In celebration of State of Play, the NPD Group has released a list of the best-selling PlayStation 4 exclusives to date in the United States – and it’s not quite as predictable as you may initially assume. Yes, of course, Marvel’s Spider-Man is in pole position, followed by God of War – but it’s Horizon: Zero Dawn, not Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, which commands a podium place.
Bloodborne is an extremely impressive performer in fifth position, while Days Gone – which launched earlier this year – is just one place behind it. The list is rounded out by inFAMOUS: Second Son and a trio of MLB The Show titles. Here’s the top ten:
All-Time Best Selling PS4 Exclusives in USA
- Marvel's Spider-Man
- God of War
- Horizon: Zero Dawn
- Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
- Bloodborne
- Days Gone
- inFAMOUS: Second Son
- MLB The Show 17
- MLB The Show 19
- MLB The Show 18
In addition to the best-selling exclusives chart, the NPD Group also revealed the PS4’s overall top performers. As you’d imagine, Rockstar Games and Call of Duty rule the roost. Here’s the full list:
All-Time Best Selling PS4 Games in USA
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- Call of Duty: WWII
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
- Marvel's Spider-Man
- Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
- God of War
- NBA 2K18
- Battlefield 1
Are you surprised by some of these results? Is it pretty much exactly what you’d expect? Let us know in the comments section below.

@Hylian-Likely It was just really... Good? Like, I agree with you, I didn't think it was a Game of the Year candidate last year or anything. But I just enjoyed playing it a lot.
Gaming comfort food.
@Hylian-Likely I mean, it's a Superhero piece of media, so I don't think it's possible to avoid predictability. I've basically read almost every comic related to Spider-Man and the story was indeed predictable, but I really enjoyed the ride. The gameplay was really good and enjoyable, and I wasn't bored halfway through (which is pretty common for me these days).
@hylian-likely because that game's web swinging never got old.
I’m assuming The Last of Us: Remastered doesn’t count as a PS4 game because it was originally released last gen? Because I would imagine it would make the top ten at probably number 5 ahead of Bloodborne but behind Uncharted 4 if it was counted.
Horizon Zero Dawn is the PS4's best exclusive for me.
Every MLB game beat Ratchet and Clank!?
God of war and grand theft auto the 2 best video games franchises ever.word up son
@Hylian-Likely I somewhat agree as I found the checklisty stuff quite uninspired but the main missions were really great for a superhero game, when you’ve played the older ones on PS2. We Nintendo-themed pun accounts must stick together, you know
I can’t believe days gone did so well I personally really liked the game even though reviews for the game were mix. I’m excited for Sony bend next project what ever it is. I hope Sony bend grow more and get a bigger budget for their next game after days gone success.
And WTF isn't The Witcher 3 in that second non exclusive top 10???!??
Come on people, get with the system!
FOUR Call of Duty games in the top 10 list? Call of Duty is just the Mario of other systems at this point...
@Jay767 Considering Days Gone only come out in April, that is pretty crazy, such a great game, look forward to the sequel.
I didn’t even know that the MLB games were exclusive to PlayStation 🙄
@Hylian-Likely the side content was absolutely terrible — i agree with you there. it might be the most repetitive and uninspired side quest list from any open world game this console generation. that said, the mechanics and sense of movement was executed so well that it made up for the side content. the main missions were pretty good on the whole.the story is typical superhero fare, though, so not sure what you were expecting in that regard. the story was better than any of the movies in my opinion.
I’m curious to know actually how many copies Days Gone has sold in total (and not just US). I don’t think I’ve seen any mention.
I really enjoyed it and after seeing the Nero missions ending I’m eager to see what they can do for a sequel.
I really want to Aloy again in Horizon Zero Dawn 2 the game was my favorite game this generation. 🤓
“Well GTA V being top is a real shock”
Said no-one ever, anywhere
@Neolit It's good to see somebody else who thought that Horizon's story was excellent. I'm always perplexed when people say that they thought the story was weak.
Uncharted 4 at #4 means there weren't enough PS4s by 2016? And God of War I'm currently so glued on my 2nd playthrough I can't put it down, I guess RDR2 kinda distracted a little on my 1st run. I'm taking it slow and must say it's an incredible work of art, too gorgeous. As for HZD, I can only imagine what Guerrilla is gonna do with HZD2.
Horizon Zero Dawn is my favourite PS4 exclusive, even over the mighty God of War.
Spider-Man was a blast, a good fun game and best representation of Peter Parker since Spider-Man 2!
Uncharted 4 was a real blast, upon reflection not quite as good as 2 but not far off. Fitting end to the series.
And there's still Death Stranding and Last of Us 2 to come!
Bravo Sony, bravo.
Every time I read/hear the massive praise for God of War I feel so jealous. I just can't seem to get on with it. I keep going back but always get bored. Really not a fan of 'hub games' where I'm forced to come back to the same location again and again. I need constant forward momentum or it just feels stale.
Horizon Zero Dawn is comfortably the best PS4 exclusive for me with a great story, the best open world combat I've played, it looks phenomenal and they didn't fall into the trap of having the world too big just for the sake of it. I really enjoyed God of War but not really until I got past the light elf area which if I'm honest I didn't enjoy, after that though it was great. Spiderman whilst having checklist side content has that Mario feeling of just being fun to play no matter what you are doing, and is one of those few games these days that remembers that games above all else should be fun to play
@Hylian-Likely “Predictable” and “Menial”? You mean all the recycled sports franchise games that are on these lists that charge full price for basically roster updates and minor adjustments? 😉
Not to mention COD. I think “predictable” is an apt description there.
Spider-Man was definitely iterative in many ways, but I have been enjoying it nonetheless. I can understand the disappointment in some ways because of the cookie-cutter checklist approach, but I knew that going in and so I wasn’t expecting something ground breaking and so I’ve liked the game for what it is — like Sammy says “gaming comfort food”
H:ZD is the best for me also. i've only played 4 of the ten (GoW, HZD, U4, I:SS). uncharted 4 in 4th place is a bit of surprise, considering last figures released for it suggested 16.3m sales worldwide. infamous in 7th place is an even bigger surprise though.. that came out in 2014, when the number of PS4s wouldn't have been that high. it's not even that good.. i thought the PS3 infamous games were much better.
I got to the fourth chapter in Uncharted and thought it was one of the most boring games. I heard it gets better after that but I traded it in, just couldn't do it.I can't figure out how it got such high scores.
All 8 exclusives are awesome. Really hope Infamous isnt abandoned and that Sucker Punch has a second, smaller team working on it
God of War 3, Bloodborne and Horizon zero dawn are all you need to justify a ps4 in your living room...
Bigger shock is Gran Turismo being beaten by MLB
First of all, Spider-man was dope. I tried God of War, couldn't get into it. I wouldn't even put it on this list. I've also sunk a ton of time into The Show and I'm one of like 50 people who enjoy Days Gone.
@arnoldlayne83 Really, if you cut to the chase you can just cite Bloodborne. My hands-down fave game this gen. Hundreds of hours and counting.
@Hylian-Likely Sorry but I loved every bit of it. As of late I even play it just to swing around NY. It is such satisfying and freeing feeling
