Uh oh, here come the delays. We've been saying for months that early 2020 is stacked and that things really kick off with Final Fantasy VII Remake on the 3rd March -- except the arrival of Cloud and the gang has now been pushed back over a month.
Yep, Square Enix has confirmed that the game's release date is now set for the 10th April, 2020.
The reason for the delay, according to Square Enix, is "to ensure we deliver a game that is in-line with our vision, and the quality that our fans who have been waiting for deserve".

April is now a bloodbath.
The Avengers moves to September too. Cyberpunk will probably have to move now as well. No way will they want to come out right after Final Fantasy.
What's the betting we get that demo on March 3rd now
This is why the demo is out on the 3rd...........as I suggested not the day the Game is released. The good news is this seem's like a proper release date my worry was Square was going to release it along with the Playstation 5.
Not sure if this is bad for Final Fantasy or for Cyberpunk?
@JohnnyShoulder Cyberpunk, FF VII Remake is a juggernaut.
This is bad news.... But better they polish it, than release it unfinished.
Avengers delayed to September. Presumably due to the delay of this.
In response to the FF7 delay. Boooooo. At least give us the demo in the mean time.
Looks like i will have sufficient time to finish DQ11 after all.
Its good news for Persona 5 The Royal ajd Resident Evil 3 i guess?
I dont think CD Projekt Red will be too bothered and think they will stick to the planned release date
Well sh*t.
Cyber Punk can wait but I had booked the day off like a child so that’s a bummer.
Ah, poor Rob. 😢
Doesn't bother me as I have enough games to play and wasn't going to buy it on day one anyway BUT I feel for everyone that was counting down the days.
@AdamNovice There's no way FFVII Remake outsells Cyberpunk, in my opinion. FFVII Remake is going to be huge, but Cyberpunk is going to be massive barring any big cock-ups.
@ShogunRok isn’t FF7 timed exclusive on PS4, too?
@ShogunRok 1 thing is certain they will both sell loads my guess is the remake will just edge it.
@ShogunRok I agree. This isn't the late 90's anymore, a new game from the makers of The Witcher 3 trumps a remake of an old game.
I'm set on playing both but unless you're a Final Fantasy fanboy then Cyberpunk is the more appealing game.
Avengers moved as well. Hmm, that's a bit of a suprise.
What can possible be done in a month...everything has looked so good about the remake. I hope there arent massive issues when it drops. SE cant manage their time and effort at all
@Rob_230 i dont see this aiding either P5 Royal or Resi 3. Honestly this could mess up all them. Ff7 has a juggernaut fan base, Cyberpunk has a huge hype train from a company that delivers, Resident Evil 3 also has a juggernaut fan base and the success of the RE2 make and Persona 5 fans are waiting for this new edition. Theres more than enough intrest but simply not enough money.
I don't know if this is good or not.
Is it good for my wallet? Hell no.
Is it good for my brain to decide what to play first? NONONO
But, I have 15 days off from April 1st.... Interesting....
For me now, unless other dates change won't be playing this until June at the earliest. Cyberpunk April, Last on Us May bang on purchases.
Bruh.
But now the demo releasing on March 3rd seems more legit following the delay. I apologize to anyone that I doubted on the demo's date lol.
Now I have more time to play March's other titles.
@Shogunrok I forgot about FVII been exclusive but Cyberpunk will still get delayed I reckon just have a clear window.
Great news, more time to polish. It will be a Good Friday indeed!
Looks like Final Fantasy VII will be bought with my monthly gaming allowance and Cyberpunk 2077 will have to wait for my birthday on the 26th.
@Col_McCafferty @Number09 I just think Cyberpunk appeals to a much broader audience. While I do think FFVII will be a big deal (and it'll sell very well), I think there's a limit to its success that Cyberpunk won't have — assuming they're both good games.
Generally speaking, any well marketed, well reviewed game with guns and mature themes is going to have a better chance at grabbing more casual gamers. Final Fantasy VII might mean a lot to you and me, but people who didn't play the original and don't keep up with gaming in general look at it and see anime pretty boys with big swords.
Again, FFVII is going to be big, but Cyberpunk has the potential to go nuclear.
@AdamNovice Agreed. Could definitely see a delay happening now that FFVII Remake is so close.
@GamingFan4Lyf Where do you live? I could always pick you up a copy on the PS Store if you wanted man if money is tough?
@ShogunRok That's what I was thinking too.
I know FFVII's popular but its lifetime sales I believe is only 11 million units sold compared to TW3's 20 million. That and people love CD Projekt.
*Got those numbers from Wikipedia so I'm not sure how accurate they are.
On the bright side, this frees up more time to play Nioh 2.
(If I don’t look on the bright side I’m going to start crying.)
Well Cyberpunk it is!
@DonJorginho I appreciate the offer - that is very generous, but money isn't tough at all. Thankfully my wife and I are very fortunate. Since you asked, I am in North America.
