Driveclub is easily the pick of the bunch for me too, so gutted we'll never have a sequel. Wipeout in close second but the rest I've tried (Project Cars, Gran Turismo etc) haven't really done it for me. I'd love a nice remaster of Outrun Online Arcade or Sonic Racing Transformed, too.
For me it's Driveclub, so I agree!
A bit surprised you put Dirt over Dirt 4 as I thought 4 was considered to be an improvement (everything Dirt got right and more?).
I need to get Dirt 4.
Wipeout is pretty great, a proper sequel would be welcome at this point.
And I'd like to try Onrush as it could be my cup of tea.
The Ultimate Edition of Assetto Corsa seems to be way more user-friendly than the vanilla version. Has anyone played it?
https://www.google.it/amp/s/www.thecheckeredflag.co.uk/2018/05/review-assetto-corsa-ultimate-edition/amp/
I have Dirt Rally VR and Wipeout VR, both good fun. The game I'm really looking forward to though, is GRIP. Rollcage is back!
Driveclub for me, but honourable mention to Trackmania Turbo as well.
Picked up Onrush a week or so ago a majorly underrated game haven't been able to put it down since I got it. Shame it looks like it struggling going by that its hugely reduced already.
A strong lineup of games there, but I'm hoping Wreckfest is going to top them all when it comes out later this year
I quite liked Trak turbo for a ps plus game, pretty fun!! I like gt sport more than driveclub but to be honest, I just don't get the feels for driving games the way I did with ps1 and 2 era. Probably enjoyed racing in gtav more than any dedicated ps4 racing game I've played.
@Quintumply not even a mention of the NFS games? The latest one had it's perks
Does anyone else feel like Racing games are dying out a bit?
@antdickens while certainly not as prolific as past gens, I would hardly say their dying out. With the games here and solid titles on other platforms (Forzas, Asseto Corsa, MK8D etc.) imo it's a great time to be a racing game fan.
WipEout Omega Collection is fantastic. Would love to see some more of that!
Absolutely love DriveClub and I'm gutted Evolution are gone. I was playing the original Motorstorm over the weekend and it's still a fantastic experience.
Got to admit I'm quite jealous of Xbox owners and Forza Horizon. 3 and 4 are top of my wish list for one I get one of those consoles.
@andreoni79 I only have Assetto Corsa on PC, but the console version is supposedly fixed from what I have read, for example see: https://www.racedepartment.com/threads/assetto-corsa-community-blog-console-patch-preview.126099/.
If you want a very technical racing sim, probably the most advanced one on console, it's a good deal, especially with the double discount.
However, I did not stick with the game, I had lots more fun playing RaceRoom and Automobilista on PC. They are much better in my opinion. I also think GT Sport, Forza and Project Cars 2 are more fun to play and engage with. 'Sure' it has highly advanced physics, but to me that's not everything, it has no personality.
The game also has a terrible community, and Kunos' commitment to consoles is highly doubtful. I don't plan on buying from them again.
@kyleforrester87 I definitely think Dirt 4 is better than Dirt Rally. It feels like a complete game for one thing, with a huge amount of content, whereas Dirt Rally felt like a half-finished project.
@antdickens Far from it. There's lots of racing game options these days, … if you are open to arcade games and bike games that is.
I liked DriveClub. I’m a big fan of Burnout and Ridge Racer, Wipeout to a degree too. I dunno, I like the look of Forza but I’m not buying a system just for that. What should I play next to fill the Ridge Racer / Burnout hole?
@Bonbonetti Thanks for the info. I'd rather go with Project Cars 2 then, but strangely I still haven't bought any racing game this gen. No need for speed...
I'd love remasters of the original WipeOut trilogy — those games were a lot more reasonable in terms of difficulty; it was pretty rough getting through all of WipeOut HD, especially with 75-ish msec of lag on my old TV. lol
I respectfully disagree about the lack of racing games on the PS4, there's lots of fun ones to choose from, you just have to be open-minded and try new things. Even if a game is not 100% perfect, more often than not it's still fun to play.
