Monkey King: Hero Is Back is undoubtedly Sony’s biggest play in the Chinese territory: an original game developed by HexaDrive with input from the platform holder, based on a 2015 animated movie which grossed over $153 million domestically. It’s looking decent enough, too, as this ChinaJoy 2019 trailer showcases some fairly large-scale conflicts.
There’s still no word on a date, but this one is scheduled to deploy overseas – although latest rumours suggest THQ Nordic will publish it on Western shores. It makes sense for PlayStation to license it out, seeing as it’s not on quite the same scale as its other exclusives. As long as it gets localised, that’s all that really matters, right?

Not gonna lie, this actually surprised me. It went from looking like an average PS2 brawler to a dragonball-styled action game. They really went all out, huh? I'm relieved because the previous gameplay for Monkey King really didn't look all that impressive.

The thing is Sony doesn't own this game at all, they just pay and promote it for China, Japan and other Asia theritories.
@snakemake Well, it's also their game. But I get what you're saying.
This game's starting to look pretty impressive.
not looking too bad actually i might actually get this new Dragon Ba... i mean Journey to the West game
This wasn't the game I remember about the Monkey King from a few months ago?
@get2sammyb I meant that game is literally owned by Oasis Games + Oct Animation Studio and not by Sony.
@eltomo They are still actively working on the game and must have changed the gameplay style at some point.
This is definitely the same Monkey King game that you saw from before though.
