Cyberpunk 2077 fans had been hoping for a Bad Romance, with rumours of Lady Gaga joining the project as both a cast member and one of its composers. CD Projekt RED, however, has maintained its Poker Face on the subject – until now. Speaking with WCCFTech, user interface co-ordinator Alvin Liu admitted that while the superstar would fit right in with the hotly anticipated role-playing game, she won’t be included.
To be fair, the developer could just be dancing around the subject, as the artist was snapped by Paparazzi at the studio’s Warsaw offices earlier in the year. It’s already landed John Wick icon Keanu Reeves for the game, so there’s no question that the company has serious celebrity pull these days. We’re still holding out hope for this collaboration – but at this point we’ll be Speechless if it actually happens.

and this is why you don't take any notice of rumours and wait for the FACTS, until the publisher announces something take it as not happening
I heard she prefers Just Dance
@FullbringIchigo Oh sure, says the android in the cowboy hat. You may wear the trappings of our society, but you're just a logical heartless machine with no appreciation for our irrational love of rumor mongering.
God please hurry up fall, tired of these redundant news articles..
Good. The fewer celebrities in the game, the better, as far as I'm concerned.
@youreyesonly00 You and I both
Apparently she kicked off about the lack of a third-person mode.
Thank f*** for that.

Some of the comments in here are crazy. Lady Gaga would have been a great fit for this game, and I think she could have really added to the soundtrack.
@Frigate He’s an actor? The way games are going, there’s just as much mo-cap as the average blockbuster. Lady Gaga also dabbles in acting so they’d both fit right in.
@get2sammyb
Me too!
Please take this kind of thing to a different site. You can disagree, but personal insults are unacceptable. - get2sammyb
I also don’t really like actors in videogames. I think that in a way it kinda defeats the purpose of the medium.
Yeah not exactly a fan of Lady Gaga or her style of music (although I’m partial to a little bit of everything) but she’d have been a good addition to this game, frankly. I mean if you’re gunna have Keanu, why not.
@clvr The thing is, with performance capture and stuff it's going to happen more and more. Developers now need to capture an actor's full performance, and thus it's beginning to make more sense to go with Hollywood names.
@get2sammyb they can always do mocap and change the look of the actor though.
Would love Lady GaGa in it. Unlike a lot of pop stars today, at least she's actually in both performance and musical style.
@nessisonett She was great in American Horror Story.
@get2sammyb I dont know should we be happy if you waste halve the money on a Hollywood cast. It means less chances for new actors and actresses. Blackops 3 with big names but the storymode was terrible. 😆
@Loveyou I took the liberties of giving you a more appropriate user name. Please see to it that you have an appropriate user for this site.
Thanks for understanding
Nothing sells a game to me more than a lack of Lady Gaga.
I guess you can say Lady Gaga and cyperpunk are never getting back together.
@Tasuki Ok thats a cool move respect. 😆
I'm indifferent to her participation either way but I find the amount of apparent hate in the comments here quite disturbing. What's that about?
@Wesker @youreyesonly00 We're happy for your comments during this quiet period all the same.
I heard Lady Gaga will be in Fifa 2020 and Taylor Swift in Pes 2020.
The negativity surrounding this whole rumor has been so bizarre to me. I'll take Lady Gaga way before I take some of the other potential celebrity names I've seen thrown around on here and other sites.
I'm trying so hard to keep my expectations in check, because hype can ruin a game, but damn is it difficult. Everything about the game looks amazing
I could really care less for celebrities in this game tbh, the game is gonna be hype regardless
I don't generally care for celebrities in games, but she would have been a good fit for this game.
Mad respect for Gaga. Her image has been questionable at times, but she is extremely talented. Go check out when she sang Moth Into Flame with Metallica. Anyway, I'm passing on this game all together so I don't care either way.
@Kidfried Keanu Reaves is a Legend.he is likeable unlike lady gaga.not a fan of her music.god I miss the 80s and 90s.real music.keanu Reaves the icon.word up son
I know I'm gaga for Cyberpunk 2077.
Good! Cyberpunk is alternate NOT mainstream.
I'm loving these summer articles! I genuinely LOL reading them! Love it! 😆😁
@playstation1995 haha yes man!
@get2sammyb I can see how her persona and style could be utilised and made to fit in the mythos, but really- disregarding the fact I'm not a fan of her music- she isn't really anything more than a 'character' or performer to be capitalised on, and cdpr could just as easily make a character themselves for their own uses, without having to bring down the overall impact of the game by besmirching it with contemporary pop icons who will, inevitably, steal some of the focus. I was impressed with the keanu reveal but he's an actor already, so why not use his likeness, when mocap does just that, on some level. That said, I really wouldn't appreciate the game being bloated with recognisable famous faces. Just seems unnecessary.
@ArmyofOne bingo!
