We’ve been writing about the Uncharted movie for a decade now, but the project has just lost – by our count – its fifth director. According to Deadline, former Totally Rad Show host Dan Trachtenberg has parted ways with the film, although Spider-Man star Tom Holland is still signed on to play the part of Nathan Drake.
The newly established PlayStation Productions – a sub-division of Sony Interactive Entertainment, designed to adapt the organisation’s copious array of intellectual property to film and television – will now front the flick, which has been stuck in development hell for what feels like an eternity.
The Japanese giant is forging ahead regardless, and it hopes to have a new director in place by the end of the summer. Production is scheduled to begin in early 2020, but don’t be surprised if that date gets pushed back. At this point, we just can’t see the film ever coming out; are any of you optimistic about this project at all?

Why do they even bother at this point? Lol
Joking aside, it’s pretty crazy how tormented this production has been.
They need to let it die. Unless PlayStation Productions has a grand new plan, this cycle will continue indefinitely. There is obviously some mismanagement or creative disagreements which cause a string of five directors to last a year or so in the pre-production phase before very publicly disowning the movie in some cases. The wheels are spinning. But what do I know? Uncharted: The Movie coming July 2035
Uncharted: A Directors End
I’m like, whatever at this point.
Wow, they're really moving into uncharted territory now.
I'll be dead by the time they get a director to stay.
They should try getting Christopher McQuarrie to direct. The action sequences/set pieces in MI: Fallout reminds me of something you see in Uncharted games.
Just get Steven Spielberg Its cheaper then going on like this. 😤
I know he's kind of the golden boy right now because of Spider-Man, but the idea of Tom Holland playing a young Nathan Drake still makes me internally gag. I do not like him as an actor. Sorry.
Hopefully Tom Holland steps down as well, awful choice for Drake.
Perhaps let it die and spend all this time and money on a new game 🙄
How hard can it be to make an Indiana Jones based movie.
They need to just stop. Uncharted is fine as a video game and nothing more.
@LN78 even if they make the old film like sort of remake that would be awesome as Disney is doing with its calssic.By today's technological progress it would feel completely fresh. Maybe today hired directors and actors. Are not of that standard.
Clearly a ploy to allow Tom Holland to add a few years before it finally gets made (personally i think he will be good in the role)
I'd rather just play Drake's Fortune again. Where else am I going to hear about Sully's exploits in Lima?
If they keep going like this, then it's going to be as bad as most other movies based on video games.
Simple tip. Don't use Holland and make it a TV show.
They probably have enough content to make a trilogy about the failed production of that film.
Couldn't care less about a movie and it's one of my favourite game series of all time. I think many people will be split if there is another nathan drake uncharted game, never mind a movie! Just let this die
I don't know why I think the Uncharted movie will happen, so I insist...it will happen.
It will be crap, though.
Also, what about the Metal Gear movie? Nobody talks about it anymore..
I like skateboards
Just cancel the movie. We all know what happens to movies with troubled development.
Maybe they're trying to make it really authentic by going through directors to match the amount of games in the series.
Get rid of Tom Holland not the Director. He has already killed Spiderman for me.
@SoulsBourne128
Watchmen had one of the most troubled development histories and turned out to be one of the standout super hero movies of its generation.
Ditch Holland and get Nathan Fillion involved to play Drake, albeit a slightly older one. He's the perfect fit for Drake, and the live action Uncharted short he did was just so on point, I can't see anyone else playing Nate.
Hell, Fillion I think had something to do with the production of the short, so he knows what's needed to make I movie I would suggest.
Stop, It's already dead!
A Sony movie, changing several directors on the way to production/completion? NEVER. 😅
Scrap Tom Holland, bring in Oscar Isaac.
@Boucho11 you’re the real hero of this comment section lol 😂
Part of the plan to get James Gunn to direct and TJ Miller to star. 😝
At this rate Tom Holland will be playing Sully by the time shooting begins.
As Drake would say...Aw crap.
remember that fan made film on youtube? the one from 2017 summer or so. That movie was amazing in everything it did. Resemblance was spot on, the cast was alike to video game characters and it was giving attention to smallest details.
Why Sony could not just hire them all to do the job is hurting my mind.
Let it die. Holland shouldn’t be Drake and it’s never gonna keep a director.
Uncharted: The Director is Cut
I'm a HUGE Uncharted fan, and would... should... be mega hyped for this, and looking forward to it. But I'm not. I was, but not any more.
It's nothing to do with the time it's taking or the number of directors they've been through, but more the way they said they want to take the story, and the actor they've chosen to play Drake. Nothing wrong with Tom Holland, other than I don't see him as suitable for the role.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again... give the starring roles to the people who play the characters in the games. They're all more than capable actors, and the voices, chemistry, and body language will be spot on. Fans will lap it up, and as for non-fans... a good movie will stand on its own merit, and doesn't need a big name to attract an audience. Better an excellent B-movie than a half-arsed try-hard A-lister.
Really should just drop this movie all together
@Paranoimia Just can't see Nolan North doing the stunts without his mocap suit and floor pads can't you
The production hell is the worst start for a franchise. Maybe they should just stop before we get a lame „knock-off“ version of uncharted, unrecognizable in key elements and a mashup of all games combined in one movie. The tomb raider movie as an example.
Is anybody even excited for this crap? The games are horrible and I'm for sure the movie will be too
happy to join the family of pushsquare.
i'd like to say the uncharted should be a game nothing more nothing less, i don't want to see another tomb raider movie failure
