Well, there it is folks. We had a feeling in the pit of our collective stomachs that Cyberpunk 2077 would be delayed, and now we have confirmation. CD Projekt Red is pushing the game back a whole five months. Originally set to release on the 16th April, it'll now launch on the 17th September. That's a hefty delay.
The Polish studio says that the game is fully playable and complete, but it'll use the additional time to tighten up the experience. Hey, at least Final Fantasy VII Remake has more room to breathe now.

Another to add to the "wait to play on PS5" list. Crazy week in gaming news!
Go back to ****ing sleep, Samurai.
Hmm i am getting suspicious with these delays. I reckon they will wait until PS5 comes out. Hope i am wrong.
WOW.
OK. There you go. Guess I won't need to cancel my preorder after all.
This is good news, because it means more sales and more attention for FF7R in April.
Well, guess I'm playing it on PS5.
Hardly surprising really, and I'm sure it will be best for the game overall. It's disappointing, though, for sure.
Surely they aren’t running scared from FF7R, are they? 😉
TBH, I don't mind this. I wasn't going to play this on vanilla PS4, so now it's closer to PS5, it means I don't have to wait too long.
I can deal with that. I just hope it doesn't end up clashing with Ghost of Tsushima.
I have no problem with this, allows this spring to breath a little.
Translated: We really dont want to release 6 days after the most anticipated remake in history😁 lol. But seriously, make it great. Plenty to play until then
So this will be relatively close to the PS5 launch then.. as excited as I am to play this, waiting on a suped up next gen version seems like an option well worth considering now!
Ok that means a big rethink for me now. It means I will more likely pre-order FF7 Remake now. And I'm thinking I might as well wait for the ps5 version now, if it is not too long after. But I'm probably not getting a PS5 at launch, so that means waiting even longer. AAAAAAGGGGH!
Good. Now April isn't as busy.
Haha you gotta love the hype for the first half of this year just plummeted. Now every major release will be crammed in the second half. First The Last of Us, Marvel Avengers, and now Cyberpunk. Theirs literally nothing but FF Remake coming in the first 6 months.
After the talk of it in the other article, I'm not shocked about the delay, but I am shocked about it being a longer one. I thought it world be pushed to June at the earliest.
At people interested in FF7, P5R and Last of Us 2 won't have to worry about their gaming schedule getting bloated, lol
I couldn't care less. My 2019 Playstation record was 20 hours on Tetris effect and another 10 between The witness and Detroit. So it seems gaming is pretty over for me : P ... until at least TLOU2 hits the road.
No point in playing it on ps4 for those of us who are planning on being day one ps5 owners. Hopefully the ps5 copy releases right away though
This one sucks.
Still, I do have Days Gone, Death Stranding, Fallen Order and AC: Odyssey part two to play so I'm sure I'll be busy.
Still, this does suck.
☹️
Wow, PS4’s first half of 2020 got destroyed in a matter of days. At least this means it should finish strong and maybe build up hype for PS5.
Early 2020 is getting less crowded - thank goodness! While I was certainly looking forward to all the great games, it was going to be a little overwhelming.
This changes the picture quite a bit.
Shiny new PS5 + copy of Cyberpunk = Merry Christmas
Weird move giving how close to the next gen it is though ties into Microsoft’s strategy which will probably mean enhanced versions for Series x
Well PS5 version it is then, no matter I still have Doom Eternal, Resident Evil 3 and Final Fantasy VII in and around than and now I'll actually have time to play them too
you know i was kind of expecting this after FFVII Remake was delayed to near 2077's release date
Good. I’m so sick of games being released in mostly-finished states, with a barrage of post-launch patches to get it up to snuff.
Doesn’t really affect me.
I was always going to play this on the PS5.
this has nothing to do with the game not being ready this stinks of MS to me CDPR & MS have been in bed together for years. I would not be surprised if the PS5 has a 1 year to 6 months or shorter wait after the X. just me being mystic meg but I would not be surprised one bit.
Well, looks like I only have TLoU2 to look forward to until fall of this year, damn.
I don’t care at all about FF7, and I’m not a RE fan.
It’s a shame for all the people looking forward to the original release date. Me personally I have no desire to play the game.