Arcade games:
Need for Speed Rivals, Need for Speed (2015), Need for Speed Payback, Trackmania Turbo, The Crew 1 & 2, FlatOut 4, Trials Fusion, Burnout Paradise, Mantis Burn Racing, Horizon Chase Turbo, Race Arcade, All-Star Fruit Racing ...
Motorcycle & motocross:
MotoGP 16/Valentino Rossi The Game (my favourite in the series), Ride 2 (best in the series), Monster Energy Supercross, TT Isle of Man, Moto Racer 4, MXGP Pro (best in the series) ...
Rally/off-road:
Dirt 4, Dirt Rally, WRC 7 (best in the series), Sébastien Loeb Rally EVO, Gravel, Baja Edge of Control ...
Futuristic:
WipEout Omega Collection, Redout, Riptide, Lightfield …
Other:
F1 2017 (best in the series), NASCAR Heat 2, Project Cars 2, DriveClub, Gran Turismo Sport, Assetto Corsa …
More to arrive this year: F1 2018 (August 24), Nascar Heat 3 (September 7), Dakar 18 (September 11), V-Rally 4(September), Wreckfest, Grip, Distance (maybe this year?)… and most likely a few others I haven't heard of yet.
@Bonbonetti great list!
@andreoni79 I really hope I did not discourage you too much, my experience and view of the game is permanently damaged by the interaction I had with the game's community, which was very negative. I can usually shake these things off, but I got so angry back then that it's still with me today.
@b1ackjack_ps With DriveClub, the one I bought simply says 'Driveclub' on the storepage, nothing else, a 15 GB size thing. I had to buy the Season Pass as an extra, as well as the Bike expansion and a couple of smaller DLCs (Packs and Tours) not included in the Season Pass.
I copied the following from a Neogaf post but it matches my memory:
'The Season Pass … includes cars from all the DLC packs except the following that came in 2016 after the pass was over:
No Limits Expansion Pack
Honda Civic Type-R
Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 V-Spec II
Finish Line Expansion Pack
Jaguar XJ220
Koenigsegg Regera'

I recently bought Need for Speed Payback & Gravel discounted at $20 each on PSN & loving them!
@antdickens
Not really, there are many good racing games, but lately they have developed a lot the "sub genre" "Sim Racing", leaving aside other "sub genres", but, of course, there are really many other sub genre games (mini/toy cars racing, futuristic racing, battle racing, "arcade" racing/arcade 80s racing, etcetera).
However, for me, the sub genre that belongs to games like Burnout and Need For Speed (Asphalt in mobiles) really is what I have seen very, very little of them, and I mean games where you run on "random" tracks, with cars, whether real or imitations, with obstacles like traffic and police or obstacles in tracks.
and another detail for me is that many of those games nowadays only have "career mode", but not quick / single race / player, it's say, game modes where you customize the races for fun and you can extend the life of the game (something that I miss in the classic NFS of the 90s), not only repeat again and again the same events of the career / story mode or all is only in multiplayer-online.
Onrush better than Trackmania Turbo ??? Okay I'll go kill myself now, bye.
For me since I don't like realistic racing simulators a lot of this are not for me but I like WipEout and Burnout
Has this been updated? ... with Onrush I assume.
Far too many PS4 gamers expect smaller studios to deliver the same production quality as a AAA-studio like Codemasters, there's little wonder you people can't find enough racing games to play.
arcade racers are starved on ps4, but that burnout game that was featured on here looks promising i guess.
Do you know what would make Onrush better? A normal race mode.
Otherwise - Driveclub all the way.
Reportedly, Burnout Paradise is a buggy, unfinished mess. My votes go to Grip, Horizon Chase Turbo and Dirt 4.
Ehh Onrush being on here above the NFS games or even the Crew is quite a reach. Rest of the list is spot on though. Really wish Sony would do a Gran Turismo "Horizon" in the same vein as the forza game.
We need a good NFS game. We haven’t had one since Rivals. We need Hot Pursuit 3. No open-word focused, no always online dumbness, just a great sequel.
Definitely agree with Drive Club, turns out that is my most played game according to the My PS4 Life Video. If only Sony supported Evolution Studios to the same extent as Polyphony Digital. Imagine what DriveClub would have looked like with PS4 Pro support and more additional content.