The missus and I set up personal monthly spending limits for ourselves (I just call it my "gaming budget" since I don't really want/need anything else). Since buying both games is outside of that limit, I will opt to buy one and ask for the other for my birthday.
OOF. Isn't Resi 3 on the 3rd as well? Damn. It's FF7 all the way for me though either way.
For a FF7 fan, the remake will generally trump Cyberpunk. But for anyone else Cyberpunk is likely to take priority. And as well loved as FF7 is, the fans are pretty vocal and don't make up the majority. Combined with being PS4 only versus Cyberpunk being PS4/XB and PC... Yeah, CP will do the numbers.
FF7 is gunna be way better though
Squenix delayed a game after announcing what appeared to be a solid release date?
Still have time for Cyberpunk to announce a delay I suppose. Avengers already have. Delay is the word.
Poor God & Monsters, first game to delay itself then everyone else followed.
https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2019/10/ubisoft_delays_a_trio_of_its_biggest_titles_past_april_2020
Not surprising at all.because i believe the demo is in March.so it makes sense that the demo is ahead one month in due time.so its understandable at this point.word up son
Remake of my favourite game is now out on my birthday. It was meant to be
@GamingFan4Lyf Ah well I am glad you are doing well man, just thought I would give someone a free copy and you were the first person I thought I could give it to, not to worry though and ah that is a clever way of planning it out, you two have got things sussed for sure!
This absolutely ruined my day.
@Nyne11Tyme yep this is typical square
Not a problem for me, I already preordered ff7r on amazon, and I'm not interested in playing ps4 version of cyberpunk 2077 since I'm waiting for ps5 version.
This just went from Day One to wait for sale. Cyberpunk will take up all my gaming time.
Crap. Guess I'm playing Cyberpunk in May.
@ShogunRok You are right your point about Casual gamers is spot on that and the fact it is not a Playstation 4 exclusive gives Cyberpunk 2077 the upper hand.
There is no way I'm getting this now as it is far too close to cyberpunk. Will have to wait till after TLOU 2 and maybe GoT.
So in the space of around 4 weeks I'm getting Doom Eternal, Resident Evil 3, Final Fantasy VII and Cyberpunk 2077 😲 with Persona 5 Royal inbetween somewhere too. So basically all of my most anticipated games pretty much at the same time
Damn.
Might be canceling my Cyberpunk preorder, then. We'll see. I'm really looking forward to both., but FF7R is on another level of hype for me.
@ShogunRok Since Sony has a 1yr exclusivity deal for FF7 Remake does that mean its multi platform release has to be pushed back too so Sony actually get a full 12 months? I've always wondered how these deal factor in delays.
@WanderingBullet
I'm sure CP will do better than FFVIIR, but the numbers are a bit misleading. Keep in mind that fewer people used to game back then and that even those who did, didn't actually buy ps1 (or ps2) games, due to piracy. In the country I grew up, I didn't know a single person who bought games for their ps1. Everyone had a modded ps1.
@Bahamut-Zero i mean FF13 dev hell, 14 trash on release, 15 dev hell, KH3 dev hell. SE is the most successful trainwreck ever. Still some of my greatest gaming experiences in my life have been square. Not so much SE. But Chrono Trigger, Cross and FF7 and 9 are some of my favs.
Well that sucks i just preordered this last night.
Usually I get a little annoyed by delays but this is possibly the most important remake of all-time and SE has to get it right. If the dev team needs more time, the delay has to happen and given the track record of recent SE RPGs, I still don't know if that will be enough. This a game I'm interested in and very nervous about at the same time.
They better bloody not delay Cyberpunk 2077!! 😡 I really can’t wait for this game any longer!! I know I’m in the minority but I’m not hyped for FFVII at all - I couldn’t into the game the first time round, and - graphics aside - I can’t see that changing.
@naruball Makes sense.
@3Above Like @WillMerfi has said, I assume it will. The agreement Sony likely has with Square Enix is a 12 month deal — I wouldn't think that the date actually matters.
@ShogunRok @willmerfi Thanks! Makes sense.
Edit: Square Enix seems to be the only major publisher who still does these sort of deals. World of FF, Octopath Traveler, Rise of the Tomb Raider.
SUMMUHMUHBITCH!!
There is a lot of chatter about Cyberpunk 2077, and how it will negatively impact the FF7R. Folks, the original Final Fantasy VII is arguably the greatest RPG ever, and Final Fantasy owns the RPG genre, which Cyberpunk 2077 is in. While the delay is frustrating, Cyberpunk 2077 should be thinking about a delay, because its sales will be (negatively) impacted by FF7R's new release date.
Give up the demo and we'll just forget about the delay to April
Getting both anyway so fine I gueeeesssss...it's just the extended wait that obviously sucks.
I'm still all for polishing things up though.
C'ya Cloud. V is in the house.