Why do game makers even bother announcing release dates anymore?
First Ubi delayed 3 games in Oct, AC, Watchdogs 3 and God's & Monsters - still not sure about any of those.
Then Squenix delays FF7R and Avengers.
Now CDPR delays Cyberpunk. And it's the only game they have.
Sure, it's not Halflife 3 but these were games WITH DATES.
How many pre-order $ are these companies rolling in? 😝
I called it yesterday on youtube comments haha. You think square would move ff7 to a week b4 cyberpunk without knowing this in advance. Its business, they are not stupid. And then they say its complete and playable but we gonna delay it 5 months. I call hogwash.
People got mad at Sony for showing games at e3 that were way out. But they complain then if they dont show release dates. Well this happens when you announce release dates way in advance. DELAYS
I'm genuinely gutted. I was all ready to kick arse as a cool looking female street kid this April but now I'll just have to settle for swinging a stupidly oversized sword around as a blonde spikey haired brat and running away from a big scary lump with a flamethrower as a tasty member of S.T.A.R.S.
Haha i like it post apostate rofl.
CONFIRMED: The game will release in 2077.
Thats cool at least they are putting things right rather then shipping a game thats not quite right yet.
It's better game company's do this. I might hold off to play this on PS5 though as that launch windows are so close together.
All these delays reassure me the importance of not focusing in new releases' hype. There're plenty of released games that I didn't play yet. It'll be cheaper and it'll give me time to get those new ones when their price drop.
So sick of this crap, yea yea but but the game will be more polished etc etc
How about stop announcing release dates until you are absolutely sure the game will be ready and polished in time ffs.
At this point just release it for the Ps5, no point buying it on ps4.
@JayDub If only everyone had an infinite supply of money to buy everything they want at launch like you clearly do...
Doesn't bother me much. There will be so many great games to play in 2020 that they can take their time. We still have FFVII in April, TLoU: Part II in May, and Ghost of Tsushima in the Summer. Those 3 should hold me over well into September.
@Ken_Kaniff TLoU: Part II was only delayed one month to May. Still well within the first six months.
@Ralizah Some breathing room. 😆
I'm fine with this. It'll be ready when it's ready. I'm sick of games releasing unfinished and getting patched. Got FF7 coming in April anyways so it's cool.
@JayDub You do realize that the vast majority of us would rather play a game we want in September 2020 then have to wait a few years to get a PS5 to get it, especially since it won't look all that much better on PS5 since it was developed with the PS4 in mind.
That's agonising, but overall it'll much better to delay it than to rush and release it with issues.
😂 ouch. Well, if it helps avoid needing the 20+ patches the Witcher 3 had during its first 12 months, that’s good news.
And yeah, I would absolutely consider sitting tight to see if it’s worth waiting for PS5 to play this now.
@Gmork___ How do you know it will release day one on PS5.
@TowaHerschel7 it looks considerably better on PC (with ray tracing), so you can expect it to look considerably better on PS5.
@BarefootBowser Could use a game or 2 extra pushed back. 😉
S.T.A.A.A.A.R.S.
Looks like my vacation to Night City is being bumped in favour of a return to Racoon City then.
I think ultimately this is a good thing. I do wonder if the game actually does need polishing, or whether the shifting release dates for FF7 and Last of Us 2 had any influence.
Either way, there is only so much money to go around, so spreading cyberpunk, ff7, resident evil, persona 5, last of us and ghost of tsushima across the year actually works out well for consumers. I also wonder if its good news for dreams that risked getting buried by all of the releases in the spring
I was looking forward to getting stuck into cyberpunk whilst on shared parental leave though. So thats a little disapointing
I saw this coming as soon as FFVII was delayed. It gave CDPR the perfect excuse.
I’m surprised by the amount of people who think the game was delayed to move away from other games. Cd Projekt isn’t going to keep paying 600 odd people to do nothing for 5 months if the game is shipable.
Play testing and bug fixing can be time consuming if you want to test for every conceivable thing a player might do in a large and complex game.
While of course a little disappointed I’m happy that they want the game to be as polished as possible and not need a massive day one patch.
