For a game that’s apparently quite divisive, Death Stranding sure has been scooping up plenty of awards nominations. The console exclusive Kojima Productions developed transportation simulation has topped the number of nods for the 23rd annual DICE awards, sharing the acclaim with Remedy’s third-person shooter Control.
The winners will be announced on 13th February, as part of a glitzy ceremony in Los Angeles. With regards to the nominations, other PlayStation titles such as Days Gone and Concrete Genie also secured nods in numerous categories, while cockney crime caper Blood & Truth is recognised in the immersive reality categories. Honk of the Year!?!
Funny how Resident Evil 2 is better than all of the games they have nominated for GOTY
The existence of "Untitled Goose Game" in so many categories clearly shows this is a joke.
And then some wonder why most people don't take video games journalism/awards seriously.
I adored my time with UGG but GOTY? Gaming Awards and Award Shows in general have gone down the pan MASSIVELY
Days Gone will become one of the most underrated games in history I really do think that.
After all the reviews, it made it seem like an average garbage fire of a game but it was actually one of the best experiences I had with gaming in 2019, amazing graphics and animation, great acting and characters, a very decent story with enough variety, and an amazing area to explore.
It had it's issues but every game on that list has, even RE2 (which deserves a nomination aswell)
@DonJorginho I bought it in the sale, looking forward to playing it once I'm done with Tales of Vesperia.
@MightyDemon82 It is really enjoyable, is quite a beefy game too, I was one of the first to get the Platinum (blowing my own trumpet but I have no shame haha) and even had a Twitter convo with John Garvin (was a big highlight of my year lol)
Takes about 45 hours let alone all the free content drops they added, a really classy job.
I havent finished one GotY contender yet. A Plague Tale continuing to get robbed everywhere
I don’t think I’ve played a single game on this list. Too much ESO in 2019. I’ve finally installed Fallen Order. It’s a start lol.
@DonJorginho I recently started it. I think it's a really good game.
Many people had made their minds up before even playing it imo.
The DICE awards are a developer focused award show and when you look at the nominations they seem to value new IPs and designs. So there GOTY nominations aren't that surprising in terms of new IP, unique gameplay ideas and overall impact.
I'm no fan of DMC5 but credit where it's due that game has possibly the best character animation I've ever seen in a game. The combat animations, especially the transitions between moves and weapon switch movesets are absolutely stunning.
@DonJorginho I just found Days Gone incredibly generic and boring.
@taylorsparks294 That is completely fine man, everyone can have their own opinions and no-one is 100% right or wrong.