@LieutenantFatman just imagine a real life person, whom you feel has done nothing you personally can appreciate, somehow wheedling their way into a service you felt was just for you. Or like, a really nice slice of pie you've been waiting to eat for ages, just to see some **** you hate take a big bite in front of you.
@J2theEzzo Isn’t that sorta talk why gamers get so much hate? Games aren’t for gamers, they’re for everyone so why does it annoy you if the wider public has representation or something that makes them want to play the game?
I like Lady Gaga. I don't care who knows it; I was Born This Way.
@get2sammyb This Lady Gaga article went for you the way the Witcher tv show article went for damo today. 😣 So. Much. Hate. 😔
Looks like we dodged a bullet!
Given in some parts of the world the games industry makes more than music and film combined, I think more celeb cameos in games are a given. I'm not into lady gaga's music that much, she's maddona-lite but I don't get the hate! She would have been a perfect fit for the cyberpunk vibe
Gaming snobbery in full force as well as someone claiming a massive blockbuster game on PS4 isn’t main stream. Ha.
Where do you all come from?
She would have been a great fit and a game having a proper unique soundtrack and talented actress would have been cracking.
More real life actors and actresses in games the better.
Until dawn showed how much they can bring to a game
@NoxAeturnus is this the human form of communication known as, Sarcasm?
as an android i have no understanding of such things
but i do have a sweet Cowboy Hat
@ShogunRok I just wanted to make Lady Gaga pun
@Stocksy having real actors likenesses in games can be a problem too though such as when the licence for the actor runs out which means the game can no longer be sold or if you have an issue like SEGA did with Judgment and the actor who was arrested for drug abuse, they had to delay the western release and pull the game from Japanese shelves in order to redo the character
and the same with music take Sonic 3 for example, the reason that isn't on the compilations or the upcoming Mega Drive Mini is because Michael Jackson's estate are trying to claim royalties from it (which as he went completely uncredited in said game they don't actually have any rights too but that doesn't stop them trying)
so yeah it might be nice to see some famous actor or hear an awesome song in your game but it can cause trouble later on
Anyone would think Lady GaGa punched their Grandmother the way they go on. At the end of the day it's just gatekeeping, "no mainstream actors and musicians in me games".
@FullbringIchigo I agree but not if you don’t have silly agreements - it’s all in naive contracts. The arrest thing would be same for movies and let’s face it that shouldn’t be an issue.
Movies filmed 40 years ago are shown on TV without issues and released over and over. The gaming industry has to catch up and not have contracts that will later be an issue.
Marvel for example I can still buy movies that aren’t part of MCU and aren’t owned by Disney no problem. Games have been removed. Games and movies should be treated the same.
@Stocksy oh i agree it's definitely something that needs to be sorted out
@FullbringIchigo #56 very well played ahahahahah 😄😄😄
@get2sammyb I get the practicality of it, but to me personally at least it feels “wrong” in a way. I feel it kind of breaks the immersion of being in a fantastical world only possible in video games, which is what I personally like in games.
It’s the same with cartoons, really: I freaking love cartoons, but, for example, I’d find it immersion-breaking to have, I don’t know, BoJack Horseman look like Will Arnett.
Ok, he’s a horse so maybe not the best example, but you get what I mean.
On the contrary, I like it when real people is in the show but in a fictionalized, over the top way (duch as Andrew Garfield in BJH and Kenny Loggins in Archer), because that exaggeration fits the style of the medium really well.
To me, it all boils down to how well it fits in the context of the world: if you’re making a game about the showbiz, Keanu and Gaga are absolutely welcome; if your game is set 50+ years in the future and the characters are imaginary, I don’t think having real life celebrities gives anything more to the game. On the contrary, I think it takes away from how iconic a character can be: 20 years from now we will not be talking about “Sam from Death Stranding”, we’ll be talking about “you know, the dude played by Norman Reedus in that Kojima game...c’mon, whatshisname!”.
But this of course is just my opinion.
At what point did we feel it was important to have Famous people in video games? Waste of money with an extra expense that could be used to further enhance the game in my opinion.
Leave the stars out of it.
I'm with the less-stars-the-better-brigade. I don't want them ruining the immersion. As for the soundtrack, I always turn off in game music anyway. For me that also ruins the immersion.
@nessisonett I guess I'm just something of a traditionalist; I like my games gamey, and my characters fictional!
@AdamNovice she (verbally) punched my ears. And probably my grandma's, too!
@J2theEzzo what about Keanu?
Maybe just because of Johnny Mnemonic, I feel Keanu has an associative role with the cyberpunk genre? And lest we forget the Matrix. That said, I did also feel that Gaga could, stylistically speaking, pull off the right feeling for the game, but when the focus of the game begins to devolve into 'which celebrity can we use next', the initial charm is lost on me. No celebrity cameos would have worked fine for me, 1 is a cool surprise, but if they start putting Gaga and Terry Crews (okay, that's crackdown, I understand) and god knows who else... I think it becomes a bit of a cluster...
