And just like that, the PlayStation 4's integration of Facebook is being removed starting today (that's the 7th October 2019, for those of you reading this in the future). Sony's official support page on the matter doesn't give a clear reason for the removal, but it does offer a breakdown of what this means for users.
Basically, you'll no longer be able to upload shares (videos, screenshots, links to gameplay broadcasts) or Trophy information to Facebook -- functionality that's been in place since the PS4 launched. Removal of Facebook integration also means that linking your PlayStation Network account to your Facebook account isn't possible, so details like profile pictures imported from Facebook, and various friends list features are gone.
It's certainly a sudden removal, but Sony seems keen on overhauling PlayStation at multiple levels ahead of the PS5's release next year.
Did you make use of Facebook integration on PS4? Give us a sad emoji in the comments section below.

Good. Facebook has proven itself time and time again to abuse users privacy.
Sharing Didn't work 99% of the time for me
But the linking of profile pictures and names I really liked
It's an interesting one. Obviously Facebook's had its fair share of bad press and problems recently, but I don't think that'll be the reason PS4 functionality is being removed. Could be to do with how the PS5 will handle social aspects? Maybe Sony's going to focus on pushing its own networking stuff next-gen? Tough to say.
Its horrible i wont sleep anymore
That's odd.
I used it a lot to begin with but then I got paranoid about spamming my non-gamer buddies with it all so stuck with twitter (especially after they increased the video length) the friend recommendations never worked for me. Knew a few friends who had a ps4 and they never showed up.
quite a few are disconnecting from Facebook lately for example Square Enix recently announced that Dissidia Opera Omnia is losing Facebook support
probably because Facebook is a terrible service full of bile
What about putting a link on facebook to twitch when streaming from fb, is that also banned?
That's too sudden, well since its no news at all, maybe they disabled it temporary for following changes in ofw 7.00.
lets wait and see.
Only from the PS4? It would be great if it was removed from the Universe.
I liked sharing the odd video or screenshot on FB, very weird to just suddenly remove the feature. Now I'll have to upload to... somewhere else? and link that on FB...
PS5 will replace Facbeook with it's own social media app called Homeverse, a cross between Home and Miiverse. 😂
Maybe I can join another class action lawsuit like PS3 OtherOS. Besides the original $10 check settlement I got a few months back I got another check, this time for $3, a couple of week sago.
$13 for something I never used, not bad.
@ShogunRok May have something to do with sharing user data with Facebook. I know it was discovered that Nintendo, for example, is sharing user details with Facebook. Maybe they demanded the same of Sony, and they said no. But maybe I'm thinking too good of a multinational company like Sony and there's a more plausible reason. But it could be interesting to see what Microsoft is doing in that case. That could shed some light on the ''issue''.

Here is hoping if they are going to implement their own social platform they are on their Ps and Qs. The only company with security concerns to match facebook is probably PlayStation. Member Xmas in the dark that one year? I member
@Octane Yeah, that's a good point. It could just be that Sony and Facebook couldn't come to business terms and that's that. I'm sure there's a good enough reason — hopefully we hear more about it at some point.
@Nyne11Tyme If it's the one I'm thinking off then Xbox was effected too.
Lovely subheader that
@ApostateMage
Amen to that!
I used it once in a while, but it started acting funny when I tried uploading CTR NF clips. Logged out, and logging in doesn't work anymore, so I won't miss it.
Funny story, I uploaded a clip of Monster Hunter World on Facebook last year and it got removed cause Facebook thought it contained abuse of animals.
i've never had a facebook account, so i'll not lose any sleep over it. in fact, i think it's great news. it'll not affect xbox users, since microsoft is almost as big a privacy abuser as facebook.
Who's using Facebook apart from my nephews anyway?
@AdamNovice maybe both were attacked. Only psn was down fir over 40 days
I only sometimes uploaded screenshot of glitches to Facebook. For some reason it started showing when I earned trophies again recently even tho I turned it off years ago and just as suddenedly stopped lol
@The_Great_WmR and now I can't do that anymore 😢 I'm stuck with the default avatars?
@Deadlyblack
are you serious? that is hilarious 😂😂
I liked having my photo with the Mrs on our wedding day as my profile and uploading photos from games probaby to no one who cared byt not fussed about fb in general!
@Nyne11Tyme It can't have that then cos it was only down for a day or so. And the only other PSN for as long as you say was the outage which happened around April time. Besides which that was nearly ten years ago now.
I stopped my Facebook account nearly five years ago and can't say I have missed it so this news doesn't bother me at all.
@AdamNovice sorry if i had dates wrong. The bug data breach from2011
@Nyne11Tyme Yeah that was the outage when PSN was down for nearly a month. Like I say that was nearly ten years ago now and PSN has gotten a lot better after that.
Maybe its because of Stadia Sony does not want to competition too get free info. Lets make it clear that im only guessing. And Facebook is dead too the Kids anyway.
The yoof of today are mostly on Instagram and Twitter so I'm told. Not had a Fakebook account for years, too many fakers on there for my liking.
Facebook is the 4chan for 60+ year olds, sharing Jesus memes with one another. Good riddence.
Good thing. Thanks.
Not an issue for never used that I uploaded videos onto YouTube and twitter they were much better than Facebook
I used to use often just post random trophies that I earned every now in then. Kinda sucks that it’s gone but it ain’t that big of deal.
Isn’t Facebook shutting down and restricting access to tons of its APIs in response to all the Cambridge Analytica stuff.
I imagine this is mainly a case of Sony simply can’t ping Facebook’s servers like it used to be able to anymore. A shame, but these things happen.
@huyi It's true. I had a good laugh from it, that's for sure.
@ShogunRok Yep, does seem a business thing judging from facebook's reply ...much like Sammy mentioned, seems to be related to the privacy issues....
https://www.kotaku.com.au/2019/10/the-ps4-no-longer-connects-to-facebook/
Doesn’t particularly bother me but why would they do this? I’m genuinely confused.
Any ideas?
@ShogunRok Maybe Sony will be able to maintain a stronger Miiverse network compared to Nintendo.
Bravo!!! This is fantastic news!!! Thank you Sony!!! I already feel more free!
@3MonthBeef
Yeah you heard right!
Do not care either way as not a Fcaebook user. But seems a strange move making a break from the largest social network.
Social networking is snitching.
Why do so many articles here start with “and just like that”?
Facebook linking being removed at some point is no surprise, happens to every product it can be linked with at some point
Haven't used Facebook since they added Twitch or YouTube so it's all fine
I don't understand why did they need to remove a picture from my profile and even from my pictures library. It was used as a layer for my logo in my YouTube videos. Now the logo of my channel has a huge hole in the middle instead of my photo. I can download it again from Facebook, cut it to a round shape as it was in the logo, copy to the usb stick, copy to PS SHAREfactory. But... Why? What's the reason of removing photo from SHAREfactory library?