Drive Club is awesome, it had a bad start but the amount of stuff that was added and fixed was quality, even the bike add on was sweet. After that for me it would have to be the WipeOut collection, Great stuff.
Updated!
@Quintumply I agree with @ZagTheRagWag - GRiP is great fun.
The PS4 has lots of arcade racers. None of them are very good. My top 5 racers (in no order): Driveclub, GT Sport, Dirt 4, F1 17 and WRC 7.
Is TM Turbo a racer? Seems more like a time trial. Like saying Trials Fusion is a racer. Onrush would benefit from a standard race mode. Until then I'll stay away. Also why isn't GTA5 listed. Lots of people like the races online tho I think there is no sense of speed even with the fast cars.
NFS has gradually made themselves obsolete and stand by the fact that of the Blackbox/SMS/Criterion PS3 games, Blackbox were the better choice. Ghost PS4 Games have not rekindled my NFS.
@SegaBlueSky Yep, missing OutRun 2 on PS3 is one of my greatest gaming annoyances. At least the PC version is on disc, the Xbox versions look awful via scart on the PAL console, and on 360 backwards compatibility, both have various issues...
On PS4, Ive enjoyed GT Sport the most out of those Ive played.
Driveclub for me. Still the best racer on the system. Great fun, challenging, and looks stunning.
@Ristar24 Just get Coast 2 Coast
@KALofKRYPTON Ha, I do, have the PC, Xbox and PSP versions! Ah, if only SEGA could still sell the game, would be great on PS4...
@Ristar24 True that!
I think the hammer blow for racing fans is the better racing game is on another system. That pains me to say after years of domination from Gran Turismo on PS but it's just not as good this generation.
Hopefully IRacing can make its way over from PC some day soon.
@KingdomHeartsFan on PS3? I'd say just get GT6. But Grid 2 was okay. On PS4? Just get GT Sport but some like Assetto Corsa or Project CARS 2 - I thought they were both crappy with a DS4.
I was really disappointed with Redout.....
List is otherwise basically OK but this gen wasn't a vintage one for racers.
@themcnoisy this is unfortunately true. I'm a huge racing game fan and I bought an Xbox one exclusively to play the Forza Horizon games silly as that sounds. I have dabbled in some of the other exclusives but that was the main reason. Horizon 3/4 are just better than 90% of what's on the ps4. Been saying it for a while but I really hope we eventually get a GT game in the vein of the Horizon ones. Really is a gap on the system.
You guys really need to do a review of Monster Energy Supercross 2. I haven't played a motocross game since ps2 days. I'm amazed at how much they have improved. I just bought the first MESX and have yet to put it down yet. Once you up the difficulty you really have to be precise and fast if you want to win. These motocross games are getting so much better they need all the exposure they deserve for the developers hard work and dedication. I never thought I would buy a supercross game but after playing this I am definitely buying the 2nd MESX and prolly MX vs ATV All Out(I have heard this one has greatly improved after updates) after this. These should definitely be in the list for best racing games.
I'd say the only racing games on PS4 worth a damn are Burnout Paradise and Wipeout Omega Collection and the next (and only) one I'm looking forward to is Crash Team Racing. All re-releases of older games. Pretty sad pickings this gen if you don't own an Xbox One.
There's just not a very big market for racing games anymore. That's why they barely exist these days.
@Frigate I don't think it's soulless at all. I actually think it's got bags of personality considering that it exists primarily to replicate the real world!
@get2sammyb "There's just not a very big market for racing games anymore."
Having bought every NFS on PlayStation except High Stakes and Porsche Unleashed... having a high percentage of the racing community that buys your games feel let down in some fashion on every game for a decade... it doesn't generally lead to increased sales
watching the increasing trend of requiring a wheel to be competitive (online and off). uh, no. the PS4 controller is the DS4 - not the G29. if a developer (Kunos Simulazione/SMS anyone) can't get their game to work well with the default DS4 (Polyphony & Codemasters can) which despite hardcore fan wishes is what most people use...... it doesn't generally lead to increased sales.
Wheels are great for those who want them, but make sure your game works well without one.
The fact that many series from the PS2 era (MotoGP/MX vs ATV) don't look or perform as if they're two console generations removed... it doesn't generally lead to increased sales.