I’ll still be getting at launch, not going to wait a couple of months (minimum) for a next gen version. I will just replay it when it does.
Ouch, that's a lot worse than ff7r delay. I'm still getting ps5 version so the delay doesn't concern me.
@BearsEatBeets it won’t be 600 people working on it at this point. And if they release it broken in April, the people working on it will just be working on the patches anyway. A lot of people will be working on inevitable DLC. I do think there is an element of moving it away from a busier schedule.. they don’t have a publisher to please so why not?
@DeepSpace5D Theirs still nothing but FF Remake releasing in the first 5 months. Most of these devs will regret it because the second half of the year is already busy and everyone can’t buy everything at once.
All these delays are fine by me, let's me get stuck into my backlog.
@kyleforrester87 Fair enough it probably isn't that many but it's still going to be a large amount of people and they are still accountable to their shareholders. If it had been a delay of a few weeks I might have believed it but not 5 months when I think early September will probably end up being an even busier release window(Avengers moved there, Fifa always around then, Got?).
@Ken_Kaniff Well first you said within the first six months, now you've changed it to within the first five months. TLoU: Part II is releasing in May, which is still within the first five months.
Shall we change it to within the first four months next? Then you would be correct.
@Ken_Kaniff There is plenty coming out by then. The Yakuza Remastered Collection, FFVII Remake as you already mentioned, RE3, Persona 5 Royal, and The Last of Us Part 2. Maybe none of those games interest you, which is fine, but to say nothing is releasing is just false.
@BearsEatBeets maybe, I think it’s fair to say it’ll be a little bit of everything. I mean I obviously don’t believe they will sit on a game for 5 months that’s absolutely ready to go, but obviously the decision must make commercial sense for them one way or the other and competition will factor in to that to a degree.
Welp, that gives me plenty of time for FF7 now lol.
@Enuo unless Ghost of Tsushima also gets pushed back, in which case they might as well just make it a PS5 launch game with a PS4 'downport' if they remain adamant it's coming to the current-gen system.
For what it's worth, I hope this is not the case.
That's🐂💩
P.S I can't think of more to say Push Square.
@JayDub
While I agree with most of what you said I will be getting this on PS4 PRO. Not going to buy a PS5 till late 2022. Unless they announce backwards compatibility all the way back to PS3. Then I might get it shortly after release.
As for Cyberpunk 2077 delay- no worries on my end. Went nuts in recent sales so I'm stocked with games for at least a year.
I'm crushed. I know it will make for a better game but still really sucks...
This game is going to be a launch title for one of the upcoming consoles, calling it now.
frees up space to jam RE3.!! thats ok CDPR... take your time and Polish that s***
Language please - Quintumply
@Flaming_Kaiser i dont but am just hoping it wont be a long wait
as i said from the first time i heard about this game, this will be a ps5 game.
I guess this means I have time to complete the DLC on the Witcher 3...
😭😟😢🥺
I’m well and truly gutted. Yes, there were a lot of games releasing close together, but this was the one I was looking forward to the most.
My purchases till PS5 went to none. Avengers, Cyberpunk, and Ghost were my pick ups depending on launch information. Now with them launching so close I'll wait and see and save money. Heck I have a boat load of backlist. Lastly I don't get the love for replaying RE games or possibly paying over 120 bones for FF7??
The base PS4 and Xbox versions must be appalling. Dragging the whole thing down.
Wait a bit. Port to PS5, get the proper experience. No way can a game this dense look good on this gens base consoles. CDPR have a reputation to protect, moving around at 15fps would be bad in the long run.
@kyleforrester87 A delay won't stop patches.TW3 was delayed too. 😁
@kyleforrester87 - Bandai Namco is the publisher in Europe, and Warner Interactive in the US, so that's technically at least two publishers to please!
They really should just BotW this, and make it a launch title for PS5 and XSEX., with last gen versions also being made available. Kick the new generation off with a proper bang.
@leucocyte let’s see me try and talk my way out of this twisty pickle....
i do begin to wonder how well these games will fare launching so close to the release of next-gen of consoles - i imagine by then, the launch price will be known and people might be in saving mode, or people might "wait for the inevitable PS5/XBsX version". quite a few high profile titles late in the PS3 life didn't sell anywhere near as well expected.
it's weird because most ardent gamers have been clamouring for backwards compatibility on next-gen systems so there's fewer ports and not having to buy the game again, now it's confirmed and it's often stated in comments "will wait for the PS5 version", even though it's never been announced as being in development for it.
