Update: SEGA has now officially announced Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD for PS4. It's actually releasing in the West slightly earlier than in Japan; you'll be monkeying around with this updated re-release on 29th October 2019. Have a watch of the first teaser above.
Banana Blitz HD features revamped controls, updated visuals, online leaderboards, and a brand new mini-game decathlon mode that sees you play 10 mini-games in a row. It'll be available for £34.99 / $39.99.
Original Story: Turns out all the rumblings about a new Super Monkey Ball game for PlayStation 4 were right. Having been somewhat leaked by SEGA's own Japanese trademark and Taiwanese and Korean ratings, the latest issue of Famitsu confirms the game's existence. What's more, it's brought us four screenshots of the upcoming game.
We only have a ropey translation to go on, but it seems like this is a remake or remaster of the 2006 Wii game, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz. Unfortunately, this is seen as something of a weak point in the series. Whether or not the PS4 title will contain any content from other Monkey Ball games is unknown at this point.
The article also confirms a release date of 31st October. We'd assume this is the date for Japan, and that the game will arrive a little later in the West. Hopefully we're wrong, and it launches at or near the same time. Presumably we'll learn plenty more when SEGA makes its official announcement.

I'm up for it. I really enjoyed Banana Blitz so I look forward to this one.
Wish Sega would do a modern nights into dreams
Love Monkey Balls
1 or 2 are the way way to go. Anything after that is too much of a handful.

🤯🧐
Guess you really loved the Ape Escape games then?
hyooooooooge fan of the GameCube one. Good memories of staying up all night with the lads trying to beat that silly game.
they should have remastered the gamecube game instead, much better levels and i doubt it would be coming to the west in october, we still haven't got yakuza 3-5 in the west yet so don't have your hopes up.
Yeah, banana blitz is a mild disappointment.
Probably won't get it now, would've been day 1 if remasters of the GameCube classics.
I thought it was alright, I didn’t like the boss battles though. Hopefully the traditional controls will make this a better game.
Whilst the DS4 might not be quite as groovy as the GameCube pad. I’ve already played both GameCube games but not the Wii version so will probably pick this up.
Updated with new details.
Bit disappointing, wish it was the GameCube games or, god forbid, an actual traditional new entry.
Funny choice, considering this is widely considered one of the worse entries in the series. I wouldn't mind remasters of the Gamecube games, though.
I'm still hoping for a first person VR mode. From the monkey's perspective. With a plastic gyrosphere peripheral you can climb inside. And it smells of monkey poo in there. A fully immersive experience.
Never thought I'd see the day but I reckon that'll be a Switch game for me, can't beat a bit of SMB
I’m happy about this, as it will probably be a nostalgia trip for me going back to the days I would play it with my sister, so I’m sold.
Fancy going to the effort of re-releasing a franchise and not using the best entries in the series! No wonder Sega aren’t the powerhouse they used to be with dodgy decisions like this...
I love Super Monkey Ball and I’ve bought a fair few remasters this gen, but man I’m so bored of remasters now- especially lazy ones of games that can’t be considered classics in any way. A new Monkey Ball or remaster of the original would be day one. This, I’ll wait for when I can pick it up for monkey nuts
@MoorePs4 Didn't Sega make one a few years back?
@Link41 That was 12 years ago now, so not quite. The gap between now and that game's release is now larger than the gap between it and the original.
@Link41 they did a nights journey of dreams for the wii but I didnt like the way you had to use the wii controllers, they released a hd version of the original on ps3 and xbox around 2012 I think which was good but Id like them to do a remake with the graphics power these days.
Banana Blitz was literally the worst one of the whole series. Disappointing.
Super Monkey Ball, proving that there’s not much difference between a Gamecube and a PS4 after all.
As long as the ball controls better than in Rock of Ages. A most beautiful game thats got wonky controls.