The racing developers continually shoot them selves in the foot. I can imagine the outcry if people playing COD/Battlefield/Fortnite were forced to buy a gun accessory to be competitive.
NFS Rivals is the last racing game l enjoyed, but l like the cops n robbers aspect rather than pure racing like Cars 2. I still give NFS Hot pursuit a whirl on ps3 trying to get those gold medals
Nah... still gotta be Driveclub.
@Rols Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit on PS3 is fantastic! Probably my favourite racer since Burnout 3.
@Cycologist Never played High Stakes?! You missed out, that was one of the good ones. Played that until NFS Hot pursuit 2 on ps2 came out. Now that was a masterpiece!
I find with PS4 racers, generally, that the controls using the left stick instead of buttons to steer, and the shoulder buttons to brake and accelerate are just too awkward to control over the d pad and x o buttons option for PS3 racing games. Sticks make sense for bike games to simulate body movement, but add nothing to car games, apart from more sore thumbs.
Simple:
best sim games = Assetto Corsa and Project Cars 2
best-looking = Gran Turismo Sport
best arcade games = Redout and Grip
best rally games = WRC 7 and Dirt 2
best off-road games = Dakar 18 and Gravel
best motocross/supercross = MXGP Pro and Supercross 2
best sillyness = The Grand Tour Game and Trials Fusion
best Career mode = F1 2018
best open-world = the Crew 2
best superbike = MotoGP 17 and Ride 3
best nostalgic trip = Horizon Chase Turbo
Project cars 2 for me. It wouldn't have even featured on my list until I got a wheel. Absolute game changer with that game. GT sport is also fantastic with the wheel.
I liked wipeout when it was just lap races, I dont mind the knockout races etc but I couldn't stand the zone lap races. I wish they had left them out.
The only racing game on PS4 I own is NFS Rivals which didn't even make this list. I've considered getting Burnout Paradise but haven't, thinking it might be too similar to what I already have and still haven't even beaten. How do those games compared to each other?
I pre-ordered Drive Club along with my launch PS4! Due to issues I had to wait a year to receive it. Yes I was plenty upset with the game and came close to canceling my order many times. Today I can say it wast #1 racing game on PS4. What Evolution did with DLC to make up for launch issues was above and beyond!
I think this list is a good compilation, but i'm not sure if I would have trackmania so far down on the list. I'd be hard press to recommend 13 (minus the two VR) racing games over it. Hot seat is one of the most brilliant local multiplayer modes I have ever played in a video game, and you don't even need a second controller.
@3Stock_Samwise "Hot seat is one of the most brilliant local multiplayer modes I have ever played in a video game, and you don't even need a second controller."
Well, of course. That's what "hot seat" means.
Just a playful jab - I'll see myself out.
(By the way, agreed that Trackmania Turbo deserves a higher position on this list.)
I think that's a pretty good list, loved Driveclub and probably played that and GT Sport the most.
I first bought Assetto Corsa & Project Cars 2 when I got my ps4 and was shocked how impossible it is to control unless you like crashing from wall to wall at the slightest touch of the stick. So I bought a low end wheel and just wasted my money because it's exactly the same if not worse. And my wheel is only supported by a couple games and has no dpad to navigate menus. Thats why I now stay away from ps4 racing games. Apparently you have to have a pro wheel and be some sort of superstar gamer to simply master the controls enough to play these without bouncing from wall to wall. For me it's only a waste of money and frustration. Not to even mention a lot of them require online to play. Got burned on NFS not knowing that, and can't play Driveclub and so many other online onlys).
The Crew 2 should be on there...
It's the closest we've got to a Forza Horizon...
Can not believe Onrush made your list one of the worst racing games I have played ever played.
If anything, the updates to this list show how relatively poorly the genre is served on PS4. Dearly wish Driveclub hadn't tanked the way it did, would love loved a sequel.
While GTSport is not as good as previous games, mainly due to not enough content, the quality is there and it deserves to be number 1.
Dirt rally is my second choice for sheer brilliance. Dirt rally 2.0 is my third choice.
I bought Driveclub recently, i have to say I did not like it. Sold it a couple of days later.