@kyleforrester87 - come on, flip the pickle, kyle. you're not gonna regret it. the payoff is huge.
@leucocyte
It’s weak but it’s all I got
@themcnoisy Witcher 3 worked quite nice so im not worried for the PS4 version.
I may be one of the few which are on the "meh" side about cyberpunk. Just not into that dystopian future mumbo jumbo.
But I'm sure that delay will make it better.. PS clearly thinks it needs it.
@Shirayuki Outside of stutter in crookback bog.. mine worked just fine. (shrug)
I don't care. Im not getting any game that wasn't made in 2019 until I get the ps5. I have a huge backlog and anything that comes out this year will wait to the 5.
Wow. F@#$ you very much. I become a dad around August, and had been looking forward to playing this game before a new little human needed my undivided attention. Guess I can forget about that 😔
Oh man, I didn't think that the "2077" stood for the release date...
I say, power to them.
I'd much rather a solid, polished title, that could go on to become a complete classic.
And if that means a 5 months delay to ensure that it's an amazing experience, I fully support CDPR to make these calls to ensure that the game is up to scratch.
I'ts not like there isn't a lot of stuff coming up in the meantime to keep us all busy anyway.
@leucocyte In my opinion it will have zero effect.
Gamers are going to continue to game no matter whether a next gen console is coming, or not.
The only discernable problem comes to cashflow. If you're having to make those sort of decisions, that is probably the only reason you might not pick up releases so close to a next gen launch.
Especially now, since PS5 is compatible with PS4 backcatalog. Furthermore, there will be a rather large window of transfer I think with PS4 to PS5 due to the fact that Sony intends to make them cross compatible, so that people can still speak to each other no matter which console they're using, and likely play games together still on old PS4 games.
The catalogue on a brand new PS5 launch will still be quite limited, and will take a good year or so to really pick up pace.
I don’t mind delays if the extra time is spent making it a better game. No problem!
Damn! Was looking forward to it coming out a week after FFVII Remake, which is a week after RE 3 Remake... would've been a fun 3 weeks.
I’ll probably wait until it comes out on PS5 as it’ll just be a waste of money being so close.
This was and still is my most anticipated game of 2020.
But if they confirm a Next Gen version coming within Q1 of 2021 then I will likely hold out for that one as I am already getting a PS5 at launch.
And besides we still have Doom Eternal, RE3, FF7 Remake, TLOU 2, Dying Light 2, Ghost of Tsushima and many more underrated titles coming this year.
I think it will be smart to hold out to play this game at the best that a console gamer can on the next generation consoles.
I bought The Witcher 3 on the day it released and I can't remember all these bugs it had that people are going on about. Maybe I was just engrossed in enjoying the game rather than nitpicking on slight frame drops.
I am so happy for this delay because 2 months from September i will play this game on stronger spec gen. P S 5
@Ken_Kaniff
Forget that Doom Eternal, Animal Crossing NH, FF7, Dying Light 2, Dreams , Half Life Alyx and Nioh 2 come out in Q1?
Waiting for PS5 version seems like the smartest choice now, as this must be having some SERIOUS performance issues on base consoles.
I don't know whether my PS4 Slim would be affected but as I am getting a PS5 at launch regardless I might aswell just get it alongside the PS5 if it is backwards compatible with an upgrade patch or if it comes out via a PS5 fully fledged version.
Just make it a next gen and PC exclusive and be done with it, if a souped up PC can barely get over 30fps how can the OG PS4 and XB1 do any better?
Square Enix: Let's move Avengers. Cyberpunk's a big thorn in our side anyway. September sound good? Good.
days later
Square Enix: FFS
Well, April had FF7R, RE3 and Cyberpunk. I'm glad they moved, hehe. But now it's on the 'wait for PS5' list as someone else mentioned.
Everyone really could have seen this coming from months ago, especially when next gen was announced to land on holidays season.
