Well, the Death Stranding reviews are here and the game's sitting quite pretty with a Metascore of 84, but not everyone is as enamoured with Hideo Kojima's latest as we are. We've awarded Death Stranding a very rare 10/10 here on Push Square, but the title's received a handful of less positive critiques elsewhere. The question then, is this: are you going to buy it?
Over the last few months, we've seen a lot of people say that they'd be waiting for reviews before deciding on whether to splash their cash, and now that the reviews are here, it's time to decide. With Death Stranding out next week, on the 8th November, will you be picking it up? Are the reviews in line with what you had in mind? Vote in our polls, and then look after your baby in the comments section below.

No, it's not my cup of tea.
Eventually. Too many other games I'd rather play this next month, and I have some major reservations based on what I've seen and heard. I hope everyone excited for it enjoys their time with it, though.
I'm holding off on this one b/c it sounds a bit like No Man's Sky in the "social aspect" department and NMS is far removed from where it was upon release, so I'm wondering if this game will do the same. I know it's more story driven than NMS but if we get the option to basically just watch 3 hours of cut scenes and leave out 25 hours of delivering packages I'll take it.
At the very least I'm sure it will play better on a PS5 and 4k TV than my old PS4 and 1080p TV anyway.
I actually expected lower scores, it looks mad boring
Maybe, though going to be playing Medievil for a bit... MGS 4 and 5 I wasnt keen on, so not rushing out for this.
This is exactly where I thought it would fall. In time, this will be regarded as a revolutionary game...and the only console you can play it on is PlayStation. It's absurd how dominant the brand has been this generation.
I said no to buying it because I put it on my Christmas list - someone else will hopefully be buying it for me!
after seeing Digital Foundry Review and of course more than 10 reviews by 10/10 score, i should say YES!
Pre-ordered and booked the day off, this seems more like an experience than a game. Not every piece of entertainment has to be fun, i sure as hell didn't find Joker fun in the cinema but it got under my skin and made me think!
I'm more excited than ever now. I haven't bought it yet but I think I'll get it digitally and will probably pre-load too.
@lacerz
And PC!
I'll probably pick it up early in the new year when I have a bit of a gap to play it. From what I've seen I'm not overly excited but a couple of the mechanics do sound interesting. For now I'm playing through The Outer Worlds and getting Star Wars in a couple of weeks
Preordered it as soon as the release date was confirmed. This was always going to divide people as its very different from the norm. However its better reviewed than anything Konami released since he left lol
@AstralSoul13 It's an open world walking sim all about the logistics of navigating terrain to deliver packages, with some light melee combat, boss encounters, and loads of bizarre cutscenes and imagery. The open world will feature asynchronous cooperative multiplayer elements where players can construct structures and leave notes to help one another.
At least, that's what I've gleaned from reviews and footage.
Day one and I'm going in as blind as I possibly can. I've ignored almost every article and video, the only things I've seen are the reveal and launch trailers and those are all I need to know this game is definitely one for me.
Yes, I plan to preorder the steelcase version. The reviews are good, the story and graphics looks great, and the gameplay seems interesting enough that I want to try it for myself.
I am interested by the world and story but less so in the main gameplay loop. To be honest I thought this would do worse review wise though have to wait for the dust to settle for the Kojima effect to be known. However I have AC Odyssey to finish, Afterparty and Outer Worlds to get stuck into so this will go on the back burner.
Yeah I preordered a while ago, interested in trying it out, helping to build connections in the world and seeing how the game world develops over time. It's rare I preorder! Its divisive though, not ruling out that I wont get on with it
Not a buy till huge price drop, reviews seem to confirm that is a good delivery man sim - fetch quests collection, and this does not really rings my personal 'I am having fun' bell. Still curious to play it more as a piece of art than as a game.
I expected these reviews, both being little divisive and getting 9/10s, but mainly because there is a Kojima bonus. In my personal opinion it would be a 7 at its best if it was done by any generic studio
Already preordered and going in mostly blind. I took a look at the scores, but didn’t read the reviews. Expected the Metacritic score to be a tad higher, but it doesn’t bother me.
@lacerz you check that all time console best seller list? Been a LOT longer than this gen😉
Not for me personally. Never been a big MGS fan either and it feels oddly similar in ways.
I wanted this game from the moment it was announced. At the end of the day we have an industry that's crying out for something new and original which I personally feel should be supported. Otherwise we get a lot more of the annualised franchises.
@lacerz it's being released on pc as well I read the other day, I think the article was on here or I could be confused
I'm in day one. I haven't looked at scores as I know I'll be playing it and wish to make my own impression.
I plan on renting it.
The reviews are exactly as expected. The game for me will probably be a 6-7 but critics seemed fanboyish for the most part.
I'm not getting it day one, but I am planning on playing it.
@PhantomXIII lol for the last sentence.... You nailed it
@1_W1NG3D_4NG3L Post-apocalypseman Pat........?