@YozenFroghurt
GT5...?
Glad to see the brilliant Wreckfest earning a spot. Not had as much fun with a racer since the old Destruction Derby games on ps1. Dont win many races online but i do love messing up the leaders when they lap me ha.
I agree with many on this list. Track mania Turbo has turned into one of my favorite arcade-racing titles on the system, spending hours into it. I really agree with Burnout Paradise, as I owned it on PS3 (but have not played it as much), I find myself playing for hours on end on PS4. Definitely one of my favorites as I await a new one in the series (hopefully for PS5). Wipeout Omega Collection is also another great one, and Redout is another great one! Shame about Drive Club, as it was a great title, but one of the series that I'd like to see make a resurrection, or at least a Trilogy collection, is Motorstorm. Motor storm Apocalypse was one of my favorites on PS3, and I'd love to delve back into it!
Yikes Drive club is criminally low now. Behind On rush? Sprint Vector? Really? I mean I get the delisting and server shutdown sucks but still it's leagues better than those at least. Craziness!
Driveclub is definitely a top 3 game... easy. Pushsquare just demoted it because it was delisted. IDK why people always drag up the fact that Driveclub's beginning was buggy. Those people still bring up Aunt Judy's alcohol addiction even though she's been sober 10 years. That perception alone probably led Sony to close Evo more than anything. They could never do enough in the public's eye, despite amazingly successful efforts to rectify it.
DriveClub is top 5 easily. But I want to give a shout to HORIZON CHASE TURBO, if you can overcome prejudice about the graphics and aesthetics you will find the BEST top-gear-like racer on ps4 with LOTS of content. A 9.5/10 IMHO.
@Arugula it's there because of it's name, no other reason it's hollow and soulless, the series lost it's greatness a long time ago.
wtf?? comments from Jul 2018??
Id put NFS Heat and Wreckfest higher, though its a very subjective thing. I never really liked Burnout Paradise, though I did enjoy the earlier games. Sonic's latest racer was spoiled for me by framerate issues, it would jump seemingly from 60 to 30fps, jarring to play.
Gran Turismo, Driveclub & Wreckfest easily the Top 3 spots for me , with an honouable mention for Sonic.
I would have loved a Ridge Racer game on this gen. I much prefer arcade to realistic sim racing.
@TheBuzz good point.
Great to see Dirt Rally 2.0 getting the love it deserves.
Ok, a lot of ‘best of‘ lists lately...is there any chance to start with the number one. Why should i be interested in the 20th best racing game for my Ps4..? I think 90% jumps to the top 5 right away.
Wait a sec... you guys had Driveclub listed as number one just a year or so ago — and now it's 14th?!!! Maybe cause they took it offline?
I think it's still the best — or one of the best — racer(s) ever made. Massive content, great balance of arcade and sim.
@doctommaso yeah I guess it's sort of a lesser version of its former self though now the online element has been removed. Still looks and plays fantastically though if you just want a single-player game.
Driveclub is still my favourite PS4 racing game, it looks and plays fantastic, the Wipeout collection is another good racing game. Sonic Team racing was hugely disappointing and Burnout Paradise just isn't very good these days, for me it was always one of the weaker entries anyway
I can't believe you guys driveclub out side the top 5. I have played f1 once. Stop playing rally games once it was changed from Colin mcrae to dirt. You need to do a survey on your top 20 games and which gets the most votes.
GT Sport and Grid are my picks. Project Cars 2 is overrated as hell
@stuzster all i want is a racing game where u start off with a crappy car and have to win races to upgrade it and then buy a better car. Rinse and repeat throughout a career mode. Is there a game on the ps4 like this or do i need to break out my ps2 for old GT games?
I've now played PC2 and think it's absolute rubbish. Dirt rally 2.0 is the best driving game for my money. All the Dirt games are brilliant. GTSport is second and I really hope Gran turismo 7 is on PS4 otherwise PS4 gamers have been shafted.
I like dirt 4 the best.
HEAT SHOULD BE NUMBER ONE!!!!!!!
It’s a new track record!
GT sport is dull, dull, dull! Dirt 2.0 ftw!
