Sony PlayStation E3 2020

Sony and PlayStation will not attend E3 2020, the company has confirmed to GamesIndustry. The annual convention, which will take place this summer, has been the biggest event in gaming for decades -- but there's no question that its influence has waned over recent years. Indeed, you may recall that Sony skipped the show in 2019 as well, while other heavy hitters, such as Nintendo and EA, have slowly but surely distanced themselves from the event.

With the PlayStation 5 set to launch in late 2020, many believed that Sony would use E3 as an opportunity to spread the word. But as it happens, the Japanese giant just doesn't seem to think that E3 is worth its time.

A direct quote from Sony says it all: "We have great respect for the ESA [the organisation behind E3] as an organisation, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year. We will build upon our global events strategy in 2020 by participating in hundreds of consumer events across the globe. Our focus is on making sure fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have access to play their favourite content. We have a fantastic line up of titles coming to PlayStation 4, and with the upcoming launch of PlayStation 5, we are truly looking forward to a year of celebration with our fans."

Sony's still got its lips sealed shut when it comes to planning the PS5's big reveal, then, but it sounds like the firm knows what it's doing. Now that we're sure PlayStation won't be at E3, anything could happen.
