There were concerns when the first footage of MediEvil on PlayStation 4 was released. The first snippets of gameplay looked very rough indeed, especially for a first party project. However, it seems to have made a fair amount of progress, as it's looking decidedly better in this new video straight from Tokyo Game Show 2019.
The 12-minute video shows off the very start of the game, and shows off Sir Dan gathering treasure and using his arm and sword to fend off zombies. It's looking suitably scrappy, but the redone visuals are packing a nice level of detail, and the art style has a nice cartoonish slant.
Sir Dan is set to return on 25th October 2019. Are you excited for this MediEvil remake? Charge into battle in the comments below.

Whoever is the one playing this is not very good.
@ellsworth004 yup, I got dizzy watching the demo ahahahahahaha
This doesn't ease my concern of how the gameplay holds up by modern standards. Of course the person playing this isn't very good, but this still looks like I wouldn't much enjoy it as a new player with little knowledge of the original.
It's looking lovely, definitely an improvement from the last build, i can't wait to play this
One of the best ps1 games ever.word up son
Either the person playing isn't very good, as a few have mentioned already, or the control are clunky as hell. Possibly a combination of the two. Either way I can't say this is doing it for me, not even in a nostalgic level. I think I'll be leaving this one on the shelf.
The framerate has undeniably improved since the first time they showed it last year. I hope it actually is 60 fps.
@Eldritch @Broosh hey, Shadow of the Colossus PS4 didnt change anything about the gameplay, it still has that wonky PS2 controls.
They're not really expecting a lot of newcomers to buy these remastered versions (from the ground up so it says) , its more of a service to the fans who really wants to play the game as they remember it I guess
The controls look clunky, the animation looks stiff and the camera seems terrible. The charm is there though, lets hope it comes together.
Is this confirmed to be 4K with HDR support?
Looking fairly decent now, at the end of the day it's a straight up remake of a PS1 game where parts have aged as well as Sir Dan's skin so I think there's only so much they can do. Still with it been half, as long as it's perfectly playable I don't think there will be too much to complain about.
They've said from the beginning it's the same as the original game just made from the ground up with a few quality of life adjustments... Same as the Crash and Spyro remaster/make trilogies.
I don't get why people are expecting any different? It wouldn't be the same game then...
Been a Sir Dan fan since Medievil came out all those years ago it's looking fantastic! Can't wait til October!
Never much cared for this, or the original, so definitely not one for me, though others seem to like the look of it. But if they're testing the waters, there are many others that could (should) be incredible as remade games: Nightmare Creatures, Tombi(a), Dino Crisis, Bloody Roar, Legacy Of Kain, Tenchu and the greatest ps1 game that hasn't already been revisited, Syphon Filter. I know @playstation1995 will more than agree, as he has before.
@nookie_egg. Syphon filter is the best ps1 games ever.word up son
The framerate is more smooth now compared to early previews
@Shepherd_Tallon I'd thought Halloween myself lol
Although you could pretend it's the Nightmare Before Christmas game...only actually good.
... I quite liked that Nightmare Before Christmas game @AdamNovice ! Was pretty decent with the Devil may cry-ish gameplay and the redone music wasn't half bad either 😅
@Amplified I suppose we all look at remasters differently. Personally I'm not so worried about the graphics. For me, if they're going to make any improvements I'd rather it be the controls... or at least give an option for old or improved controls.
It looks gorgeous. Seriously looking forward to this one. Here's hoping it sells well and there's interest to make a third.
Well all the concerns about framerate should be put to bed now. Looks like they have polished the game considerably before release. Day 1 baby!
@foxy-goddess-scotchy I must be thinking of a different game then if it had DMC style combat.
Well it was a bit watered down @AdamNovice compared to Devil May Cry (It was made by Capcom though) but there was the whole hack and slash, dodging and building up combo's gameplay like them... Oogie's Revenge was apparently based on a sequel script
There was also four versions of the Oogie song (aka best song)
Though (to get us back on track and topic) Sir Dan is best Skelly boy... October can't come soon enough
@Amplified Hey I get that. I adore SotC and it's wonky controls so makes total sense this is a nostalgia trip for many.
@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy Imagine on Halloween Your Trick Or Treating And Someone Drops a Copy of MediEvil in Your Bag Along With Some Candy
Got my game preordered with a nice steelcase to boot. 😁
I warmly remember Medievil, but I don't think I ever played it to the end. I also remember liking Spyro a heck of a lot, but when I got that remaster last year, I felt flat and not elated when I played it. It just didn't thrill me like it did 20 years earlier.
Its like these remasters can't live up to my warm and fuzzy memories. My older self gets let down, because I remember loving the game a lot, but now when I play the remaster, I realize these games aren't my "thing" anymore.
But Syphon Filter, yes. Tenchu, yes. These are titles I could bite down on and enjoy. I think.