@kyleforrester87 I just can't take this list seriously with GT Sport at the top, it just feels lifeless and dull and it doesn't help that the single player is woeful. Dirt Rally is a lot more exciting and actually digging through my PS3 library I found Outrun Arcade and in 5 minutes with that I had more fun than in several hours with GT Sport.
@carlos82 yup, hate to say it but some exclusivity bias at play here I reckon!
@kyleforrester87 @carlos82
Agree with you guys, but... Bear in mind that rally is inherently more thrilling and dynamic because of the open ended tracks, as opposed to racing on a closed circuit. I love both DR2 and GTS for different reasons. Have to say, though, that racing (simracing and actual racing in real life) seem to be anything but fun. Gruelling is the word that comes to my mind.
@Bonbonetti preffered the handling in dirt rally tho
@gollumb82 true but even as a circuit racer Gran Turismo has been feeling pretty sterile compared to its competition for at least a couple of entries. Added to that you have a single player experience that is hugely underwhelming compared to pretty much all of its predecessors as Polyphony put all of its eggs in the online basket and as such there would be many racing games I'd play before this one.
Actually this gen hasn't been the best for racing games in general, PS3 had better GT installments, the two PS3 Sonic racing games are much better than this one, as were the Need for Speed titles and even the Grid games. Then obviously Burnout and Wipeout are from last gen and we're missing the likes of Midnight Club, Driver, Motorstorm and even Sega with the likes of Outrun and Sega Rally
I miss Burnout, too. Gotta say that I have Forza 7 and Forza Horizon 4 on the PC and the former feels like a cartoony and brodude kind of racer. The latter is enjoyable, beautiful graphics-wise, but so overwhelming in its size that I gave up after a week of playing. As for GT, to me it seems the same as Assetto Corsa- minding your racing line is more important than having fun on the track. Same with Project Cars 2. Grid seems fun but it got middling reviews so I'll wait for a deep discount.
I wish Criterion would do another Burnout Revenge god I love that game so much so that I got it back off eBay a few years ago because it was so much fun
I find Forza Horizon 4 so much better than the best racing games on PS4, it isn't even fun anymore. That said, I've only tried Driveclub for two hours (the controls didn't do it for me), and Gran Turismo doesn't really interest me anymore with its slow grinding.
Tony Stewart's Sprint Car Racing....best racing game on ps4 so far....
Been playing Assetto corsa competizione the last week on my steering wheel and i absolutely love the racing. The cars sound absolutely amazing and the attention to detail is great, eg squeeks and knocks coming from the cockpit and grit and marbles flicking up at the bottom of the car when you go off track or wide on a sharp corner. Im defenately tempted to get the origional now after playing Competizione as thats just the GT3 cars. Hard as nails tho but im getting there.
Wish someone would revive BLUR franchise.
I enjoy fun-racers and sim-racers alike.
No Assetto Corsa ? It's only the best sim available on PS4...
It's funny how the actual, y'know, racing sims are completely lacking on this list. Where the hell are the 2 Assetto games? Those are by far the best sims on the platform.
@clvr To be honest, the Assetto Corsa review on PushSquare totally misses the point, way below the usual quality standards of the site.
@Cornaboyzzz yeah I remember the whole "wheelgate" lol
I'm not big on racing and motors in general, but I know several fanatics who play sims and let me try Assetto with a super expensive wheel, the way it's intended to be played. I can't even begin to imagine how such a complex sim could work on a DS4, to be honest. That's gotta be like those guys beating Dark Souls with the DK Kongas lol
I'd be curious to see a review for the recently released AC Competizione, just to see if they stick to their guns or reevaluate their approach.
@clvr hahaha yeah it's like playing a VR game while watching the TV screen, technically it works but... ^^
It depends if they have a wheel to get the real experience. If they don't, I think it's better to skip it.
I almost got the platinum for Horizon Chase Turbo, it's reminds me of Outrun like you said. I am definitely picking up NFS Heat at some point, I really like DriveClub it's a shame we will never get a sequel. I keep on saying Motorstorm needs a remake with modern graphics, or a reboot. I got Forza Horizon 3/4 amazing racers got all the DLC for both too. Playing Forza Horizon 4 at the moment on XboxOne X, love the way it changes seasons. And the women "in 400yards turn left, turn left, the amount of customization is insane it's amazing like difficultly, Car handling etc.