These are the two must have games for me this year, so still getting them both, but FF7R is my favorite game ever so probably will go through that first. Probably the shorter of the two as well.
Cyberpunk first for me!!
@ShogunRok Maybe you should do a poll asking if people will be playing cyberpunk or FF first.
@Ralizah see, based on The Witcher, Cyberpunk will probably benefit from several patches, so hanging on for a while could be a good idea.
@FellSorcerer I do agree, CPs sales will be hit by FF7. That’s not to say I think it’ll do worse than FF7, because I don’t, but inevitably some people will buy FF7 and stick CP on hold.
Seems stupid for everyone to be cramming releases so close together really. People only have so much time.
Ahh ffs, sick of these delays.
I'm cool with this. It gives me a bit of time to dig into Nioh 2 before hand so things are a little more spaced out for me at least.
Even if I end up enjoying the FF VII demo it will have to wait now. Cyberpunk will keep me going until TLOU2 so it will probably be quite a while until I maybe get it.
Doom eternal, Cyberpunk 2077, The Last of us part 2, and Ghost of Tsushima...that’s my next 4 big game purchases for the first half of 2019. Sorry, no room for FFVII.
I've got my pre order paid off, so it's just a matter of the wait for me. Still rough, since I'm interested in both games. It doesn't help Persona 5 Royal comes out right at the end of March.
Personally I think both games will be fine sales wise. They're both RPGs, but a different style of them. It basically boils down to whether you like Western or Eastern RPGs. They both have their distinctive enough fanbases in order to sell well.
@kyleforrester87 Based on FFXV, FFVII will benefit from patches too lol
Cyberpunk gets my vote but I was originally going to get both at launch since they were a month apart. Now I'll pick up FFVII down the road.
@AyanamiReign yeah I did think that, but it looks pretty solid in the demos and it’s made on Unreal and not the same weird engine 15 was so... hopefully it’ll be ok!
Cyberpunk can wait. I wasn't going to get it at launch anyway after all the glitches I had in TW3 near launch. I enjoyed it a lot more when I wasn't seeing Vesimir float along with his invisible horse, or seeing quests break for no reason, or my character fall through the floor into an endless black void, and seeing dead bodies spawn inside the NPC I'm talking to*... Don't get me wrong, I played it again about a year or two after launch, on PC this time, and TW3 is an incredible game. It was just a rough ride at launch - and the 20fps in certain parts on base PS4 didn't help either.
Though this is really annoying. I'm playing the original VII at the moment but now I'll finish way before Remake comes out. I guess I could also play Dirge of Cerberus... Is this what it's come to?
New IP Cyberpunk 2077 vs FF 7 remake that is a no brainer for me.
CYBERPUNK 2077!
@777Reigns Not a bad idea! Might put something together closer to April. If there are no more delays, that is...
@Matroska I'm concerned that Cyberpunk will struggle on the base consoles, glitches, framerate etc. The FF7 remake is made bespoke for the ps4.
It's an obvious choice. FF7 remake at release, Cyberpunk further down the line.
@WanderingBullet Dont forget it was a PS1 exclusive for a long time.
April is packed!
Who needs money anyway. My daughter can eat in June.
I didnt have the time for the Witcher so i have no special feeling towards Cyberpunk. Final Fantasy 7R though i waited 2 decades for that. So Cyberpunk will stay in the wrap or i will wait for a complete edition.
Oh well, final fantasy remake can wait, cyberpunk is hands down the game that I want more than any other this year. As much as I loved ff7 I don't have the same buzz for the remake as many do.
To be honest Cyberpunk 2077, may only outsell Final Fantasy VII Remake. Due to Final Fantasy VII being a timed exclusive for a year, but even still a lot of people are hyped for the Final Fantasy VII Remake. But seeing as Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be a multi plat/console game that is going to help its overall sales more.
@ShogunRok I look at it this way, Cyberpunk is going to be huge. As will Final Fantasy VII Remake, specially since it’s going to appeal to fans of the original. And that it’s going to bring in new fans, specially those that love anime. And not to mention that it’s a J-action RPG, so it’s going to do well over in Japan. Cyberpunk is going to more than likely edge Final Fantasy VII Remake in sales, due to Final Fantasy VII Remake being a timed exclusive at launch whereas Cyberpunk is going to multi plat/console. But I don’t think either game will threaten the others sales, I see both selling very well. I’m just leaning toward Final Fantasy VII Remake to play more, because the original was and still is one of my all time favorite games.
Cyberpunk for me (I've already paid for my preorder in full), I'll be waiting for all the episodes to release before purchasing FFVII R. Just hope CP doesn't get delayed now 🤞🏻
@Nyne11Tyme with a minimum of 800hrs per dev working on the polish a lot can be achieved in a month
@ShogunRok I guess you don't have to do the poll now...lol
@777Reigns Haha sadly not.