(sorry)
Going in blind Kojima never let me down before. 😉
Very on the fence about this one. Looks really interesting, but also seems like it could be a pain to play through.
i decided to order it for next week. it's uniqueness and boldness to do something different has me intrigued. i may still not like it at all, but it doesn't sound like a rinse-n-repeat that a lot of modern AAA games are. i haven't actually bought a game all year, and i found this for £41, so it's not too much of a risk. i've only played two games all year - anthem which is frankly terrible, and CoD:MW which i thought was a bit of disappointment. i just can't see this being worse than anthem, in any circumstances.
i actually didn't think it would average in the mid-80s to be honest. i half-expected in the main that kojima would be called out for his self-indulgence.
@supergurr
Most PlayStation games are now available of PC, but I don't game on PC. Good for those that do and don't mind waiting the additional time, but I'll be playing The Last of Us 2 before Death Stranding even hits PC.

Tbh it all sounds a bit boring and there's so much I want to play instead. The outer worlds game will be taking up my time for a while then I must finish assassins creed Odyssey.
I want to be in on the ground floor and be a part of rebuilding America and connecting everyone. Seems right up my alley to be honest! Can't wait!
I really can't decide to be honest. So I'll stay safe and wait for a sale most probably. As much as that release trailer looks awesome the more gameplay I see of this the more it looks like a walking simulator with not much going on.
@Constable_What with Trump at the helm you might just get to experiance and witness that for real 😂 . I'm not political at all but that bloke is an absolute fruit cake.
Maybe someday if I could get it on a big discount. From all the reviews I've read, I can tell it's just not really for me.
This just doesn't look fun to me. So much walking around, looks boring. Am I missing something?
@SlimDrizzyLamar I completely agree. I may not even end up liking the game in the end, but I'd much rather spend my money and time playing something like this every now and then, as opposed to just another clone of a game I've played hundreds of times. I'm pretty much just going through the motions when I start most games these days. It will be fun to be lost and a little confused with this one.
Yes yes. Orange Man very bad...
Thank you, @Scoobydrew
Very cool.
I would rather play something fun that makes sense.
Already pre-ordered, its funny people talk about Death Stranding looking boring but then mention The Outer Worlds which looks boring as hell, opinions right.
yep, 100% getting it! never seen so many cut your nose off despite your face comments roll on next Friday!
Na, I'm not getting it. I didn't like running around the empty hub maps in MGSV and this looks similar except with a lot lot less stuff to do.
I'll stick to playing The Outer Worlds with it's excellent writing, humour, characters, shooting mechanics, player choice, music, meaningful quests, easy to follow story....
Kojima and his team managed to make a game where I've seen gameplay, trailers, and now read reviews, and I still really don't know if I'll like it. The more I read, the more intrigued I am. I might end up not even liking it, but overall it sounds like something I'd really like to experience on my own.
It's a pretty strong month for games, so I won't be getting this at launch, but sometime soon for sure.
@Ralizah if some one pitched that to me as a game, I would not be the least bit interested. And that is the reason why this game does not do it for me.
I may buy it at some point but no time soon. i have had borderlands 3 sitting on my ps4 since launch and i have not loaded it up once
Have to say I preordered it because of Kojima's record. Review score came much later and did make me feel better about my choice to do so. I don't PS5 is to far away for me to think about holding off for that version. After January that will factor into every AAA game. With out details I will say no to most until PS5.
Outerworlds could be the most overrated game I have ever played, the combat/shooting mechanics is so boring, the humour is not funny at all, the artstyle/graphics look so bland, the writing is lifeless and the story is as bang average as they come.
Thank god for Kojima bringing something new and interesting to the field, I'll stick with Death Stranding.
Friday can't come soon enough for the best game of the year!
I realize it's coming to PC, but that's not until Summer 2020. I doubt I'll be playing Death Stranding then. I will be playing The Last of Us 2 when it releases May 2020 though.
They had me on "Norman Reedus'" buttox
Hardest possible pass.
Imo, if this wasn't a Kojima game, it would have come in around a 70 at best, not an 84.
This does look boring. Great graphics tho. The games with the best graphics are usually the most boring games to me. It just takes forever to realize if and when your having any fun. Walking around, shooting something, getting to the place, watching some long cutscenes, messing with your inventory, then start walking around and continue the loop. Im looking forward to Valfaris not this.
Nope, waiting for a big sale, in no hurry to play this game anymore.
Fully expected polarising opinions on it and that only makes me want to play it more. Not in a rush though, might get it around Christmas or something.
10/10 wow that's a surprise...NOT
I've still got to play the Outer Worlds but as soon as I can get through that I am absolutely playing this weirdo game.
I totally expected the media and gamers to focus on random SCORES because that's how the internet click spin works.
No, I most likely won't be buying.
Yes, the review scores are basically what I expected, as Kojima games are essentially The Emperor's New Clothes when it comes to certain sections of the media and his own fandom echo chamber.
I don't fancy playing Luggage Simulator 2019.
I am thinking this is a game that you have to experience for yourself and not just watch screen shots and gameplay video to judge. Many of the reviews are avoiding giving too many spoilers.
Definitely waiting to play this myself got it on pre-order, and everybody has an opinion as well