@Cornaboyzzz yeah the one I tried is a 350+ € wheel with an integrated engine that simulates friction, resistance, etc..
I'm very ignorant on the matter so I can't describe it properly, but you probably get the gist 😉
I was thoroughly impressed by the experience though, even I found it very engaging, while racing sims with a controller usually bore me very fast 😅
@clvr I'm using a Thrustmaster T300RS so it's probably not far from what you're describing. But yeah it completely redefines the experience in racing games.
Onrush takes my top spot for most regretted purchase.
Drive Club provides just the right balance between racing and sim for my tastes.
DriveClub still one of my favourites 😎
DriveClub is my PS4 Best Racer!
I voted Racing with Ryan 🤭
I think there's been a mixup as I can see that Gran Turismo is #1 instead of DIRT Rally 2.0.
The racers this gen have been pretty disappointing outside of DriveClub. I recently tested out Forza Horizon 4 on Game Pass PC and it was a pretty standout title. Sony really needs to have more alternatives in this genre.
@captainsandman - Forza Horizon 4 is straight up the best arcade racer I've played since PGR4. Sony simply don't have anything to compete. While I wasn't a big fan of Driveclub I loved the Motorstorm games. Such a shame Evolution got shuttered as Sony really do need a good arcade racer of their own.
Any list that puts GranTurismo Sport at the top of their list has no idea what a 'game' is, or what entertainment is. This game was the least entertaining thing I have ever done on my PS4, that include watching the news. I returned it after a week. Sure, the dynamics are second to none, but it's basically a chore, not entertainment. There is no game play, it's just too serious.
I've been on the fence about buying Dirt 5 as user Reviews for it were quite mixed. I'm surprised you featured Team Sonic Racing tbh as everyone I know hates it. I enjoy it personally so it's nice to know other people enjoy it too.
Both Need for Speeds are fantastic. Crash Team Racing I like but whenever I play online I just get left behind so I probably won't be bothering with the online for much longer.
@Metz, some of us would disagree!
I actually ended up buying GT Sport a week after the launch because I really liked what I saw, what you may see as a 'chore' in racing is actually fun for some of us and for me GT Sport helped me actually get better as a 'racing driver'.
Granted once the campaign events are finished there is only online but people enjoy Sport more for the livery creation tool and the private racing lobbies hence I suspect why it got number 1 spot.
My playtime on my PS5 and probably others shows it got something right but overall I have probably played Drive club for similar hours now.
@antdickens 8 & 13 are NFS games…
@billynotsilly yes, they are there now — but my comment was back in 2018 before this list was updated
@antdickens ahhh! My bad homie. Totally missed the date.
This list trash. Driveclub is a top 5 racing game. Who care about wipeout and kart racing
I really like racing games but I very rarely play multiplayer. The AI on most games just makes no sense. I think Wipeout is my most played game and the AI is stupidly hard. Been playing Hotshot Racing on the Switch a lot this weekend and it is almost impossible AI wise on the hardest difficultly, I have reverted to a third playthrough of BOTW. I would say Crash is the best for single player racer on the PS4/5 but if anyone has any other suggestions I would be happy to hear them.
I want outrun 2 and a new ridge racer
I was a Forza fan…. Still am, but I just got a Ps5. Decided to go with GT Sport bc it was cheap and I wanted to see if the series is for me. I am starting to favor GT over Forza. Controls seem smoother and more responsive….
Looking forward to WRC generations before the licence is handed over. Possibly the last WRC game i will buy.
4-5 NFS titles and not 1 WRC? Sport triumphs over GT7?? Any game originally on PS3 like Burnout??? This list is more entertaining and less accurate every update!! Good work!
WRC generations would be high up the list for me. Love it!!
They have Sport as number 1 but say GT7 is a stronger game???
No motorbikes game in there. TT Ride on the edge 2 is really good, looking forward to the 3.
Dirt 4, Wreakfest, driveclub and NFS hot pursuit gets my highest votes
Redout is a great futuristic racer in the same vein as Wipeout.
