Sony changed the traditional generation game when it introduced the PS4 Pro in 2016, and many had been wondering if it would repeat the same feat with the PS5. Well, it's taken a year longer to arrive, but the PS5 Pro has been officially announced, and will release on 7th November, 2024. As part of our PS5 guide, we're going to share a little more information on the supercharged system.
Is There a PS5 Pro?
Yes, the PS5 Pro was announced on 10th September, 2024. It'll release on 7th November, 2024. Among its primary features, the new console will introduce a machine learning upscaling technology named PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, or PSSR. It'll also feature improved ray tracing.
You can learn more about how the PS5 Pro compares to the standard PS5 in our Full Tech Specs comparison.
When Will the PS5 Pro Release?
The PS5 Pro will officially release on 7th November, 2024. This is a full four years after the original PS5 launch, which is a year later than when the PS4 Pro was introduced during its respective generation.
How Much Will the PS5 Pro Cost?
PS5 Pro will cost $699.99/£699.99, and it will not include a disc drive. You'll be able to attach a disc drive to the console, but this will be sold separately.
Will PS5 Pro Have Exclusive Games?
No, every game released for PS5 Pro will also be playable on a standard PS5 console. Many games will be upgraded to support the unique features and functionality of the PS5 Pro, but they'll still be playable in their entirety on the original hardware.
You can find a full list of All PS5 Pro Enhanced Games through the link.

I don't really see a PS5 Pro...
Law of Diminished Returns.
If 4K is the standard (by then) & PS5 can do 4K, what would be the point.
Doing a monster console for Big $$$ only gives an opening for cheaper streaming boxes.
Yeah I really don't see the point in a Pro version of that console, it should already be doing 4K60 for many games so what would be the point? Forget 8K that's just a buzzword thrown out by both of them and the new Navi cards simply aren't capable of it so these consoles won't be either. I don't even expect a big visual difference between these generations either, just a big jump in performance and complexity of game worlds with the major visual upgrade being lighting if indeed they are capable of ray tracing
The PS4 pro was created because the original PS4 was not capable of producing a 4K images. PS5 will be capable of producing a 8K image so the should be no need for a mid generation upgrade.
I hope not I don't like this mid generation upgrade thing that's gone on in this gen and I feel it takes away some of the shine of seeing the sparkly new graphics of a new console in a way.
Of course there will be a PS5 Pro. Will probably arrive 3 years into the gen just like PS4 Pro.
I would welcome a PS5 Pro model in 3 to 4 years after the base PS5. Consoles are great at hitting the sweet spot in Power and Price. But that spot moves forward a little every year as new tech come out and prices drop on high end tech. The ps4 Pro took nothing away from the base PS4 it added to it. People still purchased the base PS4 because of its lower price. That's a great option to have.
If they release both a PS5 and a PS5 pro, I'll wait for the pro to be more affordable instead of buying it as they release an unmissable game (looking at you Guerrilla).
I feel that Sony is going all out in the specs department which should make sufficient provision for Ray Tracing and VR for the foreseeable future. This means they will have less need for a mid gen update compare to the PS4.
What's the point of this? What's with the recent trend towards hyperbole around here?
@Neolit Completely agree. Multiple articles appearing over the last couple of days, for every bloody aspect of the PS5, most with no information at all, or at least very little new info, which could - should - be all in one place. Click on any of them, and what you get is basically "we don't know". None of these need publishing until there's actually some info to put in them.
It's ridiculous, borderline clickbait bullsh*t, presumably to boost site rankings and increase ad revenue.
I feel there would be no need for a PS5 Pro, given that the specs are already impressive looking on the base console. Plus it will already come with current standard resolution for tvs
Hopefully not, didn't buy a pro this gen. Not shelling out another god knows how much for a mid cycle upgrade. What they should have is mid cycle modular upgrades, that plug in. Giving the system a bit extra juice.
I don't mind at all!
If there is a pro sure!
Going to buy that one
They've already (regrettably) proven that folks will buy mid-gen upgrades. It's going to happen.
I hope so. I always buy the pro version of everything. You should see my pro toilet roll holder.
It would fit with AMD making chiplets rather than a great big SOC. Just double up like they did with the PS4 Pro 20.6TFlops 😁 I don't see the point in wasting all the power on 8k give us better worlds at 4k 😎
Ill do what i did this gen buy both
@spoonard. I love my pro, its alot better than base ps4, if you have a good 4k tv, i managed to get a 65" samsung curved qled and its night and day between the base ps4 and the pro
No buy digital ps5 than when the pro comes out I will grab the physical version so that I can gladly play my old upgraded versions of the ps4 games as soon as i buy the physical version which will be smaller and hopefully have a limited edition console aswell. So yeah I only want six games for the ps5. 1 godfall 2 demon souls 3 hogwarts 4 rainbow six quarantine 5 res village 6 ragnarok . And despite buying cyberpunk for ps4 pro. It has three story arcs so il start one on the pro the other on digital ps5 and buy the time I've finished it start it again on the ps5 pro with the 3rd story arc and play it again. But i will still play my ps4 pro with a ps5 because people forget that u can still use the pro that's still stunning even with games that do and don't run at 60fps because it still has 1tb if storage so I won't need to delete the games im already playing on it, and it's still a good console regardless of what people think and the servers will still be running just like the ps3 was. I'm only gonna play games that took half an hour to load like anthem and the hunt showdown. It's those games that will benefit from the ps5 so I'm very happy with what we have got and already have. Can't wait to play the wither 3 also. And I bought the series s to sit next to my one x. I don't think the series x warrants full price just now when they don't have one solid release game bar the medium. Even halo still looks like dogs dinner and that's on the most powerfull console ever made. Yeah xbox make great consoles pitty they can't get great games and buying Bethesda i don't think alot of Sony fans will be botherd with that. But again that's why i have a one x and the series s on its way. So I can play what they have at a good 1440p and faster speeds. As u see im sorted and no what i want.
I bet there will be a PS5 Pro that aims for 60fps with native 4k and taytracing. Right now that is possible at 30fps.
@Paranoimia if they don't do that, less people will access their sites since the lack of content. Even if it's only irrelevant stuff being posted, it will bring the illusion of constant activity.
THIS THING IS FOR KIIIIIINNNNNNGGGGSSSS!!!!!!
