few lag happened but no disconnect or lobby issues.
